The Wheel was sold to an amusement park in Mississippi where it ran
until the park closed. I was made aware of the Wheel being for sale by
a guy from Colorado who tracked it down as a hobby.

I started a publicity campaign to get get someone to buy it and bring
it back to NJ. A letter arrived from a NJ Realtor expressing interest.
I brought him a video tape of the Wheel and met him in Asbury Park.

The plan was to purchase the Wheel and leverage that to become the
developer of the Palace. He also bought the Carousel and brought them
both back to NJ.

Long story short - Palace Bankruptcy - Legitimate Developers - New
Council - Weldon/Fishman Deal - Save Tillie Deal - Palace
demolished... etc.

Anyway, the parts are in Tinton Falls. The owner is Bill Sitar of
Sitar Realty. He subsequently developed Cookman Ave.

He would not be here if not for me and the Palace (Schnitzler) Wheel.

Thanks Werner. Still would like to see them displayed again somewhere. All
my old Guido neighborhood friends used to love to see their hometown names
spinning in the sky.

If there is a Sanity Clause, we'll have at least one Ferris Wheel and one
Carousel by next season. grin

I don't think thats correct. As I recall the Casino Carousel left town
first shortly after the area was declared a redevelopment area. (early
80s) There was a dispute with the City over ownership and it was
removed one weekend by the operator. Ended up in Myrtle Beach.

OK correction. I was recalling when the original carved figures were
removed and sold in the early 80s. It then operated with fiberglass
replacements until 1990. Then to Myrtle Beach. (Note: it was removed
one weekend, sort of like the Palace being demolished one early morning)

I don't remember carousels going out of vogue. All I know is, one
day, the carousels were SOLD! GONE, KAPUT! Don't know which regime
decided that, but it was back in the mid 80's. I was raising kids. 2
were in college, with three bringing up the rear! What a city!

Just what are the powers that be planning to put into the Casino
carousel house (now that they have it all gated up)? A farmer's market?
A petting zoo?

That's where the farmers market was to be located, but apparently it still
isn't ready and
hasn't received approvals yet.
In my opinion, the Carousel Farmers Market, located in the Casino walkway, has
been a huge
letdown so far.
Plus, the city is advertising the one on main on the city ad board, with no
mention of the Carousel location.
