Re: [Astlinux-users] MiniPCI PRI for 5501

2009-07-21 Thread Michael Keuter
at BeroNet seem also a miniPCI E1 in the works, see:

   http://www.beronet.com/content/view/73/91/lang,en/

In case anyone was interested in the release of this product, Beronet
have just told me they are no longer going to produce it. I think that
leaves the Junghanns as the only minPCI PRI on the market.

Cheers

Tom

Do you especially need miniPCI?
Because BeroNet also sells the new BeroFix modular card/box next month:

Yes, because, together with a PCI analogue card, it will all fit in a
standard net5501 case.

Tom

And with the Berofix you could have it as small additional external
box, which has slots for 2 modules.

Re: [Astlinux-users] PRI power requirements

2009-07-21 Thread Josh Mahonin
Oh, ok. Around the office we pretty much mix and match our power
supplies, so I wasn't quite sure.

I'm sure you'll have power enough for just the PRI alone, but I've never
tried mounting two PCI cards on a net5501, nor have I tried using the
line cards in a Soekris.

I suppose you'll find out soon enough whether or not 1.5A will do the
job. Please let the list know your results.

The standard PSU is 1.5A. The more powerful one is 3.0A. Looks as
though the standard one should do the job, in that case?

 Thanks for the help

Re: [Astlinux-users] PRI power requirements

2009-07-21 Thread John Novack

All of their power comes off the PCI bus, which is fairly limited
FXS circuits in PCI cards require additional 12VDC not available on the
bus, and supplied from, in many machines, the Hard Drive power connector

Hi Tom,

I couldn't find any stats after a quick Google, but I don't think a PRI
would be too much more power hungry than say, a network adapter. The
FXS/FXO cards are the real pigs, Digium even makes a PCI-mounted
external power unit for them
(http://www.digium.com/en/products/analog/analogpwr.php).

I've only ever used a net5501 with one PCI card, and the general rule we
go by is 12V @ 1.2A - 1.5A just to be sure. If you're just using the
1.0A power supply, especially with a PRI and FXS/FXO line card, you
might run into trouble.

Good luck,

Josh

Hello

I am looking to build a net5501-based Astlinux install with a
Junghanns miniPCI PRI card
(http://www.junghanns.net/en/singleE1mini_produkt.html). With previous
net5501 builds, I've bought the ordinary Soekris PSU. Is a PRI card
power-hungry, and hence will I need to buy the more powerful PSU? Or
will the standard one do the job? The box will also have an analogue
card installed with 3xFXO and 1xFSO.

Thanks

With solid-state DC/DC converters, so can increase the voltage (that's
how PoE generates 48VDC on a 12V power supply). The main issue is current.
