RE: [Asterisk-Users] Wireless LANs and Asterisk

2005-02-10 Thread Kelly Griffin
We are a wireless ISP running Asterisk as an IVR in our office. Our office
is connected via wireless to our Internet gateway some 4 miles away. I have
had 4 calls going at once without and static or dropped packets.

We have deployed normal VoIP services to our customers that are a minimum of
2 wireless hops away from the gateway with little or no problems.

Wireless bridges should not interfere with each other as long as they can
hear each other.

Has anyone had any experience with wireless LANs and Asterisk?

We have and here are my impressions.

We configured an Asterisk in the office as a precaution to see how it
would work for our own retail customers. Our office is open space, about
800 sq ft. (20x40 area). We use Snom200 and Grandstream SIP phones.

Using the latest Linksys wireless access point (WAP54g) and 3 wireless
bridges (WET54g), I have found that it works most of the time with WPA
encryption on, but will occasionally drop voice (loosing packets). With
no encryption on the WLAN it seems to work without a hitch! Using a less
CPU intense encryption such as 64bit WEP, things also work fine. There
must be too much delay with higher rate encryption.

Also we had one bridge that seemed to be a week puppy in the litter. It
could only muster 60-70% signal strength. It seemed to have problems
under all configurations. Finally we positioned it such that it too
works well running WEP 64b. I wonder if having 3 wireless bridges in
close proximity would have anything to do with the signal strength? I
would doubt it though.

Anyone else with other experiences to share regarding wireless LANs and
encryption? I'd me interested to hear them.

Thanks,
Mike Meyer

I went to the Mantis site yesterday and attempted to do a search on sip

Some people are not looking for the easy way out. Some people just need a
helping hand. If reading newbie questions stresses you out, maybe you
shouldn't read them.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] ASTCC Application

2005-02-04 Thread Kelly Griffin

You must have routes and trunks setup for
this to work properly. If you enter 479-464-8998 and you do not have a
route for 1 or 1479, then it does not know where to send the call. Make
sure your have your VoIP trunks and calling routes configured properly.

Hi,
I am quite new to asterisk so I am not sure what is needed to figure
out this problem. If more information is needed and not provided I
will gladly provide it.

I have a very basic asterisk setup. 1 x100p card and a grandstream
handytone 286. I can make calls fine to most phone numbers from the
handytone device the trouble seems to come when I dial this number
591-1079. It puts me through to the local 911 dispatch. Causing the
police to show up at my doorstep and check to make sure everything is
alright.

I can see why I think; 5 911 079. But I don't understand why it is
being handled this way. Can somebody offer me some guidance on how to
get this to stop?

TIA

Does anyone have any experience with iax.cc/sixtel?
Are they a legitimate company? From their website
it looks like you can get a private incoming 800
number for 30 cents/month plus 2 cents/minute.
Somehow that pricing seems a little cheap for a
DID number. I assume there has to be some minimum
usage or something. Any info as far as actual costs
and/or voice quality would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jon.

Hello

This might not be a 'pure' * question, but it is relevant to general VOIP
technology.
I tried x-lite on my notebook with wireless connection(802.11). The software
has been tested with the fixed line connection. It worked fine to call
through *. When using wireless connection, it is clear on my side using
notebook; however, there is loud noise on the other side of the call which
uses IPphone. It seems to me that some interference noise comes into the
upstream. Does anyone notice the same problem? or have explanation of the
cause?

exten = s,1,Answer

whatever the CID of this FXO port is as in

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Booting * from CF

Just remember that CF cards have a limited life as far as read/write cycles
are concerned. Transcend says that their CF can handle 1,000,000
program/erase cycles before failure. I think, in practical experience, that
this is way high. My experience is between 50K and 200K.

That being the case, and CF cards being bigger and cheaper every month,
does anyone have an experience building a server that simply boots from

It really depends on what you want to do, are you thinking of storing

[Asterisk-Users] Calling Card question

2004-12-28 Thread kelly . griffin
I am new to the list, so if this question is redundant, please point me in the
right direction for reading.

I want to setup some calling cards for fundraising. I have ASTCC installed and
working, but I am wondering how things might work once in production.

A customer calls an 800 number (sixTel) and then dials Mexico (voipjet). This
all stays IP and doesn't tie up phone lines. I've done it and understand it.

A customer calls in on PSTN and then calls Mexico (voipjet). My PSTN is tied up
until they disconnect, right?

I am wondering how to minimize costs for an 800 number (.02 per minute) and LD
charges (VoIP). Is there some magic I am missing?
