I compiled c-client with the following settings: make lr5 IP6=4
and asterisk with: ./configure --with-imap=/usr/src/imap-2007a/
 However if i enable any if the imap settings in voicemail.conf, asterisk
starts acting funny and dosent allow any calls

imapserver=imap.gmail.com
imapport=993
mapfolder=Voicemail

Where did I go wrong?

[asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail

2012-05-28 Thread Jon Caum

Hello all,

I quickly searched online prior to sending this, but if this was previously
brought up, I sincerely apologize.

I noticed IMAP Voicemail remains as a build option in later versions of
Asterisk 1.8 but the only latest version I've found working is 1.8.8.0.

Is this an error in the latest source, or will IMAP no longer be supported?

Also note, I am using C-Client v2007f.

Any insight to this issue is greatly appreciated.

Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail. Please excuse my brevity.

Hi,

i've switched from the old vm-storage to imap-storage. Is there a script that

Note that port 993 is IMAPS and I think you are telling it to use IMAP. Note
also that Asterisk can get hung once in a while when using IMAP storage. Try
netstat -an | grep 5060 and see whether you have a queue building there.

[asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail Storage

2007-01-25 Thread Bruce Reeves

I am doing some testing with 1.4 and the imap storage and a exchange 2003
server. I have not had any positive results so far using the notes on the
wiki or the docs in the release. My current settings are

imapserver=
imapport=143
imapfolder=Voicemail
;imapflags=novalidate-cert
expungeonhangup=no

[default]
1114 =>1114,Bruce Reeves,[EMAIL PROTECTED]
,,attach=yes|imapuser=breeves|imappasswd=

I have also tried specifying a global account with
authuser=pbx
authpassword=

In either case I get a

[Jan 25 13:37:43] ERROR[3564]: app_voicemail.c:8417 mm_log: IMAP Error:

[Jan 25 13:37:43] ERROR[3564]: app_voicemail.c:4647 init_mailstream: Can't

[Jan 25 13:37:43] ERROR[3564]: app_voicemail.c:2529 inboxcount: IMAP

Can someone with this working or who sees the problem point me in the right

I'm unsure what you mean by 'found working'. Are you installing from
packages? If so, which packages? Are you installing from source?
If installing from source, are you installing from the 1.8 branch, or
from a specific tag? What errors are you having?

Re: [asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail

2012-05-29 Thread Jon Caum
In detail, I have tried both using the FreePBX distro, which uses packages -
specifically Asterisk18-voicemail-imapstorage - and using PBX In A Flash,
specifiying for Asterisk 1.8.8.0

When I use src for Asterisk version greater than 1.8.8.0, and download the
C-Client I specified earlier, compile it, and then run /usr/src/asterisk/make
menuselect and then select IMAP under Voicemail Build Options, it compiles fine
with no errors.

However, when I connect to the CLI "asterisk -r" and type "module show like
voice" It lists app_voicemail.so, but the description does not say "With IMAP".
Furtermore, the system does not ackowlede the IMAP parameters I specified in my
server.

As soon as I download and compile 1.8.8.0 and specify IMAP by running
menuselect, I leave a message at an extension and it delivers to the mailbox. I
can also observe in the Asterisk logs that it is communicating with our IMAP
server, whereas the in newer versions of 1.8.x it does not.

Also, with FreePBX distro it only works when I manually force the repos to look
at the 1.8.8.0 packages. Then insalling Asterisk18-voicemail-imapstorage works
fine.

For a detailed list of my installation procedure, I created a post at the PIAF
forums:

Re: [asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail

2012-06-19 Thread Jon Caum
It seems now that 1.8.13 now supports IMAP voicemail.

I just installed a fresh copy of PBX In a Flash and opted to install Asterisk
1.8.13. It seems now that when built with 'make menuselect' (after downloading
and making the IMAP client from UW and running './configure
--with-imap=/usr/src/imap' (I placed the IMAP client src at /usr/src/imap) I
can confirm that IMAP can connect to our IMAP server in the sky and deliver
messages fine.

It does seem like it just cannot get to your IMAP server; have you tried the

There really weren't any findings; I wrote a small patch which corrected how

As far as not asking all your users for their passwords -- I'm not sure what

I'm using "server" authentication -- i.e. one login for the entire server, not
per-user authentication... That's a critical difference I think. Did you set
up the IMAP user password in voicemail.conf? (I did not have to do that).

I mean that I would like to have a system in place so that Asterisk, as a
privileged service, can gain access to Courier's IMAP storage. Having to
keep track of all of our users' passwords in the Asterisk configuration is
going to provide a ridiculous amount of administration, as we force them to
change their passwords often in our single-sign on environment.

Re: [asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail Storage

2007-01-25 Thread Bruce Reeves

David,

According to the imap docs there should be away to set a single user and
password that Asterisk will use for IMAP connections, all that has to be
done then on the IMAP server is give that account full access to each
mailbox. That is according to the docs, I have not got my account to login
as me yet, but I'm still trying :)

How do they log on to check their voicemail? Is your SSO system entirely
numeric?

-A.

I'm not talking about setting the voicemail password. I'm talking about not
having to put my users' email passwords in the voicemail.conf file.
Asterisk, if I understand correctly, needs each user's email password to
deliver the voicemail, to integrate messaging into the IMAP server. Or it
needs a general user that has rights to deliver and read any mailbox, which
I don't know of existing in Courier.

You said you had done some testing. What model did you use? Did you put each
user's email username and password in the voicemail.conf, or were you able
to come up with a general user for Asterisk to use when delivering every
voicemail?

Ahh; yes that is what I use is the server auth, not user auth. I will have
the development machine up this morning; I'll get the config off of it and
post it here.

Server authentication under [general]; no individual user passwords.

[asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail with MS Exchange

2007-04-11 Thread Anthony Rodgers

Hi there,

We're trying to get IMAP voicemail storage working on an MS Exchange
server - I would be grateful if anyone who has successfully done this
could post the magic soup here, as extensive Google searching has
yielded nothing other than tantalizing references to it being done
without any specifics.

[asterisk-users] IMAP voicemail using subfolders fails.

2009-10-19 Thread Barry L. Kline
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I am running 1.6.0.15 and am trying to get IMAP storage working. I
have had no trouble doing so, except that I wish to create a subfolder
in my account for voicemail, such that I have:

#voicemail/
   INBOX
   Old
   Family
   Friends
   Work

I can set IMAPFOLDER=#voicemail.INBOX in voicemail.conf and successfully
get voicemail to work as expected. Messages appear in INBOX and are
deleted if removed from the phone. If, however, I attempt to "change
folders" with option 2, I get the following error:

file.c:950 ast_streamfile: Unable to open vm-#voicemail.INBOX (format
0x4 (ulaw)): No such file or directory

Clearly, app_voicemail is looking for vm-INBOX and is building the
voicemail prompt file name based upon the voicemail folder. I attempted
to symlink vm-INBOX.gsm to vm-vm-#voicemail.INBOX.gsm but that didn't
help, either.

I have tried using the combination of:

IMAPPARENTFOLDER=#voicemail
IMAPFOLDER=INBOX

but in this case the VM system can't find the messages and the voicemail
app simply dies. So that isn't the right incantation.

Surely, it's possible to do what I'm looking to do, isn't it? So my
questions are: "How do I configure app_voicemail to use IMAP
subfolders?" and "I have used '/' as the delimter as well as the '.'
character. Am I using the wrong one and if so, what is the correct one?"

TIA,

Barry

[asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail and Directory not working?

2008-12-22 Thread Noah Miller
Hi All -

I'm wondering if anybody has IMAP Voicemail AND the directory working
together. I haven't had any success. IMAP voicemail works fine, but
when it's active, the Directory does not work. The problem seems to
be with libc-client. Specifically, asterisk is not able to access the
mm_dlog function.

I've tried with Asterisk 1.4.22+ and 1.6.0+ using CentOS 5.2, Ubuntu
8.10 and Fedora 9. In each case, I used the native package manager to
install libc-client, and in each case, after asterisk is compiled and
voicemail users are configured, I get an error in the log that says
this:

[Dec 22 15:19:15] WARNING[24536] loader.c: Error loading module
'app_directory.so': /usr/lib/libc-client.so.2007b: undefined symbol:
mm_dlog

I also tried compiling from UW's c-client source, and I can clearly
see the mm-dlog function in the source, but when compiled and linked
into the shared object library, asterisk can't seem to access it.

Does anybody have this working? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks,
Noah

Interesting. I've generally only seen this done with unified messaging
systems, like Cisco Unity, and some proprietary ones I've worked with,

which involve taking messages of various media types (fax, voice, e-mail)
and storing them using some intermediate abstraction/middleware and then
designing access services which talk to said layer, be it a POP or IMAP
server.

I haven't used IMAP voicemail yet, so you'll have to bear with me here.

Have you tried configuring Asterisk to save voicemail messages on the
Exchange server using IMAP? What was the result?

IMAP support in Exchange, as in Outlook, is rough and rather ugly. For
obvious reasons it's never been in MS interest to support it properly,
as they want people to use their native Exchange server protocol.

There's probably a good reason why you want to do it the way you want
to, but I'll ask the question anyway -- what about delivering the
message over SMTP?

I would love to know if you get this working. We use the SMTP features now,
but the ability for a message to be managed from either email client or
phone and be changes seen in both is the missing link for us.

[asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail - can't get messages. Arrgh!

2009-04-06 Thread Noah Miller
Hi -

I just deployed a system using IMAP Voicemail. During my testing,
voicemail worked fine. I could check vm from the phone, and the
messages would get marked as read, or I could read the messages in a
mail client, and the phone's mwi light would turn off. Very neat.

I'm not exactly sure when things got munged up, but something broke.
I can record messages with Voicemail(), but now when I access an IMAP
mailbox using VoicemailMain(), it always says there are no messages,
even when there clearly are (unread) messages in the IMAP mailbox.

I've also got the asterisk GUI running on this system, and its status
page (retrieved via manager, I believe, or maybe "voicemail show
users") shows the correct message counts. I tried debugging manager
messages to see how it was getting the message counts, but I didn't
get any useful output. Does anyone know a better way (any way) to
debug issues with IMAP Voicemail? I do see an error on the CLI:

I can't help you directly but I can share my experience with folders. I
intentionally did not set up the folder structure in IMAP as recommended
in the documentation. To my pleasant surprise, when the folders were
needed (e.g., a user moves a voice mail via the voicemail application to
"friends", etc.), they were created on the fly, i.e., Asterisk created
them within the IMAP folder system. I am using 1.6.1.6 with Zimbra as

I'm thinking this is a bug. I just changed the delimiter to '/' and
then the file that * attempted to open was vm-#voicemail/INBOX. I
created a subdirectory vm-#voicemail and linked vm-INBOX.gsm to

Either I'm attempting to do something funky with my configuration or the

That's a bug; the IMAP folder prefix should not be used in construction
of prompt names to be played back. Please open an issue on
issues.asterisk.org reporting this problem (and while you are there,
also mention that the 'imapfolder' configuration option is not
documented in voicemail.conf.sample, and that the usage of

for storage. I can't seem to find that warning in the 1.6 branch. Is
this no longer a problem?

It's not present in the current 1.4 doc/imapstorage.txt file, or any
later version. I don't even know why the storage format would matter,
since that would be very specific to the IMAP server that is managing
that folder.

Hmmm

http://markmail.org/message/up3rfmdk2kjf6r7y

is a link that contains the contents of a README file that looks like it
came from Digium. About half-way down is:

-- Mailbox Format --

Mailboxes should use the "mbx" mailbox format. The "mbox" format does
not support concurrent access to mailboxes, which can cause deadlock or
strange behaviors. You can convert mailboxes from mbox to mbx using
mailutil:

Perhaps that came from a different product? I think that I'm going to
just go ahead and implement IMAP VM and see what happens.

Thanks very much Kevin!

Barry,

I don't think that Maildir or a database backend solution (such as
Exchange) suffers from this same limitation.

I would be more interested in knowing how sensitive this would be to
latency if using an IMAP server that isn't on the same device as the
Asterisk server (or perhaps even a remote IMAP server)?

Maildir makes sense, but the text I quoted in an earlier message is now
no longer part of the imapstorage text. I moved to that last evening
and we'll see how it works out today.

- From what I can see, the file is downloaded locally and then played. So
I don't think that latency is an issue. I'm not 100% on that but based
on what I read in the docs that's the general feeling that I get.
Obviously the best solution if I want to be sure is to convert our
inbound to Maildir format.

Glad you made it home okay from the flight!

[asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail -- HELP! Asterisk not playing Greeting!

2007-11-11 Thread Michael Schwartz

I'm using Asterisk 1.4.13, the latest released version. The linux platform
is FC7.

I setup my Asterisk server to use IMAP storage. Dovecot is the IMAP
server. Its storing messages perfectly--no problems.

I should also mention that I'm using MySQL for real-time configuration.
That must be working (at least partially), because I can authenticate v.
the voicemail table.

However, the Voicemail system does not play a custom unavailable greeting.
When I record the greeting (using the std voicemail method), it creates a
valid .WAV file, which I can play using the Playback command. However,
when an incoming voicemail is received, Asterisk plays the default system
greeting.

I see this warning in the logs:
//...2125551212 is the sample voicemail box in this example...//

[Nov 11 12:30:00] WARNING[8343] app_voicemail.c: Failed to open file:
/var/spool/asterisk/voicemail/consumer/2125551212/unavail/msg-001.WAV: No
such file or directory

I'm not sure if this is actually bad though, because it is recording the
messages in /var/spool/asterisk/voicemail/consumer/2125551212.

Any ideas? I don't understand why the voicemail system would know how to
record the greeting, but not play it.

Thanks in advance! I'm really stumped on this one.

- Mike Schwartz

Re: [asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail and Directory not working?

2008-12-22 Thread Danny Nicholas
Not a solution, but a work-around. You could write a routine in Perl or C
or something to monitor the database and send out the voicemail via IMAP
when it comes in. I do a similar thing to increase the volume of a received
voicemail (WAV) and send it out to an Iphone.

Subject: [asterisk-users] IMAP Voicemail and Directory not working?

Thanks,
Noah

On Ubuntu and Debian (Lenny/Sid) -

  apt-get source asterisk
  # as root / using sudo:
  apt-get build-dep asterisk
  cd asterisk-1
  ASTERISK_NO_DOCS=yes fakeroot debian/rules build

Does it build? If so, you have a similar version of Asterisk that builds
with IMAP support.

(ASTERISK_NO_DOCS=yes is merely intended to save you some unnecessary 5
minutes and ~80MB of generating the API docs)

I finally got this to work. For some reason, none of the packaged
versions of libc-client from any of the distributions I tried support
mm_dlog, which is required by the Directory app. I ended up compiling
from uw-imap's source on Ubuntu, and that worked right away. On the
Red Hat varieties, compiling from source worked, but I had to specify
-fPIC and a few other compiler flags when building UW's c-client.

For the record, if anybody needs to do this on a redhat platform:

1. Download imap-2007e (or latest version) from
ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/imap/
2. Unpack and compile with a make command like:

 make  SSLTYPE=none EXTRACFLAGS="-DIGNORE_LOCK_EACCES_ERRORS=1 \
 -I/usr/include/openssl -fPIC -fno-strict-aliasing -Wall
-Wno-pointer-sign -Wno-parentheses"

  (See the Makefile for a list of platforms - I used 'lr5' for CentOS 5.2)

3. In the asterisk source, run the configure script with the imap flag:

./configure --with-imap=/path/to/imap-source

  (use the base directory of the imap source - e.g. /usr/src/imap-2007e )

4. Run "make menuselect" for asterisk and select "IMAP_STORAGE" from
the Voicemail Build Options.

Of course, you'll also need an appropriately configured IMAP server
(for CentOS, I recommend their default choice of Dovecot).

http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/asterisk
http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/amd64/asterisk/filelist

app_voicemail_imap.so is included .

I built several newer versions on my Lenny system and never encountered
such an issue.

Hmm but in my 1.6.0 copy app_voicemail_imap.so doesn't have mm_dlog
as well.

It came from http://svn.digium.com/svn/asterisk/branches/1...@134223
("Merging the imap_consistency branch.")

Very interesting. I tried this with 1.6.1-beta4 on Fedora 9. On
startup, asterisk looks in the --with-imap folder which has just a
static lib, but not a shared lib. The static lib can be installed with
the uw-imap-static rpm. But even if the static lib is installed,
asterisk chooses the shared lib over the static lib.

So...something about how Fedora builds the shared lib screws it up. I
looked at the spec file, but couldn't see anything. Does any distro
have a shared lib that works?

And asterisk should only use the static lib even if the shared lib is
available - or at least have a configure switch that requires the
static lib.

This appears to be the same issue as was resolved in bug 14685. If you use the
latest version of Asterisk 1.6.0 branch then you shouldn't have that issue
anymore.

svn co http://svn.digium.com/svn/asterisk/branches/1.6.0 asterisk-1.6.0-vanilla
cd asterisk-1.6.0-vanilla
./configure && make install

Or wait for Asterisk 1.6.0.10 which will incorporate the changes since 1.6.0.8;
the recent 1.6.0.9 release that went out only incorporates the changes to
1.6.0.7 plus the security release in 1.6.0.8, and a merge issue that crept into
the 1.6.0 branch from trunk in 1.6.0.9.

Thanks!

Aha! Thanks, Leif! I'm not insane. OK, well, maybe I am. I didn't
find that bug. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go with
1.6.1.0-rc4. Some of those items in the 1.6.1.0rc4 changelog just
look to good to be passed up (or too scary to ignore).

[asterisk-users] imap voicemail is being sent to the wrong imap account

2008-07-28 Thread Mike Oliveras
I am testing the imap voicemail funtionality. I compiles asterisk using
version 1.4.21.2 on rhel5.1.
I have two different customers provisioned on the same asterisk as follows:

taken from voicemail.conf:

imapserver=192.168.196.43
imapflags=notls
authuser=asterisk
authpassword=asterisk

; Voicemail for customer '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
[cust1]
100 => 1234,Mike Oliveras,,,tz=pacific|[EMAIL PROTECTED]
200 => 1234,Grand Stream,,,tz=pacific|[EMAIL PROTECTED]
300 => ,Joe Blow,,,tz=pacific|[EMAIL PROTECTED]
400 => ,sipp,,,tz=pacific|[EMAIL PROTECTED]
800 => 1234,Michael Oliveras,,,tz=pacific|[EMAIL PROTECTED]

; Voicemail for customer '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
[cust2]
100 => 1234,Link Sys,,,tz=pacific|[EMAIL PROTECTED]
600 => ,Joe Blow,,,tz=pacific|[EMAIL PROTECTED]
700 => ,Fax Line,,,tz=pacific|[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I am using dovecot as the imap server.

If extension 200 calls extension 100 (both belong to cust1), then the
voicemail is left in the mailbox belonging to cust2. Also, vmwi is sent
to both [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] If user [EMAIL PROTECTED]
checks voicemail,
the response is that there are no messages waiting. If [EMAIL PROTECTED]
checks
voicemail, it is successful and vmwi is removed from both phones.

I can send additional debug if needed, but I just wanted to check first
if tere is any known reason why this would not work. I also tried
removing the authuser and authpassword from voicemail.conf and
provisioned an imappassword for each user and got exactly the same result.

Is there any reason why I can't use the same mailbox number? This works
fine when voicemail is stored locally.

Best Regards,

Mike Oliveras

[asterisk-users] IMAP voicemail with Exchange (was: A way to run extenrnotify when IMAP events take place...)

2008-11-22 Thread Noah Miller
Hi Jeff -

Sorry to hijack this thread (at least I changed the Subject), but this
really caught my eye. I was under the impression that Exchange's IMAP
doesn't have the master user feature and therefore can't do single
username authentication for multiple mailboxes. Care to share how you
accomplished this?

Thanks,
Noah

BTW... I have only tested this on Exchange 2003, I have not yet had the
chance to check it out on Exchange 2007, but I'm guessing that it
works... I will update when I know...

Hi Noah,

Yes, there is a way with Exchange 2003 to use a master user. After
doing lots of IMAP hacking and testing on Exchange 2003, I found that
there IS A WAY!!! I am using Asterisk 1.6.1-Beta2, but this should also
work in 1.4.x as it is Exchange specific, not Asterisk specific.

I'm sure this is the long awaited for secret that many IT Professionals
have been looking for and here is how it works...

In your voicemail.conf:

ext_num =>
vm_pass,user_name,user_email,user_pager_email|imapuser=domain.com\admin_
user_name\mailbox_name|imappassword=apmin_user_password

The admin username is just the username, and the mailbox name is just
the prefix (before the @ symbol) of the e-mail address.

Example:

1688 =>
2604,1688,[EMAIL PROTECTED],,tz=central|imapuser=domain.com\vmadmin\user|
imappassword=Asterisk123

It works for me, let me know if it works for the rest of you!!!

Thanks,

from my recent research Exchange2003 does have a master user that can be
given write access to all mailboxes. Exchange2007, though removes the
MasterUser capability.

Ah, what a tease! For the client that would want this, I'm going to
be upgrading their Exchange 2003 cluster to 2007 in a few weeks. Oh
well.  Thanks for the info.
