Re: [Assam] Delhi IGI airport

2011-01-09 Thread Alpana B. Sarangapani

Thanks C'da.

And thanks also for your constructive critique about the airport. I didn't get
to try the food court or get to go to the parking garage, the taxi driver
hurriedly left us at the airport (btw, we talked a lot about things with all of
them, ate at regular dhaba's with the driver that took us around at Delhi, that
he was so happy that he wanted us to bring him here to work as a chauffeur - he
would be about Nitin's age, a great fella, but we had to convince him that
without paper-work we could do nothing, and that we don't have a business to
sponsor him, but could help when his daughter or son would grow up to attend
college).

One of my disappointments was, inspite of my OCI card, I was considered a
"foreign national / NRI" and had to pay Rs. 750 to enter to see the Tajmahal.
Unfortunately, I did not carry the card that day, so did have to pay that
amount, or else, would have flushed my card that says that am still an Indian
citizen with the Govt. of India seal on their faces.

More later...

2011-01-08 Thread Chan Mahanta
Welcome back A. Glad to hear you had a good trip. So did I. Arunachal, Namdapha
area to be precise, was spectacular.

I agree with your assessment of Delhi airport. It looked good. Services were
too. I liked the food court a lot, although it is pricey for locals.
Bathrooms were clean. No hassles from officials. Announcers are understandable
and the loudspeakers clear. Taxis are easy to get, safe
and the old nightmares of getting in and out of the airport has finally ended.
The parking garage was not suffocating. One thing I noticed
that is not something most will, was the very bad choice of colors of the
carpeting, mix of yellows, oranges and light browns. They will
get soiled in no time at all. That was the architect or the interior designer's
fault :-).

I just hope the maintenance of the facilities, the usual weak link, continues.
I was concerned by broken and un-repaired drywall already, in six months
between March and November.

Now if Dilli can clean up its air a tad bit, everyone could breathe a lot
easier :-).

[Assam] Delhi IGI airport

2011-01-07 Thread Alpana B. Sarangapani

The new IGI airport in Delhi they've built. is stunningly beautiful. and the
service? yes, that is also great! There was no line to wait on, in fact, they
called us to the counter - right away - what an experience! ! It can be said
that the overall standard of Delhi airport is one of the 1st class airports of
the world now. The shops are ample in numbers and items and also are
beautifully decorated with color and light. The whole airport is splendidly
furnished that includes beautiful live plants and decorative items with very
good taste.

The bathroom scenario is good as well, the ones in airline lounge (at least the
one that I travelled with) are maintained well - and yes, they are very clean
and dry.

I am just happy and was very impressed and see a brighter future.
I read some article about reducing the poverty level in Brazil and Mexico,
specifically, will send the link when I find an electronic copy.

It was a successful trip, we feel we've "achieved" a lot in fulfilling our
dream of making someone else's life a little better - with one step at a time.
We also did some sightseeing for ourselves. Overall, it was a hectic but a good
trip.

It's great to be back home though!

BTW, C'da: Ahem! how did you find the Delhi airport? :-)
