You know, if I thought that it wouldn't be a bandwidth hog, I'd happily
host voip-info out of my Data Center leased cabinet, but whoa-nellie! I
think we know how popular that site is, hence why it can be a
slow-loader at times. It would cost me a $FORTUNE$ with the price I pay
per MB!

I wonder if voip-info would let anyone 'snake' the site for backup? Who

IMAP vs. Exchange

I would be very weary of using IMAP against an Exchange Server. I have
not touch it for years but IMAP and Exchange did not play together
really well back then.

Has anyone actually used real IMAP to talk to an Exchange server from a
Linux client lately?

If your Linux client can play nice then IMAP with exchange might work.

The trick is getting Exchange to talk to you if you are not a MAPI
client.

Just some thoughts, if you can get it to work that would be great and I
think people would buy it.

Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Voicemail and MS Exchange Synchronization

We have a customer considering migrating from a large Nortel
 PBX with a
third-party voicemail system to Asterisk but one of the features they
really like is the automatic synchronization of voicemail between
Exchange and their voicemail system -- delete a message from the
voicemail system and it is deleted from their email inbox and
 vice versa.

Searching has not revealed anything like this being developed for
Asterisk and yet it would appear to be a critical component needed to
migrate customers used to fully integrated Unified
 Messaging systems
 to Asterisk.

 (a) Has anyone cracked this nut (or started on it)?

 (b) Anyone interested if we post a bounty?

From my perspective, not sure I would want Exchange (Which is difficult
enough to manage) to be cluttered up with potentially large voicemail
files,
I would have thought that most Exchange clients are most likely to be
Outlook based, who could use pst Imap (Or pop3 if asterisk could auto
forward and then delete voice mail) to retrieve voicemail via email
without
having to worry about central Exchange issues. Might be my lack of
knowledge
but this would appear to be able to be written as a mapi outlook add in
that
could update Asterisk to purge voice mail at the same time the user
deletes
the local copy? Based on the assumption on Imap? I would support a
bounty
either way that offered this feature.

I have seen the posts about difficulty getting the SIP firmware for
Cisco
phones in recent months, and I'd like to chime in with a beg for help.

I know it can be a real pain in the butt getting hold of the
firmware,
so any help in obtaining it relatively fast and painlessly would be
  much appreciated.

... I noticed that these two files are floating around on the
Gnutella
 network

I have to admit I am too quite frustrated with how very difficult it is
to
buy a service contract to get the SIP firmware upgrades. However, I
don't
want to have to commit copyright infringement just for my company to do
some tests to see if we want to use the Cisco phones!

I bought one to try and compare the Polycom's and see if it fits our
needs. I have yet to get the Cisco working because no one seems to want
to sell me the SIP firmware upgrades!

I have talked to many vendors, including CDW, and they tell me that only
US Federal Government and international customers can order that
well-known part number on voip-info.org (CON-SNT-CP79[46]0). I am happy
to pay for the full USA service contract to get the SIP upgrade, but NO
ONE WILL SELL IT TO ME! They all say they just don't have one,
including
CDW. Cisco told me to go find a vendor, but couldn't provide me with a
list!

If anyone can suggest a vendor who will sell the right contract to get
the
SIP firmware upgrades legitimately in the USA, I'd much appreciate it.
If
someone has had some success recently, I'd be happy to take that info,
confirm that it's correct, and put it up on voip-info to save someone
else
the trouble.

I have a feeling the Cisco phones might suit my company's needs better
than the Polycom phones, but we may end up going with Polycom simply
because Cisco made it TOO HARD for us to test out their phones!

Does anyone know of a good-quality (Vonage, Net2Phone, etc) service that
would partner with us to resell and support residential customers for our

Ideas or suggestions? We are also willing to partner (i.e. to meet monthly

to do this if the opportunity presents itself.

For those of you buying smart net support contracts, just because you
can download the software does not mean you are licensed for it. If you
have a cisco phone with a sccp image on it, it is most likley licensed
with that image. You would need to buy a license for SIP from cisco in
order to legally run the SIP image on that phone.

If you are unsure about what license your phone has, contact TAC, they
can tell you as each phone has a unique mac address.

VoIP in the EU hasn't been completely sorted centrally (i.e. by the EU
parliament), last time they looked at it a few years ago it wasn't
perceived to be entranched enough to worry about, I suspect this will
change soon.

In the UK Oftel put out a guide, which says if you're running VoIP
services (i.e. back-end services, so maybe a SIP proxy/registration
server or interconnection with the PSTN) you are a Communications
Service Provider and covered by the same regulations as a traditional
voice provider.

Since the Communications Act came into force there are no such things as
licenses per se. The Communications Act specifies 21 obligations that
a Communications Service Provider operating as a Telephony Provider must
abide by.

I haven't got the document to hand, but could make it available if
people want. It does cover lifeline/emergency services etc.

Maybe we can setup a time to talk sometime this coming week and see if

Can anyone recommend a provider to work with that works with managed

We have many happy wholesale and retail customers that simply
do not care to opine in this thread. I have been reassured
of this fact by the massive number direct responses I have
 received on this subject.

BTW, we can port any number in any state that we can provide
DIDs in, as long as your number block is portable.
