Yeah, Dotbook, it's a bit thick, but, seeing other braille displays are in 10s rupee range mark, And the DotBook has many builtin applications such as  E-mail, document editor, calculator etc, can directly connect to Bookshare and get books, and You can also get it with a perkins style buttons layout. It Has USB  and wifi so you can connect it to whatever device and get braille output. It is marketed as a Braille laptop. It's better than those expensive models. So, my first instinct about this is also to say it's trolling and move on. It's kind of a weird troll, but many trolls are weird (people asking for others to destroy their computers over NVDARemote). But whether it's a troll or not, I can't make myself move on from the issue entirely because of what I saw in this thread.First, let me start off with the definition for Vandalism. Vandalism is the action involving deliberate destruction of or damage to public or private property. I'm not a lawyer or anyone else who has a good understanding of the law, but I'm pretty sure vandalism doesn't apply if you own the property in question. Maybe this person does not own the property in question, but there's nothing to indicate that in the listing given in post #1. So it's not vandalism.Even if it's not technically vandalism though, it's still wrong, right? I don't think so. It doesn't really matter what it is, if you purchased the item or otherwise obtained it in a manner that makes it legally yours, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. Might it have taken someone a bunch of time to produce it? Sure, but they probably got compinsated for that even if not directly by this person, so the transaction was completed and the person who produced it got payed an amount that they probably decided the work was worth.I also have to give credit to this thread for one thing. It kinda made me laugh a little when people started comparing this to destroying information with the intent to keep people from reading it. It's 2020, you can probably find that information in a million different places. But really, this just underscores the point for me that braille is dying, at least in paper format. If there are so few braille documents in the world that destroying this one is going to keep a child from learning to read braille for whatever reason, maybe they don't need braille in the first place. This is obviously not the case, but people are treating it like this is something many blind people do, just rub out braille and get pleasure out of that. If you're in a developed country, there's probably an organization that can get you a braille display anyways, and then you don't have to deal with all this physical paper copy crap.

Doesn't seem that complicated.Or use mdbook, if you want to make  a book.Not sure what makes Lucia docs special in this case; I read Python references all the time without this issue, but you are right that very large pages perform poorly.  Still, if you're making a page that's actually that big, that's the time to solve this problem, not before.  Most projects won't ever make documentation big enough to hit that problem.

I would have been more than cool with doing hard if I thought it would contribute anything to the listening experience. It doesn't, in fact it probably detracts to some extent.The challenge of this game is really about mastery. Mastery of scrolls, mastery of your characters' individual strengths and weaknesses, mastery of your environment. If you know where all of the hidden Easter eggs are and you know your characters and scrolls well, then the game rewards you in that you really never have to spend time grinding. The hard mode doesn't really make the game more challenging per se, it just makes you spend more time levelling. There is a skill ceiling, and beyond that you are either strong enough to win a fight or you're not. So I guess I feel that the hard mode wasn't really necessary to include and largely doesn't work given the game's mechanics.AT any rate, I have uploaded the first four parts which take you up to the end of the church sanctuary. @9This isn't correct.  If you distribute the html file with the app there's no lag because it's already on their machine.  If you're worried about the HTML file wanting to grab stuff from the internet, just don't include stuff that comes from the internet and it's fine.  It's cross platform, works offline, easy, and is as efficient as the thing you want to do instead.A .chm file doesn't do anything special to the html inside it. It just makes getting the html in there really complicated.  It's still using a browser and everything even.

Okay sorry for the doublepost, but this bug requires its own post.So I finally started making and linking maps for my project, when I found this.Basically I had three maps that I'd finished and went to test them out.I'd left my position on the second map on the transition to the third map when saving it.When I went through the door to the second map, Sable put me on the position I'd last left my character in when saving that map, so she went through it to the third map, but she was stuck inside a wall because the starting posission for the second map was used instead of the starting tile for the third map.I got around it for now by placing her on the starting tile for the second map and everything worked fine, but this really shouldn't be an issue we have to deal with.Later!

I think I am going to really like this game now I know what I'm doing. It just takes practise. Sorry for venting my frustrations on here. I also travelled nearly 1500 in the endless mode.

I am coming at this from the perspective of a blind parent who is trying to promote braille literacy for blind students like my daughter, so, knowing this, what follows may come as no surprise. The fact that someone would be willing to either pay for something like this, or hire out to do something like this, is a slap in the face, and not only for other blind people. It is a personal insult to those who worked so hard to make texts like this available. I would love to say I can't believe this, but nothing is beyond belief any more. Imagine if the various organizations who make these texts available for the blind were to find out about this. There are some terms I would use in reference to what I think about this, but if I used them here I'd be banned so fast that it would go down in the record books. Anyway, who ever it is that is doing this is one very poor representation of the blind community, and I just hope that others don't follow the pathetic example that sets. Thanks to the original poster for sharing the info.

Meh, it's already happening. However, rather than the government or some mysterious unknown "they", it's just corporations and data companies using data collected tailored to your likes and interests, and using it as a lure to follow certain ideologies.   If we were going to take media as an indicator of the future, Shadowrun and Cyber punk themes of corporations owning your existence and actions is far more likely than the government firing mind Control rays into your head from radio towers. A lot of that research done in the CIA experiments for mind control was far too out there and cumbersome to do on a large enough scale. Corporations have already done a good job at essentially knowing everything about us, and have a far easier time controlling our likes and wants. And it's already having an affect on people today. All it takes is one popular social media platform or corporate entity to have long term malicious intentions. And the sad part is that we're happy to hand over our privacy and tools to control and track us.  Everyone's afraid the NSA busting into our conversations, while Facebook has free access to everything we say and think that people give willingly.

You will find, in the end, that it is rare these days to find a web site that doesn't send data to Google etc.  You can do that by just loading a share icon in your site.  Also don't forget that Google services share and that Google search can totally tell what links you click on.  Once you've learned a little about how the web works, you won't be surprised by this anymore, followed by realizing that your blog (should you run one) also ships (unless you don't want to have sharing buttons at all ever, or use analytics to see who's reading).

wxPython is probably the best option for accessible GUI out of the box. There are of course other graphical libraries to choose from, but they are not natively accessible and would require you to hook in screen reader support manually, like Tolk, Universal Speech, Accessible_output2, etc. Though you could also create programs to play things like sounds and such easily enough. If you'd like any examples or specifics, just ask.

Speaking of fetishes, I have seen online where adult, yes sighted adults, that really do enjoy wearing diapers just for the fun of it. Do not ask how I found that out. You really do not want to know how I found that out. Ok ok ok, I came across a news article online that talked about a store that is and or was set up for people that like that kind of thing. At this time, I do not know of any blind person that goes into that kind of thing. On the other hand, I heard of and or seen blind people with other disabilities. I also heard of and or seen blind people that were either gay or straight, very religious, and some that were not religious at all. In short I have seen enough to know that blind people varies just like the sighted and can get quite mean to each other, or do something very kind out of the blue.

Yeah, my issue with written tutorials is mostly the fear that I'll accidentally not cover something important, just because I'm used to  the game and tend to gloss over things that are reasonably obvious to me but might not be for others.I like Lordlundin's idea of some kind of shared gameplay, but it might be a little hard to actually do recording together, if only because of timezones and such. I guess we could do it by game time too, i.e. we each take the database for a game year or two, or five, given how the timescale for things works sometimes. Destroying enemies still isn't working for me. I centre the sound of the enemy and hit the space bar but nothing seems to happen. I am playing the easiest difficulty. I have tried slowing right down when the enemy approaches but it makes no difference. How many hits does it usually take to destroy the enemy? Also, I can't seem to take off in tutorial mode. I am running the Mac version of this game and it is frustrating me because I am obviously missing something quite obvious..

Frankly, I don't find everything listed in post 1 overall too odd. In fact, if there's one thing I criticize the blind community for the most is how fast they condemn others for certain actions. Showing a sign that they are trying to distance themselves from just interacting with that community, but making it evident that they are extremely green in interacting with society as an overall whole.    Weird actions generally fall under the perception of the viewer, and many cultures, racial groups, fandom groups, and geographical areas have their own weird things that some might find bizarre. I.e.  Rocking: This might be more a mental state problem than a blindness problem. And considering that going visually impaired, especially when once having sight, can be a traumatic and altering experience. I see this also manfesting in people who take an extremely long time to accept using a cane in public, usually after eating one too many metal poles to the face. As well, populations with disabilities tend to have multiple disabilities, and I've met my share of visually impared folk with other disabilities. As well, considering research is being done that recognizes that a lot more people in this world have variations of mental illnesses, especially autism and Aspergers, that I'm not surprised rocking and other behaviors are done by the visually impaired. Not helping that if one is completely blind and not paying attention, they will not realize they're doing it in front of someone.  Speaking like a Synth:  I see this, and raise you people speaking in Clingong in public. People emulate things they have a lot of experience with or enjoy. I see a lot of people speaking and talking a lot like characters from their favorite books, shows and movies. Heck, the sighted community have conventions where these people converge to do this for many days straight. Now, considering many people with visual impairments use text to speech software for phones, computers and media players, the one thing they come into contact with are speech synths. And there are entire communities that help develop and create new ones. So, amongst blind friends, this might be something that come up, just like how Star Treck fans may speak in Clingong if into that faction, or another group might emulate the speech patterns from a favorite abridged series. Check the Youtube comments on a lot of videos of such series, and see this in action at least in text. I think the Speech synth talking can be classified as enjoying a blindness related meme.    ...Also there's now a growing group of sighted folk now emulating hilariously the same vocal oddities synths have due to a growing popularity of Ask reddit videos that usually have Microsoft Dave and friends reading out reddit threads. Hilarity occurs with a combination of profanity filters and tTS screw ups like making no come out as number.   Poking Self in Eye:  This one is understandable, and hard to break for people. Not just with eyes, but anyone who's lost function of a body part. Spend time with an amputee, and notice their hands sometime go to where a limb used to be. Or where a non-functioning arm lays limply to their side. It seems liek an instinctual thing to do for people when the body doesn't know the status of itself. Though possible to break out of if brought up, just like someone who picks their nose.   the visually impaired community seems to be prone to quickly condemning others for actions and habits that are odd, ignoring the myriad of freakishly weird habits, fettishes and customs of the entire world. Though, not surprised either. minority communities seem to condemn their own members far harsher than any other group, as sort of a method of representation in society. Kind of dumb though, since humans are aready prone to stereotyping, and such things will be constant even if 99% of the group don't do said actions anymore. People do not generally interact with minorities in a constant bases, and all they have to go by are long living or long outdated stereotypes.  I.e:  Insert thousandth time Jews are considered greedy money-focused paracites, or that every single Latino male is a rapist murderer in the making.    To the original concern of that ad. Meh, I've seen weirder. People do realize if you have a braile embosser or printer at hand, you can easily fulfill this request and then scratch out the braile to earn a quick buck. This is like crying about someone smashing an i-phone by throwing it off the roof of a building to check durability. Or buying used underwear as someone posted before. If the person buys something, and the other party agrees to sell it, and no one is harmed in the process, what's wrong with that? Frankly, that got some attention because oh, look a blind person is doing something weird again. I just think that if you find this weird, you have a lot to learn about other social groups. It's almost playable, you just have to toggle all the speech settings on and remember that tab switches between interacting in the game and chatting. Unfortunately there's no way to tell which window you're in until you type something in. The game needs more work to become accessible and I honestly wish there was a way to play the game through telnet or a MUD client.

Another interesting part about these days, is that matters are so black and white. Why exactly do people either have to say they completely accept something and it's fine, or condemn it utterly and it be the worst thing ever. Imagine someone having a very loud and continuous telephone conversation on a mobile phone on a bus or train. This is not an "immoral!" action, they aren't harming anyone or indulging in some terrible practice, equally however, they are being less than considerate to their fellow passengers, and likely would be bloody annoying to be around. so, why does this person's fettish for erasing braille have to either be "wrong! with a capital "bad",  absolutely, complete and totally okay either. Myself, I'd say it is vandalism at the least, and the person involved is being a bit of an idiot, but on the other hand, as long as it's braille that nobody actually wants to read, EG last years newspaper or a circula letter or something, then the person isn't exactly harming anyone by indulging either. If however the person wanted to erase braille in a bradberry esque sense to stop people from reading it, now that of course would be another matter entirely.

Update:I got started on recording a play through this afternoon, but after getting a short ways in I decided to start over on normal.The reason is that hard mode just makes you spend a lot of time grinding, and to be honest it would be less interesting to listen to as I would have to keep at least a five level lead on what I would need on normal difficulty just to keep the fights mathematically winnable.

thats what is wrong with this game. you have an issue because the client controls the weapon, as far as i know everything about it. so for example, you can log in and if you use to have a machinegun with 100 ammo and 500 clips, you could log in now with a grenade launcher siht 100 bullets and 500 clips. Thats the issue with client side weapon systems.

Just wanna make sure if everyone understood me as I wanted to put things into place:I do not say that command line is bad for git or something, I use it daily myself, it's just VSCode really helps when you need for instance to merge master into current branch. GIT integration is fantastic, because you can use ctrl+p shortcut and type command starting with keyword git, for instance git stash and you will get suggestions like git apply stash, git pop stash, git apply latest stash, git drop stash and so on... Also when you need to read bunch of commits to find something particular, you can use git Lense extension which shows all the commits in treview. Source control has it's own treeview inwhich you can see indexed files, untracked files and other changes (non-staged changes). Here you can stage / unstage changes by choosing a right file or just by pressing one button add to indexed changes all the files that were detected to be edited. In the same place you can type a commit message and click commit button to commit your new feature / merge into current. In my job there are situations when I need to change some files, get the result and undoo some of them as they were before I touched them, and some of them should be left as the last edited, so VSCode remembers it for me and it even lets to use keyboard shortcuts to navigate through the edited places within file among last commit to help you fix conflicts. Also copy commit message is really useful to me, because since we use Jira and add task numbers on each commit, I can move into particular line of code, copy commit message, then go to the particullar task by using it's number and see what was changed and why in a great detail, what I want to say is that sighted people use anotations that way, so why not us, especially when now it's possible.There are useful auto-indent formatters, I work with xml files a lot so it is really useful when I get xml file as a one long line, to properly convert it into something really readable, the same story is with json when I write an integration with suppliers / sellers API, it just formats it properly. There are extensions that let to get the list of methods in file and quickly search among them if needed, also refactoring capabilities (Didn't test it normally yet).If you don't want to see long lines of comments, you can use code folding to the acceptable level and browse through it quickly. Also extensions help to write a proper code documentation according to standards, intellisence works as well, debugger could be a bit better, but I didn't see any better than that, because debug consoll just works, it shows variables as like in a treeview, lets to copy variable's value or _expression_ (the path that reflects how to reach that particullar value).

one of the positives of MUDs that actually suggest the big good ones will survive is that they require very little support in the way of cash. the big and bold games mentioned above, which I admit freely will always catch the market over MUDs also have to. MUDs only need a little bit of income or support to be considered a success as their creation and maintenance are so light. The bigger the game, the more imperative that it succeed well. MUDs have a very high fail rate, but so too do mainstream MMO games which must make a whole lot of money very quickly and very consistently to thrive. the bigger and more elaborate the game, the more support and staff you need to run or even if it is a one-and-done project, produce the thing. MUDs are going for the smaller market and don't have to draw the big one. As mentioned in the previous post, this is partly why so many are created, and also why so many fail. MUDs don't need the big market share, and they know they are niche games if they're smart. The thing is, niches never quite disappear. Ther are folks still playing that god-awful D 2nd edition out there and people who loved 4e as well even though tose were largely disliked in comparison to others. The MUD niche will remain, it just will never be the dominant form again. The best MUDs will be able to hold their position in that.That said, of the MUDs on the top 20 in the Mud Connector last time I checked, only like the top 6 had a lot of player activity and Alteraeon was by far the most active.

I've still been plugging away at mine, though being in touch with a guy who writes MU* addon code gives me a fairly okay grasp on things code wise. I'll paraphrase here but...Not everyone who starts a MU* has time to devote to it, with work and life. Not everyone can deal with internal game politics from players or game staff, not everyone can make a game people want to play, and not every MU* idea works.People get burned out on games.That, coming from somebody who writes code for MU* as add in to a game /before/ you start making it.There's some great codebases out there if you're willing to go off the Diku/Merc/Circle/Penn/Tiny track, or put in the time and effort to make it work, butnot everyone has the time, dedication or know how to get a game up and going and keep at it and keep up with what players want.I forgot who said it and on what game, but...Players don't know what they want on a game. You can make a great game in your own head and to yourself but if players don't want it you'll either have constant bitching or players leaving en masse

@8My understanding with Project Bob is that the owner kind of went weird and all grr my code mine mine mine at the same time as he went I'm not interested.  That seems to be a not uncommon creator thing in general--it's what also killed Dark Legacy, and I've seen it a lot outside of muds (and programming) too.@9New muds get tried because muds are easy from the technical perspective.  When you're new to programming or you don't have a lot of time and you're the sort that wants to do a project irregardless of whether or not anyone cares about it, running a mud is actually literally easier than setting up a web site.  Coding for it is a new story of course, but actually getting it going and building is just about the easiest thing you can do, and with respect to rewarding things for a lot of people the reward is that they've done it.@10Your examples of retro videogames are flawed.  To pick an example from my childhood, A Link To The Past is more complex gameplay-wise than any mud I've ever heard of.  Also many of those series get people playing the older games by releasing new ones.But it's also flawed in that muds never reached tens of millions of people.  People don't usually go in for the old over the new without reason.  Some will.  But a lot of what counts there is nostalgia or whatever other word you want to use, where you grew up with it.  And sure, people grew up with muds, but by the time the internet was in every home muds were no longer anywhere near their peak, and the NES/SNES got to reach people way before the internet.  When you have 10 million or really even 100 million people with exposure, even 1% of 1% is a market.Will someone be running muds for a good while, sure.  But the third thing that knocks this down is that muds are online.  Got to have enough people or it's not worth playing.  Muds maybe reached 10 people at peak.  There aren't enough people for there to be inertia.  We've already seen consolidation, and we'll probably see more of that over the next 5 to 10 years.  At that point the number of active muds is small enough that you'll be effectively relying on 40 or 50 people at most, and another grr mine like Project Bob, or someone dying, or someone walking away and not wanting to deal with it, getting frustrated, getting struck by lightning, having the server get fried...well.  Once there's no diversity it only takes a few of those and then there's none at all.And yes, there's a lot of indie games and stuff that are like the old games, but the thing is that even when they emulate the gameplay style they usually don't emulate the graphics.  It's a modernized oldschool experience usually.  And that oldschool experience they're emulating was already way ahead of muds even back then.

Same for me, I won't be arguing further since it's pointless. I will only tell you that could have and should have are two different things, and when someone tells you that you could do something, it is by no means an obligation to do that, nor is that someone feeling entitled to anything.Your forum, your rules. Aaron nicely explained in his first post of the topic we are talking about that on some other forums, you can easily find out whether someone has any warnings as that can be listed in their profile. This is impossible here due to the fact it needs the presence of webmasters, thus the logic of the warnings being listed in the first post.

also, in regards to MUDS going out of style. I'm pretty sure some will always remain of the good ones. This is simply because although there are bigger and better, that doesn't mean that people drop off the old and technologically old-style.Think of how popular many of the old Nintendo classic are, even today. The original Super Mario Bros, Mario Bros 3, Super Mario world, old kirby titles, clasic Legend of Zelda, megaman stuff from the old days, and all those that came out when I was very little are as popular today as they ever were. I'm not even referring to the modern versions of the franchise. I know people who can sit down with one of those old classics and have a good time even though games on cellphones now are far more complex and better quality.Also, a lot of video games, even in the mainstream are not being released with massive graphics or complex. 1001 spikes is something the regular NES could've handled in terms of software and hardware even though that game is only about a decade old and games really stopped being made for the NES 25 years ago. A lot of other games go for the old asthetic and gameplay style, again, even in mainstream sighted games.And I also know quite a few who play Muds who see perfectly, they are an oasis of good gameplay for the blind in many ways, but MUDs and games made specifically for the blind are not one and the same yet. The biggest and best doesn't always draw everyone, even if they can play it and there will always be a place for simpler, more basic games. MUDs that are abandoned as it was put above might have unfriendly player bases, might not update enough and have enough stuff to keep the playerbase interested, or simply might not have anything that sets them apart to make them enjoyable enough. A lot of people make MUDs that are just clones of other systems and don't really do anything special with them. In many cases, potential players will notice this and gravitate towards the games that actually do something innovative, have a fun player base, or are active enough in updates and events to keep them busy. I think things like Legend, Cosmic Rage, and Alteraeon aren't going anywhere for quite some time, even when stuff does come out, because there will always be a market for those types of games. They are active, have nice player bases, (I know some have said different for Cosmic rage but all my experiences have been very positive.) they are all very active with new content and things to do, and they have a nice assortment of activities to do with more being added periodically for more fun. I've heard a lot of stuff on Cosmic Rage isn't that unique, but with Cosmic rage being the only game of its type I've played, they are unique and novel to me. I know there are other good Muds out there, but I really like those three, they are very successful, and I think those things I said above are why they are doing well while others are not.
