[Asterisk-Users] simpletelecom.com??? are they a SCAM?

2005-02-19 Thread Madhawa
Hi List!
any body use www.simpletelecom.com?
I subscribe to www.simpletelecom.com for A-Z termination and paid
US$15.00 and US$70.00 via credit card in two days, but my account has
US$15.00 only. I checked my credit card from the bank and they said me
the payment already paid to merchant.
I've lost US$70.00 :(

so anyone here has experience with them? are they a SCAM?
Thanks!

What is it with all the IS THIS A SCAM?! emails lately? I'm almost
starting to wonder if its a single entity with some ulterior motive.
Anyways, conspiracy theories aside.

I've been using simpletelecom for long distance calls for probably
nearly a year now. I've never had a problem with them except that I've
not been able to figure out how to pass my caller-ID string when
placing calls. For example, when I call Kitchener, ON, the number that
it breaks out from appears in a list of payphone numbers for a popular
phreaking magazine. That certainly has boggled me for quite some time.
The calls do complete though, and this is just for personal use, so
I've never really made a big fuss of it. Although if someone knows
how to pass callerID through simpletelecom I'd love to hear it.

Also anyone who says their bank told them the money is gone on a
credit card purchase has to have something wrong with them - just
dispute the charges and problem solved.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] simpletelecom.com??? are they a SCAM?

2005-02-19 Thread C F
I have been using simpletelecom.com for over 2 months now to make
outboudn long distance calls, I didn't have any problems what so ever
with them.
To send callerid this is how I do it:
exten = 81NXXNXX,1,SetCallerID(MY NAME 1235551234)
exten = 81NXXNXX,2,Dial(SIP/${SIMPLETELE}/${EXTEN:1},60,tr)
exten = 81NXXNXX,3,Congestion
Caller ID will be passed like this, however in most cases the name is
not passed along but looked up in an SS7 database against the number
passed along and that name is displayed, meaning you can't have your
name changed.

I don't know - they look kinda lame. I mean, why is their SIP server
seemingly better-routed than their IAX server? In my case, their IAX server
is almost 20ms further away than the SIP one -- seems odd to me.

Think I'll stick with Nufone - very well routed, and only ~15ms away. :)
