I asked about the insurance issues a month ago and received no

Finally, McKee says, it was determined that the deed governing the

I can't talk about that right now, he said. There are some legal

It's the old, Catch 22! Damned if you do, damned if you don't! If
you ever want to discourage and beat someone down, this is the way, to
do it! Frank, I know where your heart is, Can this be resolved? Why
does the little league have to pay to change an ordinance? How long
has that field, been there? Someone broke the rules, a long time ago!

Asbury Park Little League Runs Into More Obstacles by Board

 By TOM CARDINALE

The ongoing renovations at the Asbury Park Little League field at
Asbury Park High School have run into some new obstacles, according to
 Little League president Danny McKee.

I've been working on this for two years and everyone was aware,
McKee said. The school board voted that we could go ahead.

McKee says, after meeting with school board member Frank D'Alessandro
and the district's Assistant Business Administrator Michael Steinmetz
on Mon., Nov. 12 he was told to move forward with the completion of
the project. The lighting structures were en route from Iowa and set
to be delivered on Nov. 15, he says, when he received a call on Nov.
14 from Aiman Mahmoud, the district's Head Business Administrator,
advising him that he would not be able to move forward with the project.

Mr. Mahmoud called on Wednesday and said `Stop everything' and I
couldn't even store the lights at the field, McKee said.

McKee said he believes Mahmoud, who has been a supporter of the
project, was acting on instructions from someone from the board.

They're always coming up with more hoops for me to jump through,
 McKee said.

The latest issue, according to McKee, is that the board wants a soil
test done on the field to ensure the sandy soil can support the
lighting structures. However, McKee says that the electrical companies
 - Lucas Electric and Musko Lighting - have constructed similar
lighting towers in far sandier locations.

They've installed lights at the bay where they had to wait for the
tide to go out to do it, McKee said.

McKee says Lucas was aware of the sandy soil throughout the project
and has planned ahead for it. He also said he looked into getting a
soil test but discovered that it costs nearly $10,000, a cost that
would be impossible for the league to afford.

If I had $10,000 I'd do the soil test, he said, but I'm on a
 shoestring as it is.

McKee says he hopes to convince the board that the lighting will be
safe and secure using testimony from Lucas Electric.

Lucas Electric; it warms me how they've handled it, they're storing
the lights until it gets resolved, McKee said.

The board, according to McKee, has also asked for information from the
Little League. Information sought includes bank statements, how much
money is in escrow and who will have a key to the field-house. The
 board also asked about insurance.

Acting School Superintendent James Parham declined to comment on the
 situation.

I can't talk about that right now, he said. There are some legal
issues that need to be addressed.

McKee says his only choice at this point is to try his best to fulfill
 their requirements.

I could hire an attorney but then what? he said. If I have to hire
an attorney that's where I get off.

The only reason I haven't given up is because if I do this project
will never get done, he said, and everyone who read about it will
say same old s— different day in Asbury Park.

I am assured that no obstacles were placed in their way by the City.
Agree, there may be two sides to the story but Danny has done a lot
and many of us have donated to make this happen. Is it a real
insurance issue of the lights posing a danger or a red herring? Unless
the powers that be speak up we won't know. Speculation and uncertainty
are not a good thing.

Hi Sharon and Group,
Speaking strictly for myself, I'm with Danny McKee on this one.
Our law firm (I voted against them) has spent so much money fighting
the Little League (they say they are trying to protect us). There
are some on board, and they are sincere and good people, who are a lot
more cautious than I. But the Board continues to say yes, yes, yes
and the lawyers say No, no, no. Instead of using the time and money
on productive things, this is what they do, and now the state monitors
have gotten into the act. It is a miracle that anything gets
accomplished. Even though Danny has already gotten the necessary
permits from the city, collected tens of thousands of dollars, and
spent countless, uncompensated hours with some of the other parents,
he is confronted with new and bigger obstacles at every turn. I'm
hoping that there will be some folks at the next BOE meeting (it's at
6:30 at the Bradley Elem. School on 3rd Ave. this coming Wednesday)
who will show their support for Danny and the Little League and voice
their concerns and displeasure. My yelling at the lawyers seems to
have no effect, I'm sorry to say.
   Frank

==geez, I was almmost ready to say it.

I up now, because my son decided to rollover in a go-cart and broke a
wrist on on hand and chewed up a finger on another and we are to be
leaving in a few hrs to Flso it's 3am and I jsut got back from the
hospital and he'll be ok. Another lesson in his daredevil days.

As far the Little League goes I don't know if I can help with the soil
test, but I'm gonna make some calls to a few engineers I know and see
if I can get anything out of them. I've worked with a few larger
companies - not sure if I'm it'll work, but I'll try.

don't forget to tell the BOE that the league will go on with or
without the lights - on that field. Then
