Generating Unit Named in Honor of Former Utility VP
KISSIMMEE , Fla. , April 5, 2007 – The Kissimmee Utility Authority board of
directors on Wednesday paid tribute to its former vice president of power
supply, Abani K. “Ben” Sharma, by naming the first generating unit at its Cane
Island Power Park in his honor.

Sharma retired from KUA on March 31 after 17 years of service.

"Ben Sharma’s contributions to KUA have been numerous, important and enduring,"
said KUA president and general manager Jim Welsh. "This is a lasting way for us
to recognize his leadership and a fitting tribute to his many years of service
to our utility."

Sharma, 67, spent much of his career in Florida and Georgia , serving as an
electrical engineer for Southern Engineering Company of Georgia and planning
superintendent for the city of Tallahassee ’s electric department before
joining KUA in 1989.

Sharma directed the design and construction of the $263 million Cane Island
Power Park and held responsibility for its operation and maintenance.

The Ben Sharma Unit 1 is a 40-megawatt simple cycle turbine generator
manufactured by General Electric. The unit began commercial operation on
January 1, 1995.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida 's sixth largest community-owned
utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents
in five Central Florida counties.

What is 'leju'? A rope or the tail of a snake?

Re: [Assam] outrage

2005-08-26 Thread Ajoy Hazarika

Hi Chandan:

I missed this whole thing somehow.  Looks like this yellow-bellied scumbag of a person is extremely jealous of Jugal's status in Assam Net and Assam, which Jugal and his friends earned with tremendous hard work and dedication to Assam, Assamese people and culture and Assam Net.  And they did all these for free.  Deepankar, Jugal and others are at it for over a decade now.  I also know from my own experience the nature of Jugal who always goes out of his way to help somebody in need.  Over the years the people noticed.  But this scumbag thinks that he deserves all that attention.  What he do so far?  Does anybody know?  So what he would do?  Go out and harm Jugal as much as possible.  I may not agree with Jugal all the time, but that did not affect my admiration towards Jugal.  I do not agree with you a whole lot, I do not agree with lots of netters a whole lot, that does not mean I should go out and try all
kinds of unscrupulous methods to bring the net down.  If I do that to you today, tomorrow someone is going to do the exact same thing to me.  Then what.  We know very well that "Bhatere mora-w mora aru matere mora-w mora".  So this skunk (with due apologies to our skunk friends in the woods), tried to do both by harming Jugal's livelihood and in the process choke Assam Net to death.

But you know, there may be a good side to it.  We took this Assam Net for granted.  We did not realize how few of you guys/gals are keeping the fire under the cooking pot in Assam Net "Sangmai Xal" to keep the rest of bhwjkhw-a raiz well fed.  However, people like this skunk made us realize how precious this Assam Net and the netters are.  Khalil Gibran in a story described how a priest tried to save Satan from almost mortal wound, because Satan convinced him that without Satan, God would be irrelevant.  In this case I have to agree with Satan.  That is the only good thing I could think about this poisonous dirt.  But we should keep fighting to keep these yellow-bellied scumbags at bay nevertheless.

As far as publishing ULFA's opinions and letters in Assam Net, I cannot complain.  It is a free forum.  It does not matter whether I agree with ULFA or not.  At least Jugal and his friends kept it that way to their immense credit.  This net even allowed another scumbag (same scumbag?) to publish lots derogatory comments about Jugal.  So why should we complain?  We did not even pay a dime to keep this net going.

Anyway IMHO Freedom of _expression_ is a double edged sword.  We should be aware of that.  But it is beautiful all the same.

I missed the whole thing.  DD is too much of a gentleman and described the situation in a very mild way.

Well, sorry about the delayed response.  So, lead the way in this kind of fight, I am with you guys/gals.

Have a very nice weekend, all of you.

Regards

Hi Utpal:

I salute you and Mridul for speaking out. We may not always agree, but in spite of disagreements over this and that, or details here and there, we do have those abiding bonds that brought us together to begin with. And Assam Net is the first and only such forum, where we from Assam, have an ability to examine issues of mutual interest, free from the shackles of either tradition bound taboos or governmental/authoritarian obstructions.

We know exactly what arnabdeka's gripes are:

He was a rabid opponent of Assam net letting ULFA post its newsletters.
There were many others too who opposed that. We had a sustained and lively set of debates. You might find them interesting. Let me know if you want to see them. I have a few in my hard disk somewhere, even though not all. But the fact is that not even our most articulate and informed opponents could make an ordinarily persuasive case -- other than Indian Govt's. 'ban' -- against  ULFA. But Assam Net does not go by Indian Govt's. rules and restrictions -- thank goodness :-). That is how it stands out far and above the rest.

But if that was such a heinous move on Assamnet's part, all these pseudo-patriots could have walked out single file like the MP's on any given day of the week in Delhi's Lok Sabha. They were not shackled to assamnet. They were not misled into assamnet with promises of remaining subservient to Indian Govt. edicts. They did not pay any fees for the services of assamnet with promises of a slave-like adherence to  misrule in Assam, Assamese or Indian. Their attraction is the common bonds, and hopefully, stimulating, even if politically unpalatable to some :-), discussions.

But these opponents did not walk out. They were able to weigh, judge, which is more important to them. They stayed. They participate offering differing viewpoints. And they helped Assam Net grow. This coward too remained after that. But later he disappeared, if only under his real identity.

Slime-bag arnabdeka's other big gripe was none other than yours truly and a couple of other netters. Having repeatedly failed to make p
