Re: [asterisk-users] Shared line appearance phones?

2008-05-15 Thread Brian McManus
I hate to bring up an old thread, however, I'm implementing SLA as well.

I've got SLA working, my tunk executes slatrunk(line1), and my polycom 650
phone rings on the SIP subscribed line (button 1)

I'm assuming slatrunk sends the calls to the SIP/station1 SIP device, so
the call will always appear on button 1 on the end device?

My question then is how does the receptionist or answering party know which
line this came in on so they can, for example, overhead page and say Fred,
you have a call on line 1?

My next observation is on the execution of slatrunk() the call quits
ringing, so the calling party gets dead air. Is that normal?

I believe the call coming in on button 1 is hear to stay, part of the
'trickery' but if their is an easy way to know which line that call is from
that would help, and secondly if slatrunk played a ringing tone till it saw
a station join the bridge that could help.

And perhaps I have everything misconfigured as well :)

Thank you for all the asterisky things you do!

Brian

The docs as far as I can tell are not correct. E.g. Zaptel is required
(because it seems that it uses MeetMe) but none of that is documented.

So yes please do see if you can make the feature work and please post
a working example config for a Polycom phone.

Could someone please add to the documentation that Zaptel is required

You could fix the doc yourself and send a patch. That's more likely to
get attention than just a please fix bla.

Well we need a light on the phone to blink when a call is on hold, but we
want to pick it up from any phone, so its a BLF key/light tied to it. Maybe
you can intergrate that with ques, I guess I need to look into that more,
just have never heard of that being done!

Thanks for the suggestion, Ill take a look.

I have successfully used the SLA applications in Asterisk with Polycom, Aastra,

on how many buttons you want and how much you're willing to pay, the others may

Yes, Asterisk 1.4. Also, it has been a while since I've used this code with
something other than a Polycom phone, but it should be ok.

The way it is implemented in Asterisk is a bit interesting. It uses the
existing device state support (hints, BLF) to manage the buttons for shared
lines. Asterisk changes the state of these virtual shared lines to different
states, and the light on the phone reflects the state (in use, ringing, on

So, in theory, any SIP phone that supports SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY to monitor the state
of an extension in Asterisk, it should work with the SLA applications.

'the next sip draft'? There are probably 150+ IETF drafts circulating
regarding SIP functionality... is there a particular one you are
referring to? I'm not aware of any effort to update/replace RFC3261, and
shared line appearance wouldn't belong there anyway.

Is there an implementation for shared line support in asterisk? I know
that with hint I can watch line status... I just want to be able to
pick up on an extension when ringing or jumping in on a call by punching

You are confusing shared line appearance with shared extension
appearance. It is possible today to watch an extension's status and use
the key on the phone to either call that extension (if it is not in use)
or pick up a ringing call at that extension. With some creative dialplan
programming it may also be possible to force any call that extension is
involved in into a MeetMe and then join it... thereby joining the call.
This is all 'shared extension appearance' stuff.

Shared Line Appearance is much more complex to implement, but we are
very seriously considering doing it in the near future, since there is
so much demand. Keep in mind that you will _never_ be able to fully
simulate a key system using Asterisk unless you seriously dumb down the
Asterisk features that don't make sense for a key system... but we can
at least get this part functional. Stay tuned :-)

Pick up a ringing call at that extension? I can see how you would do
the rest of the things you mentioned, but how would you pick up a
ringing call going to that extension?

That would be great to see.

[Asterisk-Users] Shared Line Appearance

2006-01-26 Thread Sean Cook
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Ok... I am having a serious brain fart this evening. IIRC, the next sip
draft addresses shared lines and I thought I remembered something on the
list about support for it in the near future.

I also thought that chan_sccp supported it with in asterisk. Am I
loosing it here?

Is there an implementation for shared line support in asterisk? I know
that with hint I can watch line status... I just want to be able to
pick up on an extension when ringing or jumping in on a call by punching
the line.

Suggestions?

No support as of yet for shared lines.

[Asterisk-Users] shared line-appearance

2003-07-23 Thread Steve Creel
shared line-appearance: a visual indication on one phone that another
phone is in use, such as a lighted button.

I understand that SIP does not support a shared line appearance.

I understand that MGCP as a protocol does support shared line appearances
in its Business Phone Package (rfc3149), but that chan_mgcp does not
support the Business package, and thus does not support shared line
appearances.

I understand that if I want it bad enough, I need to extend chan_mgcp to
support it.

The phone systems I am replacing all offer this feature, and users are
used to it (Not to mention that any feature you take away instantly
becomes their most valued feature that they _need_ to do their job).

My question: How are others working without this? We have many instances
where an assistant is to answer incoming calls and put them on hold until
the supervisor has an opportunity to take the call (to keep the supervisor
from putting their current call on hold to answer the second call and put
it on hold). I can only assume that this situation comes up for other
people as well.

I considered using queues, but then the supervisor is not aware of the
number of calls waiting for them.

I think I have to look at mgcp, but was curious as to what others are
doing.

Many thanks,

Steve
