Re: I don't believe it, rotu is back.
Re: I don't believe it, rotu is back. Ivan, you did well.Sadly, I thought he'd have pulled something of the sort with you sooner or later. The only reason I also joined was because of the potential saw on this game, however, I was totally disgusted by the behaviour shown. To put it bluntly, a few weeks ago, as Ivan had stated, Tunmi said he needed us to take care of the game for him while he had to focus on GC. All well and good, right? Not right.First thing that happens, is that tunmi changes server without warning anyone, which isn't an issue per se. The issue however, is that he changed the server only because he *didn't trust Ivan*And with that said, the question comes up. Why, did you add Ivan in the dev team in the first place if you don't trust him? The response was essentially that he added him only because he thought ivan knew more than him, although he didn't exactly trust him. Not only that, but he had apparently done that after his friends, I don't know who these are and I don't care, told him that Ivan is this, Ivan steals that, usual stuff.I'm not going to go in too much detail, but I just wanted to confirm what Ivan had said earlier. Working with the guy is actually not fun, and certainly, it doesn't benefit the codebase at all.I also would like to clear something up which had came up on the discussion we had.To anyone who may think that Ivan or anyone else had joined the dev team to steal the code, I will say that you're mistaken. There is nothing to gain by leaking and publish such a messy codebase, especially when there are a lot of things to deal with in our lives. The only reason there were people helping was because of the potential this game has, nothing more, nothing less.I'm sorry if it feels like I'm frustrated, but I guarantee I'm not. I'm just disgusted, that's all. Re: Announcing Expanding Known Space from Valiant Galaxy Associates
Re: Announcing Expanding Known Space from Valiant Galaxy Associates Hello there. This is mainly a curiousity than any thing.FAQ wrote:Q. Why do you use recorded speech? A. There's multiple reasons. Aaron had programmed his voiceover script for BGT (available atAaron's personal site) and wanted to use it. Second, SAPI voices, which are the next most common voices used in audio games have issues. The recorded speech offered a reliable voice option that because it is downloaded with the game would work on all systems. Some of our games use a mixture of recorded speech and SAPI, but we've become fond of the recorded speech output.I'm actually curious to know, what are those sapi issues? I'm sure that knowing them will surely help developers in the audiogames community.I've never used sapi much, but certainly knowing about it's issues will greatly help. Thanks in advance for the response. asciimath editor
asciimath editor Hi there. So first of all, I'd like to apologize if the topic is posted in the wrong section, so feel free to move it if it's wrong.I've made an editor which allows you to convert asciimath, which is a language used to write math formulas and arithmetic operations to mathML and display .the output in math ML which is the math that browsers understand and which is the math that sighted people can see, on the browser. So for example, if you would write sqrt(3) and then convert the typed opeation, on the browser you would see the equivalent operation just in a format which sighted people can understand. so if your teacher wants to see the output to which he's used to this will be probably an handy tool. The application actually interfaces to an API which converts the language to mathML, I just built the editor to make it easier. This won't probably be useful to many, however if for example you are at school and you want to display the output of the math operations you've wrote to the teacher, who does not want to bother to learn the language you're using for math (which is my case), it will be useful.Obviously this is a first version made as a weekend project, I just thought it would have been useful. To learn more about asciimath you can head over hereUsing the editor is quite trivialWhen you press enter on the application, you will be in an untitled field, where you can write your math operations. Once done to have the graphical output, press f5. This will open your browser with the proper output if things went correctly. If you're interested feel free to download it hereIf you wish, you can send feedback/suggestions, it would help me a lot. Even because I will be using this thing at school, so you will probably give me an idea to improve it even more. Thanks in advance. Re: Virtual World has been released Hi there guys. So this is an important question I'd like to ask. I think I've raised this question a lot of times privately. But here we go.So, I've been wondering if it would have better converting the game to python, or keep it in BGT since the code is on a stable point and it has a medium size I'd say. The pros for me would be:1. Better error handling. I am running the server on a 512 RAM linux VPS. The server hasn't crashed yet, but if it will, there's no way I will be able to catch the error. With python I can easily log the error, and in a test server I've done that.2. It would probably not consume all of the CPU and RAM of the server.3. I could possibly wrap the protocol to SSL.4. I could use JSON really easily for things I've planned to release5. As much as you guys couldn't care less, I could possibly make the game cross platform and have a linux version too. I'd exclude mac because I have no money.6. The map engine will be probably and I repeat probably modded to support _javascript_ scripting. I am still testing this so I have no clue if this will turn out to be good, or it will be a total failure.7. Email support will be so damn, fucking, easy to handle.cons:1. You guys will have to wait a bit, because obviously the conversion will take time, but if you'd like to support the server and the project feel free to donate.2. The players data is saved in a different format from the new server, so I don't know if the data will be actually converted to the new format or deleted.3. Your maps will have to be converted in the new language if there will be any, which could be JSON or _javascript_. Do you guys think it's worth the time? Do you think this game should continue to stay alive? or, should I just quit developing it?Should I convert it or should I keep it as it is? Feedback is extremely appreciated. Thanks in advance. Virtual World has been released
Virtual World has been released Hi all.I'd like to tell that Virtual World has been released.Virtual world is a 3d multiplayer online game focused on building maps.I've been working on this for a lot and I am glad it has now came to a point of release. This version is a kind of demo. I didn't add a lot of features because a python rewrite is in progress.I'd like to listen to your guys suggestion which hopefully can be implemented in the new version which is in the works. For now though you can enjoy this version. I'll maintain the server and the client, but don't expect big features. Those will be in the python version. If you guys are interested on trying this download the game hereI know I haven't provided many explanations about the game mechanics, but I think the documentation written in the readme should help you in this regard.Hope to see you guys there. And of course, happy building.Special thanks go to my entire beta team which helped me a lot.
