[ath5k-users] Does ath5k/9k work on 64 bit OSs and machines?
I'm using mine on a 64 bit host. There have been some issues, but nothing that I would guess has anything to do with the 64-bit:ness. ___ ath5k-users mailing list ath5k-users@lists.ath5k.org https://lists.ath5k.org/mailman/listinfo/ath5k-users

How often is "only this and then"? I have 2596 occurrences in the 137 hours my current /var/log/messages covers. I.e. roughly once every third minute on the average. It seems to work as an access point most of the time, but it is somewhat unreliable. I'm not sure which side of the connection I should blame. Could this be the reason? And if so, what can I do about it? ___ ath5k-users mailing list ath5k-users@lists.ath5k.org https://lists.ath5k.org/mailman/listinfo/ath5k-users

(Well, it isn't official yet, it's just in the build system so far. But it's getting there.) So I guess the ath5k driver wasn't the problem. And asking on this list I probably only made unnecessary noise. Sorry for that. Since I previously had this working with the madwifi driver, I thought the problems were on the driver level. But as you say, at this time I need help understanding hostapd rather than the driver. Ok, now I understand a bit better. Thanks a lot. I'm not sure why the Wii, being on AC power, would go inte this powersave mode, but I guess it could. Is there some way to trace the packets being sent and received? Just to see if this might explain what is going on. As I said, I tried tcpdump and didn't see anyting. But maybe it doesn't show things on this more basic level? ___ ath5k-users mailing list ath5k-users@lists.ath5k.org https://lists.ath5k.org/mailman/listinfo/ath5k-users

I can't claim that I quite understand what is said in those links. But I'm confused by "powersaving client". Are you saying that the client, the Wii in my test case, enters a powersaving state when it tries to connect, and that is why it can't connect to my server AP? ___ ath5k-users mailing list ath5k-users@lists.ath5k.org https://lists.ath5k.org/mailman/listinfo/ath5k-users

Taking another look in my dmesg, I found this line udev: renamed network interface wlan0 to ath0 So something similar is obviously going on her on my Fedora system. I'll remove these settings and try again. (But could really a name change explain my problems? It did change to ath0, and ath0 is what all my configurations points to. So it looks as if it would be consistent. I'll try anyway, but it looks a bit far-fetched, doesn't it?) ___ ath5k-users mailing list ath5k-users@lists.ath5k.org https://lists.ath5k.org/mailman/listinfo/ath5k-users

Joachim Pedersen: > Are you just running hostapd? Because you also need provide tcp/ip > networking, ie, some kind of dhcp server, and appropriate firewall > rules for NAT, DNS, and forwarding. Thanks for checking, but unfortunately, that's probably not the issue. These things are set up. As far as I can remember, these parts are unchanged since I had this running with the madwifi driver. (But I wouldn't swear on that, the dhcpd is used on our internal wired network too, and there may have been some change in that part of the configuration.) Dhcpd is running on the server where I run hostapd. It says in the log that it is listening on ath0. But there is no indication in the log it gets any requests while trying to run the connection test in the Wii. I've tried doing tcpdump on the ath0 interface, but it doesn't report any packages. My firewall rules do allow forwarding to the outside from the wireless net. And my firewalls rules end in a log entry, so if it failed on that level I would also have seen some messages in the log. As far as I can tell the problem is in some earlier phase. (The phases I understand less.) ___ ath5k-users mailing list ath5k-users@lists.ath5k.org https://lists.ath5k.org/mailman/listinfo/ath5k-users
[ath5k-users] Using ath5k as an Access Point with a 2.6.31.5 kernel
xavier.bestel at free.fr (Xavier Bestel): > I'm using hostapd 0.6.9 + kernel 2.6.31 on debian, and it works like > charm I'm trying to do this too, but it isn't working. Anyone can give a clue what is wrong? I'm using 2.6.31.5 on Fedora 12 and have built hostapd 0.6.9 for it. I try to connect to this AP from a Nintendo Wii. When the Wii scans for networks, it does find my ssid. But when doing a "connection test" it fails. Running hostapd with -dd flags, it repeatedly writes this during the test: unknown vendor specific information element ignored (vendor OUI 00:10:18 len=9) STA 00:23:31:70:a6:d8 sent probe request for our SSID MGMT (TX callback) ACK mgmt::proberesp cb The MAC adress 00:23:31:70:a6:d8 is the address of the Wii, so there is clearly some kind of communication going on. But something is still not working. A clue, anyone? The complete output from hostapd is available at ftp://ftp.uddeborg.se/pub/ath5k-ap/hostapd.out and my hostapd configuration at ftp://ftp.uddeborg.se/pub/ath5k-ap/hostapd-ath0.conf I had a very similar setup working some time ago using the madwifi driver. But I can't seem to get it up with tha ath5k driver now. ___ ath5k-users mailing list ath5k-users@lists.ath5k.org https://lists.ath5k.org/mailman/listinfo/ath5k-users
