[Audiogames-reflector] Apr-28-2014 GW Micro Expands Its Accessibility Services

2014-05-01 Thread AudioGames.net ForumOff-topic room: Trenton Goldshark

Apr-28-2014 GW Micro Expands Its Accessibility Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEFort Wayne, IN (April 28 2014) – GW Micro (www.gwmicro.com) announced today that it has expanded its services beyond software and hardware for people who are blind or visually impaired. It will now be offering services to organizations who are required to develop, procure, maintain and use electronic and information technology (EIT) that is accessible to people with disabilities. GW Micro’s accessibility services will also be available to any person or organization who is interested in making their websites, documents or software accessible and compliant with Section 508 standards, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), or the internationally recognized Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.Many organizations are required by law to have accessible EIT as mandated by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA. “We continue to see an increasing demand for accessible websites, software, and documents,” said Dan Weirich, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for GW Micro. “There are few companies who have the knowledge and experience to help resolve these issues, and we know GW Micro can fulfill this need.” GW Micro develops and sells a screen reader, Window-Eyes, which makes the computer accessible via speech and Braille to a person who is blind or visually impaired. Weirich noted that GW Micro is the only screen reader company to provide these services. “Many times, organizations will be required to do testing and determine if their website can be accessed by a screen reader user, and since we develop the technology, this is a great fit.”The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) has recommended GW Micro as a Web Accessibility Consultant (WAC). “We are excited to see GW Micro add their expertise to this area of the marketplace,” said Anne Taylor, Director of Access Technology for the NFB. “We have had a long-term relationship with GW Micro and are happy to recommend them to organizations that need to ensure they are compliant.”Parties interested in receiving a free initial consultation can call GW Micro at (260) 489-3671 or email accessibil...@gwmicro.com. [Audiogames-reflector] May-01-2014 Ai Squared and GW Micro Join Forces

2014-05-01 Thread AudioGames.net ForumOff-topic room: Trenton Goldshark

May-01-2014 Ai Squared and GW Micro Join Forces

May-01-2014Manchester, Vermont and Fort Wayne, Indiana (May 1, 2014) - Ai Squared, the maker of ZoomText and sitecues; and GW Micro, the creator of Window-Eyes, have merged into one company. With this merger, the companies will combine their talents to better assist computer users who are blind or visually impaired.ZoomText is the worlds number one screen magnifier and text-to-speech software package that allows people who are visually impaired to use a computer with ease. Window-Eyes is a popular screen reader that enables people who are blind to be fully independent on the computer by translating visual information into speech and/or Braille. Our mission is to provide a full family of computer accessibility solutions for users who are low vision or blind, whether they access digital information via their desktop, the web or their mobile device, said David Wu, CEO of Ai Squared. Earlier this year, we commercially launched sitecues, a product which enables website owners to build accessibility tools right into their websites. Todays merger with GW Micro rounds out our mantra of Weve got accessibility covered - with our combined forces, we can now deliver an even wider range of computer access solutions. The need for assistive technology continues to grow. According to the World Health Organization, over 285 million people in the world are considered visually impaired; 39 million of those are blind, and 246 million have moderate to severe visual impairments. The merger of Ai Squared and GW Micro brings together two companies that offer great solutions for the millions of Microsoft customers around the world who are blind or visually impaired, said Rob Sinclair, Chief Accessibility Officer at Microsoft. We are also delighted that Ai Squared will continue to develop and support the Window-Eyes for Office Offer as many of our customers rely on this screen reading solution to enable access to Windows, Office and other Microsoft products, Sinclair said.Dan Weirich, Co-founder of GW Micro and now Vice President at Ai Squared, said he is thrilled to incorporate Window-Eyes into the Ai Squared product family.“It’s a natural fit,” Weirich said. “Combining our companies will strengthen Ai Squared’s global presence in the assistive technology industry, allowing us to serve even more customers.”Weirich noted that many customers using web and computer accessibility tools inevitably progress further along the visual impairment spectrum during their lifetime. As a result, they will require more advanced assistive technology as their needs change. With the merger, Ai Squared will be in a better position to assist those customers, developing products that provide a seamless transition and user experience as customers adapt to their changing vision.Ai Squared will continue to offer Window-Eyes and its related products as they were previously offered by GW Micro. In addition, a free and fully featured version of Window-Eyes will continue to be available via the Window-Eyes Offer for Users of Microsoft Office as part of the recently announced partnership with Microsoft and GW Micro. The GW Micro team will remain in Indiana as part of the Ai Squared team, which is headquartered in Vermont.About Ai Squared: Ai Squared (www.aisquared.com) has been the worldwide leader in assistive technology solutions for people who are visually impaired for over 20 years. 2014-04-03 Thread AudioGames.net ForumOff-topic room: Trenton Goldshark

Re: screenreader landscape in 2014

Ok, so lets try and break this down a little bit:System Access, Window-Eyes, and Cobra currently do not have touch support. Although, Cobra i hear will be getting Win8 support in the Summer. BTW, if ya remember Screen Power, thats what cobra technically is. And speaking of Cobra, check out their new web site for the USA at:http://baumusa.comAs for applications, the best scripting support in a screen reader right now, is technically! Window-Eyes, because you can use any! language you want. Reason why it hasnt taken off however, is the simple facts that the main GW Apps or scripts are, for the most part, in Visual Basic still, And many! of them, are not as up to date as Jaws ones. When I mean not up to date as frequent, Im talking non GW Micro made App/scripts. To give an example, take the app called
Web Client 2.6, by Jamal Mazrui:http://gwmicro.com/apps/web_client, its an app similar to Research it, with a bit more functionality to it. However! Though anyone can improve it as its open source, no one has decided to update it manualy, the app hasnt been updated since 2011. And still! Foobar 2000 does not work with WE, though the best Winamp support out there, are those Winamp scripts from Jeff B! Same with the Station Playlist ones, if ya want free support. Best Braille display support, is between Jaws For Windos, and Cobra. Same with OCR, as they both do it well in their own ways. Same with Dolphin, though getting it set up, at least before version 14, was a chore I hear, at least in the braille department. As of 14.0 in Supernova from Dolphin as most know, you now have OCR in that proct too,
and for a while now they also had a similar Research It-like feature. Though, its now called Bookshelf, and majorly! rebuilt from the ground up.I mean, ya dont see Research It being able to log in to NFB Newsline via an easy to use interface to grab articles yet...Ok, finally before we totally derail this posting, will Window-Eyes For Office take off? Keep in mind, they are getting guidance from Microsoft here, and all we know from GW, is that WE 9.0 will be getting a true rewrite of its web support, which as we all know, Jaws, NVDA, Supernova, and even Cobra! are more up-to-date with web standards here. So can Microsoft bring GW Micro up to the top once again after so many years?BTW, if you havent listened to the Candid Thoughts on the GW Micro and Microsoft Partnership from Jeremy Curry from Blind Bargains, check it out!PS. I think one other reason why Jaws For Windows is more popular in the scripting department with apps, is thanks to Jim Snow Barger, and that Main Menu series he did, years ago! That was back in 2001/2002 if I do recall.Supernovas scripting language they use, is Lua, and they do have a home to download scripts, just like Window-Eyes does, though Im thinking its mainly for devs.http://www.yourdolphin.com/scripting_index.aspURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=171198#p171198

40 minute mode for nvda!

The following, is originally from derek riemer: Every good screen reader has a demo mode that only allows the user touse the screen reader for a shortened amount of time until they pay foran activation. In this good spirit, I have long thought nvda wasdeserving of a demo mode as well. So, I have gone out myself and made anaddon just for that. Here is the link. Let me know what you think. Definitely getting a nexus, or a Google Play Eddition device, will always be updated with the latest version of Android. And although you can use the Google Keyboard as I do, along with a Bluetooth keyboard, a lot of people prefer the swipe keyboard, which lets you select, cut, copy, and paste text to the clipboard, without needing version 4.3 or later of Android.By the way, make sure to visit the Eyes-Free Bug Tracker:http://code.google.com/p/eyes-free/issues, and make your voice heard if ya find a bug with anything and everything Android and/or Talkback accessibility!URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/vi

2014-03-19 Thread AudioGames.net ForumOff-topic room: Trenton Goldshark

New Window-Eyes Apps For Braille Users And Typpests

For those using Window-Eyes, there are now two apps dealing with braille typing. The first, is Braille Input: http://gwmicro.com/apps/brailleinput, and the second, is Braille Keyboard:http://gwmicro.com/apps/braillekeyboardThe names of each app should give a pretty good clue of what each app does, though the description for each app on their dedicated pages does a nice job of explaining it all. I shall give the braille keyboard a try later on, and share my results with it so far.Catch ya later!URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=169337#p169337

Re: most accessible form of linux without broken accessibility advice need

Yes, that is correct, in being sparse. Sonar, is indeed still in development, at least with its new approach. Prior versions of Sonar, are based off Ubuntu, and Debian, while the newer generation thats being worked on, is based off of manjaro, which is based off of Arch. Manjaro makes it easier for those who want to use arch, and Sonar makes makes it more easier to have a much more up-to-date linux release going. If youd like to try out Arch itself with a talking installer, and a Tutorial created by Kyle, head on over to:http://talkingarch.tk, for info.Arch itself, does indeed work in VMWare without problems, though its best to read the Arch Wiki, linked from the Talking Arch site itself.BTW, Talking Arch, although comes with Speakup built-in, you do still have to ad Speakup Manually, which is detailed in the Audio Tutorial. Arch may be the Linux for @arqmeister,
as he can tailor it to his needs.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=166393#p166393

Re: most accessible form of linux without broken accessibility advice need

If you want to use Orca, the latest stable, which is now at 3.10, your choices are:1. Ubuntu GNOME , though as of this writing, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME eddition is stil in the alpha stage.2. Sonar Manjaro , which again, is in Alpha.3. Fedora 204. Open SUSE5. Kali LinuxAlthough Debian and Vinux have Speakup built-in, they currently still have Orca 3.4.2. When Vinux 5 comes out, once Ubuntu 14.04 is released, Vinux 5 will soon follow. Keep in mind, Vinux doesnt use GNOME.Once Sonar based off Manjaro is released, from now on, as Manjaros based off of arch, Sonar will be a rolling release. And will be the only linux distro with Speech Hub voices built-in, and replace eSpeak, as the default voice.
Speakup will show up in the final build of Sonar manjaro 2014.1. Or, starting in the betas.2.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=166292#p166292 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Another great launcher to check out, is the KK Launcher. Oddly enough, it has an option to create folders, without needing to drag icons on top of each other, which is how ya do it with Apex. Also, if ya have a bluetooth keyboard, apex makes it sing! For example, ctrl-N to pull up notifications, and CTRL-p, to pull up your settings.Though, KK launcher is no slouch with Bluetooth keyboard access either.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=165840#p165840

Re: NV Talk! - NonVisual Desktop Access, On AudioGames.net

Theres honestly, no reason to do so. For example, NVDA, finally now has IAccessible2 support for Libree Office, as ya all know. Open Ofice, still has a little ways to go however. Please see this NVDA Mailing List Post , for more info on that. Of course, Orca on Linux was the 1st to support Libre/Open Office in the 1st place, still using Java of course. As for Mozilla applications, The best support is still, and always will be, under Orca. Yes, NVDAs support is pretty good! under Windows, though not fantastic! For example, Orca still! does not have a browse mode, switch between the two different carets which both work, and the fact you are able to choose the level politeness with live regions, well, whats not to like! And with v3.8.0 and later of Orca, now at 3.10, you are able to bring up
a list of all elements on the web page for a particular item as lists, including paragraphs! If thats not enough, even better that ya can filter the items by typing in the 1st few letters.Even Google Groups! and FB under Firefox with Orca works better, than it does under Windows. I will be making a topic for us users of Orca under GNU/Linux soon, so keep an ear out for that. In the mean time... the add on for Station Playlist Studio , was released recently, so please have a look!URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=164474#p164474

[Audiogames-reflector] Wuala And Bitcasa. Two Fully Accessible Dropbox Replacements!

2014-02-02 Thread AudioGames.net ForumOff-topic room: Trenton Goldshark

Wuala And Bitcasa. Two Fully Accessible Dropbox Replacements!

IntroductionAs we all know, Dropbox, totally not as blind-friendly as they once were back in the day. Still indeed usable, however certainly that context menu does have a terrible time with us blinks, and we all! know which menu that is... And even though you can use the dropbox app via your PC, just like with google drive, it can take up a bit of room on your PC and in the cloud, if you are subscribed to many folders, especially if ya only have between 2/3 GB! And in the case of Dropbox on the web unlike with gDrive, usable, though annoying! In the next two sections, I will give ya a quick overview of the two Dropbox replacements mentioned in this threads title, and in the 3rd section after those two, a special surprise for the AG community! BitcasaUnlike the apps for Google Drive and Dropbox for example, your files arent stored on your computer inside a Windows/File Explorer Dropbox folder. Instead, your files can be
found from within your drives list, thus acting like a network drive. The drive letter, which you can use in the address bar/run dialog box, is normally: I:, where I, stands for the word Infinite. In Windows/File Explorer Bitcasa context menu, you are able to do local actions, such as share links to files, mirror a folder, so you have an alternate copy for backup. The installation of Bitcasa may require the use of a mouse method, either via the pointer or the physical mouse. Once dealt with however, the program itself should be easy-going for ya! For free accounts, you get 5 GB to start out with. You can earn additional Bonus Bits, by doing certain things, like following them on Twitter or liking them on Facebook. The My Bitcasa page, is where you can browse your files via the web, delete them, move them, etc. However, I have not dived in to all of the web side of Bitcasa myself. Of course, yo
u can update your account info too, particularly adding a secret question in the Security section, as you dont have one by default. Ah, and back to those Bonus Bits for a second, on that account page, is where ya can find the page, to get those extra bits!WualaWuala, is a service I just signed up with, and truly, its Dropbox on steroids! And not just because that context menu actually works right... You get 5 GB to start out with, however just like with most services you can get more for frer in some easy way. Two of the biggest things that make Wuala more powerful than dropbox, is that:1. You are able to be apart of different groups, and also find! groups of interest as well.2. Wuala has keyboard shortcuts! For example, ctrl-f8, puts the view in detailed view. Ya may have
to press tab once to make sure you are focused in the treeview of folders or file list. You are also able to copy files from Wuala to Windows/File Explorer, or sync them as well.My Gift And Surprise To You, The AG Community! For those of you interested in checking out Wuala, please take a trip on over to my Wuala Referral Page , and make sure! to copy the promo/referral code you see on my page, in to the Promo Code edit box when you sign up, or ya wont get your extra 1024 MB of space! For those of you interested in checking out Bitcasa, use my Bitcasa Referral Link , and get 1 GB of extra space once ya sign up! ConclusionI hope you enjoy either one or both of these services, and if ya have any questions/comments, sound off here!URL: http://foru

[Audiogames-reflector] vApps: vTurbo and vMouse, from VICT Consultancy

2014-01-23 Thread AudioGames.net ForumOff-topic room: Trenton Goldshark

vApps: vTurbo and vMouse, from "VICT Consultancy"

Introduction Welcome! The following two sections, were written by Paul Warner, creator of VICT Consultancy , to give ya an over view of how vTurbo and vMouse, enhance your NVDA experience. Note, if you have both installed on the same machine together, they are combined, thus called vApps. vTurbo for NVDA vTurbo for NVDA 2.5, produced by VICT Consultancy, is a software application which adds these great new features to NVDA:1. An easy and intuitive way to create application specific settings, voice profiles and Braille profiles2. The ability to save a single NVDA setting or all settings in an NVDA dialogue box to all of your vTurbo profiles with a single command3. The ability to save all settings in an open NVDA dialogue box to a configuration profile with a single command4. Enhanced say-all mode with a sleep timer5. Smart Numlock function6. Automatically maximize all windows7. vTurbo Find stores up to 50 of your most recent text searches in browse mode8. Go to an open window by selecting its name from a list or by typing part of its name using the Find Window feature9. Set up sleep mode for a self-voicing application automatically from a simple menu commandh]Here is what you can do with vTurbo for NVDA!Creating and sorting configuration profilesAlthough NVDA version 2013.3 has introduced the ability to save configuration profiles, vTurbo has retained its own easy method of creating application specific settings, voice profiles and Braille profiles by recording a snapshot of your current settings.Application specific settingsIt is like having a completely different version of NVDA for each of your applications! Customise your favourite synthesizer, voice, document formatting and keyboard settings (amongst others) for a particular application and choose Save Application Settings from vTurbos menu. These settings are automatically loaded into NVDA the next time you launch or switch to that application.vTurbo can also store up to 50 vMouse hotspots for each application.Voice profilesSwitch between your favourite voices with accompanying settings within the same application. Create a voice profile for proof-reading, one for speedy text review, another for stories, another for a foreign language...Braille profilesBraille profiles work the same way as voice profiles but instead let you switch between different Braille translation tables with customised settings. You can also link a voice profile to a Braille profile so that the two load at the same time, an ideal feature for those working with different languages.Enhanced say-all mode with a sleep timervTurbo enhances the new skim reading feature in browse mode by enabling you to repeat a text search during continuous reading and to set a sleep timer so that continuous reading stops after a defined time. Read just textWhatever the current NVDA settings are, you can toggle this mode which switches off all punctuation and other formatting announcements so that all you hear is text. Great for reading articles on the Web.Fast dictionary entryPosition the cursor over a word whose pronunciation you want to change and hit a hotkey. vTurbo pastes that word immediately into the Pattern field of the Add Dictionary Entry dialogue box. No need to go through NVDA is menus and type the word yourself!Smart NumlockInadvertently typing 0t or causing other mayhem when you accidently use the Numpad insert key when Numlock is on is now a thing of the past!Maximize all windowsYou will never have to think about maximizing application windows again!vTurbo FindThis feature automatically saves every search for text you carry out in browse mode and stores up to 50 of the most recent searches in a list which remains even after you close NVDA.Find WindowNo more alt-tabbing through many open windows to find the right one! Simply select the one you want from a pop-up list or type part of its name.Toggle automatic sleep modeNow you dont have to press the sleep mode hotkey every time you launch a self-voicing application like Kurzweil 1000. The Toggle automatic sleep mode menu command sets this up for you.Supported languagesvTurbo supports English, French and Polish. Please note that Polish documentation is not supplied. vMouse for NVDA vMouse for NVDA 1.6, produced by VICT Consultancy, is a software application which makes it easier to use NvDA’s special navigation features and which provides new utilities to help make documents and windows more accessible. Here’s what you can do with vMouse:•get a report of the mouse pointer coordinates•restrict the mouse to the active window•change the mouse speed with function keys•restrict the movement of the mouse and lock it in position•use function keys to set mouse navigation to read by characters, words, lines and paragraphs•navigate with the review cursor using function keys•use object navigation by pressing function keys•route the different cursors to each other using function keys•use the

Re: Help with new skype

To clarify, skype programs that are built around the public API will be still usable. Such as GWC, as its an external Skype program for! Skype, and Miranda NG, since its got Skype chat support through a DLL plugin. For programs, such as Call Recorder, CliSK, etc., those are the ones that you have to worry about. Ah, cant forget the Window-Eyes skype scripts. The Jaws ones, are not effected.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=149863#p149863

Re: number of blind people who have adopted Android and/or own an Android

Hello folks!I just wanted to share the different screen readers, and/or suites that are out there (besides the talkback one,) and a few android specific getting started sites. And speaking of Talkback, if you want to customize the gestures or know what the current ones are, see the Manage Gestures section within talkback settings under Accessibility, which by the way does have a shortcut which I havent actually figured which one it is when I do it. Im still learning bout it!Side Note: Did I say I have a Sero 7 Pro Tablet? More on that later.Screen Readers Besides Talkback1. Yep? Window-eyes is the only screen reader that has a way to make the start screen, like a real start menu, without needing to use that Start Button, or classic shall.Ah, and yes, Jaws does have a lag with version 15. Its like ya need a computer with 3GB or more, unlike NVDA which only requires 512, at least! 2 GB is more! than enough.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=148584#p148584
