Flames about GXP-2000 poor quality are frequent on this mailing list. I recently setup 80 of these (and I'm waiting for other 30...) to move whole company from a legacy Alcatel PBX to an Asterisk-only solution. At first, I tried some chinese phones (AtCom) and they were a disaster. Then I tried Grandstream phones and it was a real jump: users now are happy, I had only one RMA, quality and stability are good and I'm able to focus myself on improving Asterisk features. Mind you, looking at the earlier firmwares, the phones look like they have got a lot better and it is the only phone I know where you can download the source to the firmware. It's basically a case of, for less than half the price of a GXP 2000 it feels solid, it isn't as fully featured (things like no headset port, and no backlight on the generally clear but lower resolution display, you need to pay a bit more for a PoE version and/or a version with 2 network ports). I personally think they are well worth the money, although that's mainly because it's such a small amount. ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- Asterisk-Users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
Re: [Asterisk-Users] Re: GXP-2000 (steer clear)
I read all the stories and did the homework, but one client wanted under 100/phone. I explained the issues and we went ahead. I have had not one problem with 18 units purchased from VOIPsupply. They sound very good via handset. Can't comment on the speaker phone quality. For the money, they are good phones in my opinion. Re: [Asterisk-Users] Re: GXP-2000 (steer clear)
So far, pretty much every firmware upgrade has been an improvement in one way or another. They're running 1.1.0.13 now which seems to be fairly stable. They still get brief moments of echo, but usually only when the handset volume is up pretty high. I think it'sa hardware problem where the handset microphone is actually picking up the handset speaker audio when it gets real loud. If you do get these phones, I would make it very clear to your customers that this is a very inexpensive phone, aka CHEAP. So don't be surprised if you have some problems every once in a while. But they do have some great features that you only find in more expensive phones and some features even the big boys don't have. They especially work well remotely, extremely nat friendly... which I cannot say for the Cisco's or Polycom's.
