Hi Tom,

something similar has happened to me with Cisco ATA186 and a Cisco Switch
module, with the ATA equipment that "disappears" every minute... ;(

I've solved the problem setting explicitely speed & duplex type in switch port
configuration.
By default configuration it was in "auto". After setting 100Mb/full_duplex the
problem has vanished and everithing is going well...

Cheers

Tom,

Sounds like you're loosing your DHCP registration. Could this be the case?

Unfortunately, I think you're right. It's a good thing you only have to reboot the phones for config and firmware changes.

enable dot1p priority tagging on the voice VLAN. I am not sure if the
Dell switch you are using has a similar feature, if it does check there.

Also, how have you troubleshot this problem so far, does it happen on
every switch you've tried? Is it happening on every CP-7960G you've

Make sure that the port is configured for a PC and not a hub.I don't have a 7960 to check this on, but I know that there is a wayto set the behavior of that port. Methinks it is near the end of theoptions under "Network Settings."

edit the SIP.cnf

network_port2_type = Hub/Switch

(Optional) Configures the device type that is connected to port 2 of
the phone.

Valid values are Hub/Switch and PC. Default is Hub/Switch.
Note If the value is PC, port 2 can be connected only to a PC. If you
are not sure about the connection, use the Hub/Switch default value.
Specifying the PC option and then connecting port 2 to a switch results
in spanning-tree loops and network confusion.
