James,
You bring up an issue that was discussed at Devcon. We, as a community,
need to step up and provide this kind of documentation, best practices, and
examples so people can use Asterisk (and in this case PJSIP) properly and
with confidence.

If we want people to use it, we need to show them how to do it in a
supported and stable way.

[asterisk-dev] Epcot trip before DevCon

2017-08-31 Thread Eric Klein
Sending this as a reminder, there are still some seats available on the
Monday shuttle

-- Original message --

After the success of our previous Orlando Astricon Road Trip to NASA in
there has been some request about my organizing another for this year.

I have worked out via the hotel transportation to and from Epcot from the
hotel, and depending on responses we can even do it twice: Monday before
(Oct 2) and Friday (Oct 6) after Astricon.

There are 25 spaces on the shuttle, and I will be signing people up on a
first come first serve basis.

Discount Tickets can be purchased at the hotel concierge, and should be
purchased in advance.

Prices (with tax) are dependant on the day

Monday Oct 2nd are $117
FridayOct 6h are $125

Nir and I will be going on the Monday, so I will be looking for someone to
coordinate on the Friday

Please email your request for a seat on the shuttle to
eric+ep...@greenfield.tech

See you in Orlando

[asterisk-dev] In case you did not see it Devcon registration is up

2017-06-27 Thread Eric Klein
In case anyone missed this:

AstriDevCon is an annual event, held alongside AstriCon
 - it includes
an in-depth review of progress made in the past year and an open discussion
about the future direction of the project. The event is free and open for
any active Asterisk community developer to apply for attendance. It's a
great opportunity to meet the core development team in person, pitch ideas
for new features and functions and coordinate efforts with others.

Capacity for this event is limited. Preference will be made for those who
are active and participating in the Asterisk development community by
contributing, reviewing, testing and so forth. Otherwise it's first come
first serve, so apply for registration soon.

2016-10-05 Thread Eric Klein
Having worked in IETF working groups, I have to say that this is a move in
the right direction.

The questions of how will groups be created, defined, and when will
conclusion be declared (if the group does not petter out) still need to be
defined. But there are cases that are good examples.

So count me in too.

Re: [asterisk-dev] Viva Chan_Sip, may it rest in peace

2016-10-05 Thread Eric Klein
James,

You missed a few points:
1. There needs to be a move in the training materials, and DCAP exam away
from (the soon to be depriciated) version 11 and move into versions that
support PJSip - familiarity will breed use.

2. One suggestion to do this was to declare that Chan_Sip would be
depreciated in version 15 or 16. This would not mean removing it from the
code, but that going forward (for 1 or 2 more releases) it would only get
security fixes and no more development. This would have the benefit
of everyone would have 3-5 years to learn and transition to PJSip without
breaking anything that is currently working, while releasing development
staff to improving the interface and problems with PJSip and other parts of
Asterisk.

[asterisk-dev] [asterisk-users] VoIP monitoring tools

2016-09-27 Thread Eric Klein
While I agree with Nitesh that Nagios has some great monitoring tools, I
would recommend that you use Icinga 2 rather than Nagios with those
plugins,

Icinga has a bit more flexibility and better structure after it was forked
from Nagios.

We are using it to monitor everything from server status (CPU, hard disk,
processes, etc.), connectivity (ping, dropped packets, etc)
and Asterisk processes (number of calls, channels, etc.).

 Hi All,

I am cross posting this to the Asterisk Users, Biz, and Dev lists at the
suggestion of David Duffet, so sorry if you see it multiple times.

As this year Astricon is in Orlando, and most of us are tech geeks in on
form or another, we are trying to organize a road trip to see NASA's
 Kennedy Space Center.

I have been in touch with their group sales office and was told that there
is a minimum requirements for a group rate to cover the general admission
would be 15 guests at $45.50+6.5% tax per person, plus we would either need
a lot of cars or to rent a bus (thus the per person price would go up).

What they say about the tour:

Private guided bus tour 2.5 hours

The Explore KSC Tour gives visitors an insider?s view of the space program
from the launch sites of today at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, with a
look toward the future of space exploration at Kennedy Space Center, The
tour includes up-close views of the launch pads, the Vehicle Assembly
Building (VAB) and the Shuttle Landing Facility. The tour stops in between
the Kennedy Space Center launch pads, offering a close-up photo
opportunity, in front of the VAB, on the NASA Causeway where guests are
surrounded by myriad rocket launch pads. Along the way, visitors may see
other iconic images of America?s space program including the countdown
clock at the Press site, a crawler transporter used to move Apollo moon
rockets and space shuttles to the launch pad and the Operations and
checkout building were astronauts departed from to travel to the launch pad
on the day of their mission. The tour culminates at the Apollo/Saturn V
 Center,
The Apollo/Saturn V Center, where dramatic multimedia shows and numerous
hands-on displays provide visitors with an inspirational and exhilarating
look into America?s quests for the moon. Guests relive the historic launch
of Apollo 8 at the Firing Room Theater, then marvel at a monstrous 363?
long Saturn V moon Rocket, the most powerful rocket ever build and one of
only 3 Saturn V rockets in Existence, The Apollo Treasure Gallery showcases
treasures from the Apollo moon missions, including Apollo 14 Commander Alan
Shepard?s spacesuit and the Apollo 14 Command Module, Kitty Hawk.

Up to 50 guests for a private bus.
Booking times will vary, we will do our very best to accommodate your
 guests
 General admissions required

So please let me know if you are interested, as we get closer we will
discuss total price and how people can pay it.

Looking forward to seeing you in Orlando in October.
