The configuration parser can do a lot of things. Out of curiosity
amongst those reading this - how many of you know about templates?

Love templates. Use them in extensions.conf, sip.conf, and iax.conf every
day.

Here's an example from extensions.conf:

[party-line](digit-timeout,h,i,max-timeout,pound-main,s)
same = n,   agi(write-cdr)
same = n,   background(${PROMPTS-PATH}/0116)
...

Where the templates look like:

[digit-timeout](!)
exten = t,1,goto(${CONTEXT},s,1)
[h](!)
exten = h,1,goto(finish-call,h,1)
[i](!)
exten = i,1,goto(${CONTEXT},s,1)
[max-timeout](!)
exten = T,1,goto(max-time,s,1)
[pound-main](!)
exten = #,1,goto(main-menu,s,1)
[s](!)
exten = s,1,verbose(1,[${EXTEN}@${CONTEXT}!${ANI}])

Note that the 's' template has to be the last template specified in the
template list. Also, that '${EXTEN}@${CONTEXT}' makes for a quick
cut-n-paste into the 'dialplan show' CLI command.

[asterisk-users] FYI: Block Comments

2014-08-24 Thread Brian LaVallee

Hello,

Here's a fun issue that recently caused me some serious heartache.
Hope this helps others from making the same mistake.

Did you know that the configuration parser supports block-comments.
Like an idiot, I've been highlighting text between dashes.

[example]
; -- Most of my comments were single-line like this --
exten = _1X.,1,NoOp(This would load fine)
;
;-- I did not even use
block-comments like
this one in my config
file --;
;
exten = _2X.,1,NoOp(Loads OK)
;
;-- But look! -- I missed a space between the semi-colon and two dashes --
exten = _3X.,1,NoOp(This would NOT load)
; -- The parser stopped loading anything past the above mistake --
; -- Missing that space started a block-comment - Arghhh! --
exten = _4X.,1,NoOp(This would NOT load either)
; -end

Guess I have to change my highlight syntax, avoiding dashes in the future.

Sincerely,
Brian LaVallee

from freepbx.com:

There have been some inquiries over the last few weeks along with some
additional news that has come out concerning the direction of FreePBX v3 and
the lack of activity in SVN.

Rest assured that the intensive work that has gone into this project is live
and well but will be continuing under a new project name.

When we set off with the development of v3 we wanted to rewrite a system
from ground up and that is exactly how the project was executed. Darren
(pyte) was and has been the chief architect of v3 from the beginning. In an
attempt to make sure v3 could flourish with maximum creativity and not
necessarily be hampered with any baggage from v2, the projects were run
fairly independently though they shared this same website.

The fact that they were both under the same FreePBX umbrella started to
create a bit of confusion in places like the Forums and IRC channel. There
was also often concern that v2 development, which supports an installed base
of probably 500K systems, would be slowed because of v3. Given that v3 has
been a rewrite from ground up there was also concern by some when its
feature set in the early betas was a subset in many ways of what AMP 1.0
had 5.5 years ago.

It became clear that the best thing that could be done for both projects was
to spin v3 off into its own identitty thus allowing both FreePBX and the new
rewrite to flourish and serve the community in the best possible way. The
new project, still run by Darren, is named 2600hz
Projecthttp://www.2600hz.org/ and
will be the new home to allow v3 to flourish, while FreePBX (v2) continues
to evolve and serve the large installed base that it enjoys today.

We will be cleaning up the current web site over the next week to reflect
these directions and are excited as always for all the great work that is
being done in this place and by all the contributors that help us make such
a great project!

Asterisk work does not pay all of my bills, so I have joined up with a
company that has a very good payment plan.

I have recently become a Mona Vie Independent Distributor.

I am not going to go into a sales pitch.
This is just an FYI to this opportunity.

The company has grown into a Billion dollar company in just 2 years.
This company's compensation plan is the best and quickest that I have seen.
My brother-in-law has only been in the business for a month and is already
 making a profit.

The first thing that I noticed when researching the opportunity, was that I
could find no negative statements about it.

The product itself has many health benefits.

 So far:
 My knees no longer ache.
We are both sleeping better. I literally do not stir once asleep.
My restless leg syndrome has not been noticed.
I seem to have more energy.

The main ingredient is the acai berry.

Here is a list of what it is supposed to do:
 Boosts energy levels
 Improves digestive function
 Improves mental clarity/focus
 Promotes sound sleep
 Provides all vital vitamins
 Contains several important minerals
Is an extremely powerful free radical fighter
Acai has very high levels of fibers
Cleanses and Detoxifies the body of infectious toxins
 Strengthens your immune system
 Enhances sexual desire and performance
 Fights cancerous cells
 Slows down the aging process
 Promotes healthier and younger-looking skin
 Alleviates diabetes
 Normalizes and regulates cholesterol levels
 Helps maintain healthy heart function
 Minimizes inflammation
 Improves circulation
 Prevents artherosclerosis
 Enhances visual acuity

The income can be made in two ways (actually more, but two primary ways)
 1. Reselling the product at a marked up price. This is something that I
have no interest in, and do not personally know anyone doing this.
 2. Team Commissions.
 a. You make back 5 percent of the sales that occur below you in your
 tree.
 b. You only have to personally sign 2 people. Other people above you
will be adding to your tree.
 c. They call it a binary system, where you only have 2 people directly
under you, and any other people that you add go down to the bottom and
benefit others as well as yourself.
 d. I already have two people underneath me and have not personally
signed anyone yet, so it is a quick growing tree, even for people that may
 not be as motivated.
 e. After a month, My brother-in-law has NO more out of pocket expenses
to stay in this system. The money he is earning is paying for his Minimum
 requirements. The rest is profit.

To sign up to be a distributor , which is required to make money, is $54
A case of Mona Vie is $120.
A case will last 2 people a month. (you only take 2 ounces a day)

This may seem like a lot, but:
 1. You will not need to buy any vitamins.
 2. My brother-in-law is already making $200 a month, after being in the
system for a month, So his cost for the Mona Vie is covered and he is making
 $80 a month.
 3. As more people sign up, the amount he gets back will increase.

Anyway, I am not intending this to be pushy or salesy, I just wanted to let
my associates, that may be looking for additional income, know about this.

Here is the Website, if you are interested in researching this:
 http://teamvie.blogspot.com/
 http://www.monavie.com
Also, feel free to Google it.

I am very excited with this, both in the health benefits I am already seeing,
 and the income potential.

Please feel free to let me know if this is something that you may be
interested in, and I can get you more information.

wow, this stuff is awesome! it's the best thing EVER! it's like the
much awaited asterisk for windows! it has fiber! fiber, people, fiber!
And it Detoxifies the body of infectious toxins! not just any
toxins, infectious toxins!

somehow i get the feeling that asterisk is going to be paying less of
the bills after this.

You know, there are people who sell VOIP services this way, by
charging ridiculous prices for ATA's (i've seen $150 and up) and
having price plans that are not very attractive, but giving great
incentives to sign up as independent agents or things like that -
well over the like from multi-level marketing (which is not so kosher
to begin with) and into a pyramid scheme. Those kind of things make
the whole industry look bad.

This, on the other hand, only makes the OP look bad, so i guess that's better.

dollar company in just 2 years.
This company's compensation plan is the best
and quickest that I have seen.
My brother-in-law has only been in the
business for a month and is already making a profit.

 The first thing that I
noticed when researching the opportunity, was that I could find no negative
 statements about it.

The product itself has many health benefits.

 So
 far:
 My knees no longer ache.
We are both sleeping better. I literally do
 not stir once asleep.
My restless leg syndrome has not been noticed.
 I seem
 to have more energy.

The main ingredient is the acai berry.

 Here is a list
of what it is supposed to do:
 Boosts energy levels
 Improves digestive
 function
 Improves mental clarity/focus
 Promotes sound sleep
 Provides all
 vital vitamins
 Contains several important minerals
 Is an extremely powerful
 free radical fighter
Acai has very high levels of fibers
 Cleanses and
Detoxifies the body of infectious toxins
 Strengthens your immune
 system
 Enhances sexual desire and performance
 Fights cancerous cells
 Slows
 down the aging process
 Promotes healthier and younger-looking
 skin
 Alleviates diabetes
 Normalizes and regulates cholesterol levels
 Helps
 maintain healthy heart function
 Minimizes inflammation
 Improves
 circulation
 Prevents artherosclerosis
 Enhances visual acuity

 The income
can be made in two ways (actually more, but two primary ways)
 1. Reselling
the product at a marked up price. This is something that I have no interest
in, and do not personally know anyone doing this.
 2. Team Commissions.
 a.
You make back 5 percent of the sales that occur below you in your tree.
 b.
You only have to personally sign 2 people. Other people above you will be
 adding to your tree.
 c. They call it a binary system, where you only have 2
people directly under you, and any other people that you add go down to the
bottom and benefit others as well as yourself.
 d. I already have two people
underneath me and have not personally signed anyone yet, so it is a quick
growing tree, even for people that may not be as motivated.
 e. After a
month, My brother-in-law has NO more out of pocket expenses to stay in this
system. The money he is earning is paying for his Minimum requirements. The
 rest is profit.

To sign up to be a distributor , which is required to make
 money, is $54
A case of Mona Vie is $120.
A case will last 2 people a month.
(you only take 2 ounces a day)

This may seem like a lot, but:
 1. You will
not need to buy any vitamins.
 2. My brother-in-law is already making $200 a
month, after being in the system for a month, So his cost for the Mona Vie
is covered and he is making $80 a month.
 3. As more people sign up, the
amount he gets back will increase.

Anyway, I am not intending this to be
pushy or salesy, I just wanted to let my associates, that may be looking for
 additional income, know about this.

 this:

I love these products, if you take them for 120 years then you live a
long life, doesn't really matter if you smoke or not, as long as you
take them for 120 years.

Premium Rate Services think like 900 and 976 numbers in the US, but
not every country allocates a particular block of numbers or prefixes to
its premium rate services, so with some, they're pretty close to

Re: [asterisk-users] FYI Panasonic Wireless Phone MWI

2006-12-17 Thread Doug Crompton
Yes I was very specific. Go back to my original post - search Panasonic
MWI - I described what I said and gave a link to the Panasonic specs for
this phone which clearly states that the MWI light blinks with new
messages and that phone company subscription to VM is required.

I did not mention Asterisk because if it works with phone company VM it
would work with Asterisk, assuming the FXO you were using was capable and
setup correctly.

How exactly did you phrase the question to their tech support? If you
described Asterisk as an answering machine then you'd get the wrong
answer. If you described Asterisk as a PBX which provides a signal just
like a telco voicemail would, then the answer would make sense.

Thanks Doug! That's good to know. I need to buy some analog cordless
phones, and that one was on my list. Now I can scratch it off. If it
helps, I have an ATT cordless that does have a working MWI indicator.
The model is 9345. It's one of their very low-end basic models, so
I'm guessing the better models would support MWI, too.

Well it is not clear - their ads say one thing and they say another. At
best there is confusion. If you really like the phone you could buy it
somewhere where you could take it back and check it when you get it.

The is the model TG5631.

Specs here...

and this was the response

Go figure!

Dear MR CROMPTON

Thank you for contacting Panasonic.

The purpose of the message button of your phone system is to inform you
that you have new
messages in your answering system. That indicator will not work for your
voicemail. We do not have any phone system that has a message alert
indicator that will work both for your voicemail and your answering

We hope this information is useful to you.

Thank You,

2006-01-04 Thread Tony Nichols
Got my latest Linux magazine (www.linux-magazine.com) and fetured is asterisk in home network.

I've also been in contact with Novel/SUSE about their asterisk pakages. Reinhard Max the maintainer.

He has hinted at new packages for SUSE 10. The current ones work well (in production) however he is unsure
about the new zaptel intergration but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

[Asterisk-Users] FYI on zttool output on SMP system

2005-12-23 Thread Steven
--- Results after 56 passes ---
Best: 100.00 -- Worst: 99.987793 -- Average: 99.999564
Only 2 were 99.987793, the 54 others were all 100.00.

I got this by making the changes below on my dual proc Dell 1750.

setpci -v -s 01:08.1 LATENCY_TIMER=8
setpci -v -s 00:0f.1 LATENCY_TIMER=8
setpci -v -s 01:04.0 LATENCY_TIMER=8
setpci -v -s 01:02.0 LATENCY_TIMER=8
setpci -v -s 00:0f.2 LATENCY_TIMER=8
setpci -v -s 01:04.0 LATENCY_TIMER=8 (these are USB, SCSI HW RAID driver,
Ethernet, Video, etc. I did not alter ZAP cards, nor any
bridges or buses)

echo 1 /proc/irq/17/smp_affinity (Ethernet)
echo 1 /proc/irq/18/smp_affinity (SCSI HW RAID Driver)
echo 2 /proc/irq/20/smp_affinity (TDM)
echo 2 /proc/irq/24/smp_affinity (TE411P)

I also turned of the startup of irqbalance.

The setpci changes did the most work concerning reaching 100% in zttest.

Irqbalance was causing the the processor handling the interrupts of the zap
cards to change very often.
This would impose a delay during the change and cause the zttest numbers to
drop/be inconsistent.

Because I turned irqbalance off, the irqs are processed round robin style,
which is also not good.
Therefore, I hard coded the processor affinity for the zap cards to one proc
and all other high load irqs to the other proc.
If you have more than 2 procs, you can spread them out even more. If you do not
turn off irqbalance, the affinity changes will be
overwritten by it.

I made these changes on a live system without issue.
I set these changes in /etc/rc.d/rc.local to reset them after reboots.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has offered some
cautionary advice for offices considering moving their telephone
systems to voice over IP.

VOIP introduces both security risks and opportunities, NIST said in
a recently released report. Lower cost and greater flexibility are
among the promises of VOIP for the enterprise, but VOIP should not be
installed without careful consideration of the security problems
introduced.

The report, Security Considerations for Voice over IP Systems [1],
offers recommendations for using VOIP. According to NIST, the need to
logically separate voice and data traffic, provide backup power and
ensure business continuity could seriously compromise the promise of
a single, inexpensive voice and data network.

NIST Special Publication 800-58 is the final version of a draft
report published in April by the agency's Computer Security Division.

[Asterisk-Users] FYI House bill exports analog phone regs to VoIP

Subject: [Politech] House bill exports analog phone regs to VoIP

http://www.politechbot.com/docs/boucher.voip.bill.070604.pdf

There's a new bill in the House of Representatives to regulate phone
calls made over the Internet. It was introduced this evening by Reps.
Rick Boucher, D-Va., and Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., and it's called the
Advanced Internet Communications Services Act of 2004. I've placed the
text online and have a summary and commentary at News.com.

The AICS bill takes a more regulatory approach than a competing proposal
from Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss. Boucher and Stearns say VoIP servcies
shall be subject to access charges and universal service taxes --
which is a really big deal. More on this later.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] FYI: Cisco firmware 7.1 released

2004-05-26 Thread Rich Adamson
Cisco has version 7.1 of their SIP firmware for the 79x0 phones. They
advertise no new software features, but it does include bugfixes for a
number of things. I know there was a discussion about the 0.4sec delay,
which is said to be resolved in this firmware (CSCed48311: Media takes 0.4
 sec to be set up)

I'll add to the above...

Looks like v7.0 fixed 26 known bugs (not all of which pertain to the sip
version), and v7.1 lists 28 resolved caveats (some of which appear to be
duplicate descriptions of those noted as fixed in v7.0).

V7.1 lists the following as open caveats:
 - SIP: 79x0 phones are not escaping reserved characters in URI/URLs
 - SIP: Need to CACHE cycle thru multiple DNS entries for FQDN Type A
 - SIP: Phone are not sending ICMP port unreachable
 - SIP: Inconsistent behaviour of AutoComplete feature on 79x0 phones
 - Anonymous Call Rejection returns wrong Response code
 - SIP: 79x0 ignores dst_start_time parameter when configured
 - SIP: Tx INVITEs to wrong port number after Rx 302 Moved Temporarily
 - SIP: CallerID Blocking needs to change more values to ANONYMOUS

Initial tests with v7.1 and CVS-HEAD-05/26/04 look good thus far.

grandstream tftp server or not. The other problem I had was as you were dialing a
number the dialtone did not go away until after you were done dialing and the actual
call was placed. The code has fixed that issue as well. I am really liking the
ATA-286 more and more but I have never used a Cisco product or the Sipura so I can
not comment on the differences. All I can say is, that this product works well for
me and does what it promised. Also their tech support is really good. They may not
always answer the phone but they do respond to emails quickly and usually with some
bit of knowledge which is a good thing.

Thanks Dorian for the response. Guess you are using Gentoo as any other
flavor on fully loaded mode.
Though its nice to know Asterisk performs well on Gentoo too, it would
be great to see if any customized installation has been made for
asterisk, to get it in a min. resource/full throttle mode.
i am up such a system this weekend. will share my thoughts once i get
it to work.

the portage tree only has asterisk-0.2 in it, you might want to try
out either of these ebuild sets:

(0.5 asterisk snapshot version + 0.8 zaptel snapshot version)

of gentoo? maybe 4gb; but I am using this server for a number of other
things as well: iptables, apache, mysql, php, etc. (it even has xfree
installed, although I'd like to get rid of that...)

Is it bulkier than Trustix ?

it's possible to make gentoo pretty small, but it will probably take
more effort to do so. you could probably try doing a stage-1 install
and leave out absolutely anything unnecessary... (e.g. build with
USE=-* at first, and then slowly add just the pieces you need)

it's actually possible to install the portage system onto another
distro, but the required python libs are pretty big by default
(80-90mb, I think).

Hi,

If anyone is looking for a small Asterisk installation I have managed
to get it down to 296MB (If you remove the kernel source code.. could
probably be made smaller if some of the devel packages and asterisk
source is removed as well.)

To do it I used Trustix Secure Linux 2.0 (http://www.trustix.net), did
a minimum install with ssh support(92MB) and then added the required
packages individually..

Everything has compiled and Asterisk loads but I haven't tried any
Zaptel drivers or hardware so can't comment on that..

Anyway if anyone needs a small secure install there it is..

distro, but the required python libs are pretty big by default (80-90mb,
I think).

[Asterisk-Users] FYI: Simple Small Asterisk install..

2003-11-19 Thread WipeOut
Hi,

If anyone is looking for a small Asterisk installation I have managed to
get it down to 296MB (If you remove the kernel source code.. could
probably be made smaller if some of the devel packages and asterisk
source is removed as well.)

To do it I used Trustix Secure Linux 2.0 (http://www.trustix.net), did a
minimum install with ssh support(92MB) and then added the required
packages individually..

Everything has compiled and Asterisk loads but I haven't tried any
Zaptel drivers or hardware so can't comment on that..

Anyway if anyone needs a small secure install there it is..

Later..

I would imagine that if you could get it into 256mb, that would be
ideal, since it would fit into many flash disk chips, while 292mb
means one would need to buy a 512mb chip (much more expensive.)

2003-11-19 Thread Klaus-Peter Junghanns
Hi,

if anyone is looking for a really small * installation take a SuSE
rescue system, add sshd, zaptel and *. Gzip it and the image is only
28MB which fits into a 64MB ramdisk and leaves some MBs for temporary
logs, CDRs and voicemail.

regards

I know this may seem like a dumb question, how do you run the system
from the gzipped file? got any links to info?

[Asterisk-Users] FYI: Perl module for Cisco 79x0 phones...

2003-09-07 Thread Andy Powell
hi,

not sure is anyone is aware, but I found a perl module that makes interfacing with a
cisco 79x0 phone a breeze

Though it might be of some use...
