And why all these cock robin "the sky is falling" statements. Nothing
has been interrupted yet and until it happens, no point in starting an
avalanche from the torrent.

Well services broke. It's down.. DIDs ring fast busy.Does anyone
know the details of why nufone did not have backup providers? How can
someone lose a contract with a CLEC like that?! Is there more to this
story then we know?

Well... outbound calls via Nufone still function, so I'd guess they are
scrambling to find another cost effective source for DID's (which will
likely not be the same DIDs they had due to probable portability
issues). That would also suggest 800 numbers can't be remapped until
new DIDs are implemented. I'd guess they are up to their ears, not to
mention their paperwork (etc) to re-implement what was functional.

At least outbound calls still work, even though they changed IP
addresses (and probably colo locations).

I would be very wary, as VOIP providers feel no responsibility to the

Exactly why I chose to go with a PRI for business use.  There is something to be said for the stability of a telco, even if it's not SBC (or AT&T now).  In some cases, government interference is good.  How many businesses can survive a loss of their phone number?  I know the ones I deal with cannot.

This is something we need to take into consideration as Asterisk users or consultants.  We need to look at the whole picture, not just a short term savings.  Can your business/clients survive without listings in directory assistance or the phone books?  Can they survive if they have to change numbers due to their Voip provider losing a contract?  Some can, most can't.  I looked into using Voip.  Technically, it seemed like a good solution.  I just don't trust it in the long run.  I know that by using a telco, I will have access to my phone numbers.  With Voip providers, who controls the numbers?

I think this is something a lot of people fail to take into consideration.

Ok, NOW you can yell "the sky is falling" :)

I was in contact with two people from NuFone yesterday and I don't
have the *impression* they're going belly up, but obviously I could be
wrong. I don't know why they don't have a backup.

Unlike many providers, they have definitely posted info in the public
accessible area of their web site about this issue. The latest
statement says they expect the number to come back during the week.
One of the people I "spoke" with yesterday said within a week.

I'm just relaying what I've heard and read, please don't argue
directly with me, I have no stake in this except as a customer of
Nufone (and at least 10 other providers). I myself do have backup
providers ;)

I got one and it was sent to the address I originally signed up with. I
cahnged my contact address a few months ago and when I login it clearly
shows the newer address in my profile.

This is why I always insist on having a test system when I am coding. I
am just not comfortable experimenting with production systems. I'm such

Folks, please.

This thread has the potential to become a torrent.

It belongs on -biz as it has nothing to do with Asterisk itself.

And why all these cock robin "the sky is falling" statements. Nothing
has been interrupted yet and until it happens, no point in starting an
avalanche from the torrent.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] FW: NuFone Update: DIDs (Correction)

2006-04-19 Thread Wes Baehr
Correction to my original post:

My service has not been interrupted, as far as I know, and probably won't
be. But, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have another provider in case
Telesthetic does decide to cut NuFone off. (Although an agreement supposedly
has been reached.)

NuFone is still one of the best providers I've used so far, with great
support (and prices).

(And my toll-free service hasn't been interrupted either).

Effective 3pm EST Today, April 18th, 2006 Telesthetic, the carrier
supporting the Toll-Free
and Michigan DID operations of NuFone, has threatened to terminate our
services. We were
only informed of such decisions on Thursday Afternoon, April 13th, 2006,
which as anyone
knows is abolutely not enough time to solve the complex matters at hand.

Initially, we were hopeful that we could work out an acceptable deal, at the
very least,
to allow us enough time to move your telephone numbers to another carrier
without much, if
any service interruption. Sadly, this no longer seems to be the case.

We are currently working with another carrier to host your Toll-Free
numbers. However, you
may want to consider submiting a Number Portability request to another
carrier, to avoid
any service outages caused by Telesthetic's threat to terminate our service.
We can
always port your number back to our service at later date, at no cost to
you.

If you would like to keep your Michigan telephone number you will need to
contact Telesthetic
directly at 248-724-0600 to determine if they will provide you service or
not.

We are going to do everything we can to survive yet another failed business
partnership. We do
not intend to give up. We can and will prevail through yet another time of
great challenge.

We will update you as soon as we have more information.

Thank you for your continued support and words of encuragement.

2006-04-19 Thread Brian C. Fertig
Well I know from personal experience that NuFone is working on a
solution for its customers as fast as it can. I know they found an
alternate termination provider and are working to have a solution for
the TF and Local DID's he currently has on his platform.
