Hi Jose,

I see from the m0n0wall site that physdiskwrite does now support upto
2GB - and even this can be overridden.

---
Change log

0.5.1: increased safety overwrite limit to 2 GB (instead of 800 MB); can
still be overridden with -u
---

I suggest you download the latest version and have another go.

You can use the following method.

Physdiskwrite -u astlinux-0.6.2-net5501.img

This will write the .img file to ant CF over 800mb

NOTE: Read the onscreen instructions carefully when you select CF

Re: [Astlinux-users] 0.6.2 Released

2008-11-27 Thread dan
All,

Since it's Thanksgiving today, and this needs to be said, thanks to the
developers for their ongoing efforts with Astlinux. I'm looking forward to
taking 0.6.2 for a test drive.

Is it possible that the geni586 version of 0.6.2 has a permissions problem on
the server? The only place I could find 0.6.2 is in the upgrade directory
(http://www.djhsolutions.com/astlinux/upgrade/geni586/). When downloading
astlinux-0.6-2082.run, I get:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access
/astlinux/upgrade/astlinux-0.6.2-geni586/astlinux-0.6.2.run
on this server.
Any suggestions?

Regards,

[Astlinux-users] Install guide for net5501

2008-11-27 Thread Tod Fitch
Thanks for the 0.6.2 release! I was going to sit down and setup my
Soekris net5501 from scratch (again) today anyway and it is nice to
have a fresh release to do it with.

Anyway, I have documented the steps required using Linux to write the
CompactFlash device. I don't know what is being used to run www.astlinux.org
but I used HTML that is compatible with the output of that site. I
could easily change it to mediawiki or other format if desired. So if
anyone else is interested, I can pass it on for posting as a howto or
quick start page under the documentation section.

First you need to gunzip the file first and then use physdiskwrite to write the

  Hi Jose,

First you need to gunzip the file first and then use physdiskwrite to write
the .img file to your CF.

 Cheers

 Hi Jose,

You can use the following method.

 Physdiskwrite -u astlinux-0.6.2-net5501.img

This will write the .img file to ant CF over 800mb

NOTE: Read the onscreen instructions carefully when you select CF

 Cheers

 Cleve

 Hi Jose

can't you partition the CF card before you run physdiskwrite? E.g. into
 500mb and 1.5 GB partitions ?

 Mart

HI martin. I was watching that url when at first I tried to install.
 however
my CF is 2 gigas and it appears that some protection arise when the disk
 is
larger than 800mb so i couldnt use that link to install with
physdiskwrite. here the post I put after the original

when I tried to use physdiskwrite. it ask me What Disk do you want to
write. but the CF is 2 gigas capacity. and it said in cmd.exe that the
disk is larger than 800mb (safety overwrite check) please check another
 one
  this in windows.
so I couldnt to write the compact flash. and If I could. I dont know
 how
to make CF boot. or install

  reader flash compact reader.
the thing is that i dont know the step by step to do so.
what I see it. seems no deep for a neofito guy as I am. I have seen the
runnix install but is not deep enough since only said that it can be
 done
with physdiskwrite. but it does not supply HOW.
I download the imgs. and unzip. but I am stuck. cuz i dont know if I
 need
  to
download runnix first or it came with the astlinux. etc
I even dont know physdiskwrite. but you can told me step by step. in
  order
to install astlinux with runix 6.2 in a CF that would work in my new

Re: [Astlinux-users] Net5501 hanging on boot question

2008-11-27 Thread Darrick Hartman
I've only seen that problem with non-San Disk cf cards. In any case, it's
really a Soekris problem, not an AstLinux problem.

You may get a better response on their mailing list.

 No POST message, nothing.

If I disconnect the console cable and power-cycle, then it boots.

No idea what's hanging the console.

 Anyone have an idea?

I'm using Windows and SecureCRT as the console.
