Okay, but it should be mentioned that M$-Messenger is at least a dead
horse regarding it's functionality as a SIP client. SIP support has been
dropped in SP2 for XP.

So seems merely positive to me. Messenger won't be the Outlook of VoIP
telephony and we won't have to worry about strange implementations of SIP
and other standards.

The SIP client in Windows Messenger 5.0 seems to work fine with Asterisk
though.

I'm not sure if I remember right, but I think that 4.7v of Windows Messenger
did work in presence sense, but as I told I'm not sure.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] windows messenger

2004-10-11 Thread Bill Seddon
Asterisk doesn't support MSN9 the protocol Windows Messenger (and MSN
Messenger) uses to communicate with a messenger server such as MSN or
Windows 2003 running the Live Conferencing server.

It should be possible to write an MSN9 server independently of Asterisk
since the information needed by such a server is available via the Manager
API.

is it possible to windows messenger clients of an asterisk server to chat
(text chat) with each other?
what about the status presence? is it possible to each windows messenger
client of an asterisk server to see the presence on other clients?
if not, what is missing in asterisk?

Re: [Asterisk-Users] windows messenger and DTMF

2003-12-22 Thread Lee Goodman

There are 2 ways to place a call in MSN messenger,
either place a voice message or place a call. Place a voice message is like
chat, but you put in your [EMAIL PROTECTED] but if you
use this option, you can't send dtmf digits, place a call drops down a dtmf
keypad. If you don't get the keypad, then make sure your MSN registry option
CorpPC2Phone is set to 1.

Also, unless they fixed it, MSN messenger can't be
put on hold (or you can, but you can't get it back again!)

  Hello
  All,

  Another question
  todayJ

I have just started playing with
windows messenger and asterisk – following the little how-to from the asterisk
web-site work well – good sound quality but you cannot put people on hold
transfer them or send DTMF (to get asterisk to do the transfer) or am I
missing something – this makes quite a poor soft phone if this is the
  case?

  Thanks

Check out X-Lite. http://www.xten.com

Only the older (pre 5.x) versions of Messenger support
SIP. If u can get a copy of v4.7 that will work fine.
Instructions on setup can be easily found by doing a
search of this mailing list. (look for the keywork 'MSN').

I do however suggest X-Lite, for the sole reason that it
isn't written by Micro$oft.

Can anyone provide me with a step by step on how to set
up Windows
Messenger on a Windows XP Pro box as a SIP client with
asterisk? I'm
interested in doing various tests of my asterisk server
from the Windows
perspective of the world. In the alternative if someone
could provide
information on another Windows based fully functional
easy to configure
iax or SIP client that would suffice as well.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Windows Messenger

2003-08-14 Thread WipeOut .
As far as the Windows world goes you have some options for SIP softphones..

Free software..

MSN Messenger 4.7 (MS have changed Messenger 5.x so it no longer supports SIP, Isn't
that just like Microsoft?? TRYING to be incompatible with the rest of the world.)

X-Lite ( Quite a good phone now, Had its problems in the past.. Lost of codecs
supported but I still have not been able to get a SIP/iLBC connection to work but
G.711a,G.711u and GSM all work fine. Configuration sucks a little cos you have to
rememebr where everything is in the millions of menus..)

SJPhone ( Basic phone, Does what a phone should do.. Only supports G.711 in the free
version and looks to be quite expensive to buy the G.729 codec.)

Not free software..

X-Pro ( pretty much the same as X-Lite but has more lines available and can be used to
connect to multiple SIP servers and then the user can simply choose which they want to
use.)

E-Stara ( Very good phone, they provide a trial version that expires so you can test
it out, Used it a long time ago so can't rememebr the codec support, I don't know the
costs either.)

Nortel and Cisco also do soft phones and I am sure many others..

Hope that helps..
