Re: [Assp-test] Logs not rolling

2015-12-29 Thread Thomas Eckardt
Scott, is any other task scheduled for 00:00:00 (or before)?
For example BlockReport, maillog file cleanup, rebuildspamdb - these tasks
are touching the maillogs.

There are several tasks hourly scheduled. If such a hourly schedule falls
at 00:00:00 an additionaly delay of 15 seconds is added - the
midnight-tasks will start at 00:00:15.
How ever, there could be other tasks scheduled for this time frame by the
configuration.

I ask, because your log shows

Dec-20-15 00:00:01 [Worker_1] Worker_1 finished reloading configuration
Dec-20-15 00:00:01 [Worker_1] Worker_1 will sleep now

- the workers got a request to reload the configuration at midnight. There
must be a reason for that.

Scott, have a look in to the log for the time frame before midnight.
Possibly set 'MaintenanceLog' to the highest level.

Thomas

There are no virus scanners installed on this server (including Windows
Defender), other than ClamAV, which is not configured to do realtime
file scanning, and is used only by ASSP. There are no backup tasks
running at midnight. I should mention that this problem only started a
few months ago, and the only thing that has changed on this server in
the past year has been regular ASSP upgrades.

Or, even better, exclude the whole ASSP folder from AV checks; as
you know, Thomas, ASSP may (and probably will) store "phish" and other
nasty stuff (including viruses if configured to do so) to use them for

2015-12-28 Thread Thomas Eckardt
The only reason I can see for this is a online filesystem virus scanner
(defender, MSE, ), that is locking the just closed maillog.txt.
Define a scan exception rule for the 'assp/logs' folder.

Thomas, any idea what else I could be looking for to cause this? It's
been going on for quite a while now, my logs roll over successfully only
once or twice a week.

Scott, check that a possibly installed online filesystem virusscanner
ignores the log folder.

I've noticed lately that my logs are not rolling - I will often have
logs containing 3, sometimes 4 days of logs. This is something new. I
have no other applications (backup, etc) accessing the log files, but
ASSP is having difficulty rolling the log file - perhaps because it is
writing to the file? Here is what I see:
