This information seems to indicate there is a problem with the 1850 and the
onboard nic.

2006-09-12 Thread Steve Rawlings

Hi Arjan,

We're thinking about purchasing a Dell 1850 for a new production Asterisk,
could you detail your spec, ie processor, memory, raid or whatever, it could
really help me. We too have a 4 port Digium PRI, a TE405 and also a TDM22b.
I know our requirements could be different from yours, we're looking at
about 70 SIP users, including maybe 35 agents with calls recorded
eventually, but would be good to have a baseline to work from, many thanks.

Regards,

Steve

I am running trixbox 1.1.1 on an 850. Actually on 2 850s, one is a
hot-swap spare. No problems. The problems that were reported earlier
on were with specific Digium boards on specific Dell machines. I have a
T-1 for my connectivity which comes in through a Cisco router and have
no problems.

never had to reboot the box or restart Asterisk (except for kernel upgrades

Oops, right we ordered 2 SuperMicro [X6DH8-XB, 2xIntel Xeon Processor

We will put 2xTE110P into the box. Hmmm... we can expect problems?

The system has been rock solid on both performance and reliability. One is
located in out corporate office, two in local data center, and three
distributed California, Wyoming, and NYC. We have experienced issues with
some of our ISPs but nothing that could blamed on the hardware. I will
likely continue to order Dell as we expand the system. Mainly for uniformity
though.

Email me off list if you like to see a test.

I'm using a DELL PE750 server with an AVM c2, suse-pro installed, capi
works out of the box. DELL servers do a lot of noise, consider it if you
aren't putting the server in a dedicated room, really ... I have two of
them in the corridor out of my office, they drive me insane ...

Digium's recommendation is quite clear: 'Don't use Dell hardware'

And it's a great shame Digium hardware has such problems on Dell kit, since
there's so much of it about :(

Cheers,
Gavin.
