Can Niloy Gogoi help with answers to these questions please?:

(a) What place in Assam and on what date Lachit was born?
(b) What place in Assam and on what date Lachit had died?
(c) Saraighat battle ended with a treaty, was it signed by Atan
Burhagohain?
(d) On what date Atan Burhagohain was executed and for what reason(s)?

Referring to Himendra's email

Surya Kumar Bhuyan did not answer above questions, or please direct me
to right pages' numbers.

Referring to Manoj Das's email
see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/assamonline/message/4837

Why Manoj calls 'Sarcastical' to a valid question is probably because he
does not have editing/reviewing experiences :)
It is not uncommon to ask for review comment to a knowledgeable person.
It's up to Sanjoy to respond to the question, i.e., not Manoj,
but I welcome Manoj to answers the above questions.

And regarding his appeal for respect:
Shouldn't we respect everybody irrespective of age?

Dear Manoj,

I read your parody on our ICON, and it is truly hilarious. I translated it to
a Polish colleague of mine with the context, and he laughed a lot too ...

Now coming back to serious matter, are you guys in sync with planning
commission or Assam government? In my last conversation with our CM in 2007, he
specifically mentioned about expanding Guwahati towards Mirza.

In Kamrup, Bhatta Dev, Hari Dev, and Damodar Dev had a lot of positive
influence in spreading Vaishnava culture. Bhatta Dev was the first person in
North Bengal and Northeastern region who started writing in prose. There are
other people like Banikanta Kakati who are true hero's in this region. I will
follow up with you privately.

Dear Dhiraj,

This bridge is necessary for the Northward expansion of the city, which is now
cramped; and ultimate conversion of Guwahati into a metropolis with a
population of say, 15 millions by 2050. The mighty river will be able to
provide the water and the breathing space. The funds will come from ADB and
Govt. of Assam's savings. The city will bring prosperity to the North side and
open up opportunities, jobs, market, infrastructure projects etc. It will be an
8-lane bridge. Also we'll need a fortress city to preserve our culture, in case
the Bangladeshis overran us completely.

Naming ultimately doesnot add much value, if some regular brands like Rajiv
Gandhi, Indira, Nehru are used. Aton, Bhagadatta, Narakasura, Chilarai (I am
not in favor of him as his brother already got the Pancharanta bridge) will
excite the ignorant minds to know about these illustriouscharacters and dig
them out of history.

About our icon, I found an apt parody :)

Manoj,

Is this bridge necessary? How is this project be funded? If the funding comes
from government, can we think about a better way to utilize this public money
so that it can create jobs for poor people with a minimal or no education?

I have said multiple times. Naming a road or a bridge after Atan Buragohain
or someone else is not going to uplift Assamese people.

I agree with you on an ICON mentioned in this email thread. He had to be
carried from street multiple times after he was drunk.

:
Lachit Borphukan is representing greater Assamese community ; not Ahom
alone as Mahatma Gandhi is representing India not Gujrati alone.
:

Theme is not Lachit and Gandhi, but Atan Burhagohain and Chakradhwaj Singha!

Himendra is using Lachit like a 'promotional/marketing code' in order to
sell his ideas of marble statue of his Swargadev Chakradhwaj Singha, and Atan
Buragohain Sako.

There must be reasons why Himendra Manoj et al or other members are not
answering following questions including Dibya :)

(a) What place in Assam and on what date Lachit was born?
(b) What place in Assam and on what date Lachit had died?
(c) Saraighat battle ended with a treaty, was it signed by Atan Burhagohain?
(d) On what date Atan Burhagohain was executed and for what reason(s)?

If you place Lachit's statue in some places you will only insult the brave
soul.

And let's do not compare Gandhi with any Ahom-administrators, including
those during past 3 decades (Ahom - of or related to Ahom kingdom).

As before, see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/assamonline/message/4822

No *Ahom names* should be chosen to name/rename projects roads villages
towns etc in greater Kamrup under all circumstances. It is not right to do
so. By doing so, it will *only demonstrate Ahom-bulling*, not
Assamese-bravery.

Just like in *California *where all roads bridges projects etc names have
been Spanish (including the brand-new or under construction) -- those in
greater Kamrup should be all *Kamrupi including Baro Rabha Saranya etc*.

:
expecting one great Warriar to evolved from the Greater Kamrup to lead
Assam in our next war against Bangladeshi jehadis (possibly within 2050)
and protect us from the Bangladeshi butchers. Then our next generation will
gracefully construct one Mighty Bridge over Brahmaputra in his / her
honour.
:

It is good to have dreams!

[Let's slow down on Extreme Righteous Assamese (ERA) syndrome. Let's try to
look at scenarios of population-segments' using Geographical Indications --
in order to better understand which population-segment is doing what]

During past 3 decades, the administrations that running Assam Govt have been
Ahom-admins.

If these admins would have been *serving India Constitution* there would
have been no scenarios of the sort now we see in Assam.

Even if Ahom-admins' start serving India Constitution from now on 'possibly
within 2050' scenarios (as Dibya expects) will never happen.

Do you want to let trouble come because you want next generation will
gracefully construct one Mighty Bridge over Brahmaputra in his / her honour?
Or do you want Ahom-admins start *serving India Constitution*?

From greater Kamrup all the ethnic Kamrupi Assamese together can not send
enough MLAs anymore owing to Ahom-admins' protocol-centric 'new Ahom
Assamese' rapid population growth tactic in greater Kamrup.

So Assam Govt is all set to go with Ahom-admins 'possibly until 2050' or
earlier!

Ikons get made onwards their journey, no one except himself made Sachin

COMMON brand of all the people?

Bhupen Hazarika or Zubeen .. is a brand of their own talent; doesn't mean
everyone in Assam is a great vocal singer; so doesn't it mean everyone in Assam
is a terrorist.

State of Assam has its own brands like Assam Tea, One honrned Rhino etc. but
these are brands that represent the state not people.

Nor is it a good idea to lable everyone with one brand.

Every individual creates his own brand.

For any community to progress there have to be a few role models for the youth
to follow.

In todays Assam there seems to be a dearth of such role models. Lachit
Barphukan,Lakshminath Bezbaruah,Jyotiprasad,Bishnu Rabha belong to previous
generations-heroes no doubt but not flesh and blood to whom todays generation
can relate to.

Perhaps Bhupen Hazarika is the only living legend of Assam to whom todays
Assamese youth can look up to.

Bengal has its Ganguly,Amartya Sen,Bipasha Basu and so on.Maharashtra has
Sachin,Gavaskar and so on.The gujratis have their Ambanis,Modi-the super
CM,Irfan and Yusuf-the cricketer brothers.

Sadly India's north-east seems to be lacking in such icons.Let the community
nurture and promote talent in a big way-encourage every good effort and result
acheived by our citizens.

The media plays a very big role in creating and sustaining a positive image.
Schools, colleges and guardians have to play a major role in creating the right
environment for leaders to grow.

2009-01-23 Thread hthakur
Dear Dibya,

Thank you for appreciating the SAKO. However, it will never be a ropeway. A
bridge (or for that matter any structure) should NOT foul up the environment
and the ambience of the space :

People feel their bridge in its entire environment. It may be necessary to
regain the natural environment of the site by relocating some old British
administrative buildings that ruined the riverbank. I urge the artists and
architects and bridge engineers of Assam to imagine a graceful bridge with
“poetry in its geometry” as a permanent and constant reminder of what we
achieved in the past. Atan Buragohain Sako” is not for crossing a river. It
will take us across three centuries of Time to fill our heart with hope, glory,
self-confidence, self-sacrifice and a strong dete rmination.

I most earnestly urge the artists and architects and bridge engineers of Assam
to come up with a timeless composition. Your ideas of inviting young people to
come up with model --- to hold a model competition --- are excellent. I hope
these ideas will gain momentum.
With love to all,
Himendra
PS: By the way, with some help from friends, I found the article in my computer
and I am now attaching it. I hope someone will write a poem about Swargadev
Chakradhwajsingha --- the King who discovered Lachit --- and imagine with me

a west facing marble statue of Swargadev Chakradhwaj Singha to replace the
existing pillar on the rock of Urvashi. When seen from the steps of Kacharighat
in Guwahati on a clear afternoon, this pure white statue, lighted by a setting
sun, will shine bright against the deep green background of Umananda.

BTW how Bangladeshi extremist organizations got the courage to impose what
