RE: [Asterisk-Users] Busy Lamp Field SIP Phone

2005-07-24 Thread Thomas Christie

This may not be the answer you're looking for ... but why
not whip up a little program or web application for the operator's PC that shows
the extension, name, busy status, new voice-mail count, etc? Or you could
have it done by a consultant. In the long run, it will probably be less
hassle, cheaper, and much more functional than what you're
considering.

And as luck would have it, I'm a consultant programmer
...

Field SIP Phone

Does anyone have a recommendation
for a good SIP phone with a busy lamp field? I need my operator to be able to
see extension status for about 20 extensions and transfer via HOLD + extension
button. Ive got a pair of SNOM 360s with the sidecar, but Im very disappointed
with them. The buttons are cheap and rubbery like a Sipura 841, the handset cord
is short and cheap, the audio quality is not good, the speaker is bad, the
button layout is too busy, and Ive found it very hard to train my users how to
use.

Has anyone else had the same
experience with the 360s? Im ready to replace them with anything. I put Polycom
501s in for everyone else and they are wonderful.

Does the Cisco 7960 + 7914 work well
for such an application? Keep in mind it has to show free/busy status of 20
although I guess we could get by with 14 if the 7960 + 7914 is a solid option.
Im in Louisville,
KY if anyone knows of a distributor
or retailer that I could demo a unit from.

Thanks

I thought there would already be one or eight hundred of them out there
already. I was joking about doing the work for ... Um ... What's-his-name
(no offense, your email is already deleted).

Have you used this one or others?

What's your opinion of this gentleman using this application instead of a
hardware solution?

My two (s)cents...

* Anything from New Kids on The Block.

* Put the pop-hook guitar riff from the Friends theme on repeat.

* The Happy Flowers (http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/MrHCIHF/ ,
http://www.mp3.com/happy-flowers/artists/9826/summary.html ) have a song
called Mom, I Gave the Cat Some Acid.

* If you can get the song from this flash animation converted to MP3, then
it might be good (bad):

* Just do a web search for Industrial Sound Collage. I'm sure you'll find
something appropriate.

* I have a Barney-themed sound collage I created that I might be willing
to share.

Hope this helps (hinders?) your business.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] T1 - incomplete calls

2005-07-21 Thread Thomas Christie

Incomplete meaning "never connected" or "connected then
disconnected abruptly?" Are the calls inbound or outbound? All calls
or just some calls? If just some, about what percentage are problem
calls?

Try setting Switchtype = 5ess, 4ess, etc. Let me know
what you notice, if anything is different.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] new to Asterisk, is it possible to call two external lines and connect them using twochannels

2005-07-20 Thread Thomas Christie
Rob,
It seems you're okay with your company incurring the cost of the call(s).

If I understand your goal, you might be able to do a flash-hook-transfer to
the second line. This will only use one extension from your asterisk to
your PBX and when you release the line to complete the transfer, that
extension is freed up -- the connection is maintained inside the PBX for the
remainder of the call. (Of course, the connection to the PBX will have to
be an analog line OR a digital trunk that can mimic the flash-hook
capability of an analog line.)

I'm afraid that you're going to have to incur the cost of the call if you
are calling both parties then bridging the call. Otherwise, there would be
no-one to bill. Besides, your box is going to be the one doing the
bridging.

  Hi All,
I am just looking at using Asterisk now and the first thing I need to
do is via pass two external numbers to asterisk and call out
connecting the calls togther. These will be through our physical PBX
connected to the asterisk server. We are essentially trying to connect
two external numbers through asterisk with us incurring the cost of
 the calls.

I've been reading on call out files and the manager API. I can see
how to call an external number and bridge it to an extension. Do I
have to run an application on that extension to then dial the second
external number and then they both connect?

 Many Thanks in advance guys
