Re: A brief history of bgt, needed for homework

@audiogame: True, BGT hasn't been updated in quite some time. However, in this case if it weren't officially abandoned it's more along the lines of vanishing, except not, since people are still using it. It's only officially abandoned if a dev specifically says so.Incidentally, I wonder what this means for the existing Leasey games, I wonder how Windows Defender treats them and if paying customers are instructed on how to deal with adding exceptions to Windows Defender.

Re: A brief history of bgt, needed for homework

Bgt lover, I'd be interested to read your paper you did on programming and any others you have on computers in general,As for bgt, its written in anglescript so maybe a history in that would be better.Another thing you could do papers on is java, it powers a lot of stuff, linux, windows and the ms stuff. There is a book called secret24 about a lot of stuff from ibm to well a few others I have, email me off forum if interested  and I'll send it at you, use the email link on my profile to drop me a mail.

Re: A brief history of bgt, needed for homework

@jack, sorry if I'm missing something, but just how was bgt abandoned a few weeks ago if its been dormant for like 4 years now? Sure, maybe the official announcement of this was made a few weeks ago, but the thing itself was never updated after 2014 I think. And if certain people were getting private versions, then well good for them.

Re: A brief history of bgt, needed for homework

@7, yep, this is definitely true. If I were submit a paper using forum-sourced content I'd be discredited purely on the basis that a forum is not a valid primary, secondary, or tertiary source (and isn't a valid method of research either). Asking questions on a forum is akin to asking others to do the research for you, which is fine for nearly everything, but definitely is frowned upon when your doing a project like this.

In Canada and probably the US too, this would still be frowned upon at a high-school level.

Re: A brief history of bgt, needed for homework

@5: don't werey, this is only, as you native english speakers would call it, high school and, therefore, it doesn't matter too much.Anyway, the bgt part would spawn only afew lines at the end of a work which, mind you, is over four pages of word formatted text, probably eight or more pages if ever printed in braille. the only thing this thing is good for is to provide abit of athmosfere, surprise and what not so to diferentiate from other people who are doing the same topic, if only with abit of curiosity at the end of an already boring thing.

Re: A brief history of bgt, needed for homework

While I think your approach might generate interest, I'd discredit your paper on the basis of being sourced from a forum. So don't follow this style the higher up you get in your education career or you'll lose points. Any one of your sighted peers could write about one of the hundreds of programming languages that exist nowadays because some Ph.D candidate that ran out of ideas just said "I'm going to write a compiler!" But they won't do that because none of these languages are mainstream. Just like those all too familiar blind Ph.D candidates that get their Ph.D's by writing yet another research paper on disability woes.

Re: A brief history of bgt, needed for homework

The first BGT release was Newyears Eve/Day 20102011, let's just call it January 1st since the thing was in beta stages in 2010 all the way up to then. Since BGT was never a 64bit application, the thing was confined to the maximum limits of hardware attainable through a 32bit operating system. It went through 4 major releases and a number of different licensing configurations before becoming free in 2014.Demo: distribution of projects only in their source formLight: allows you to make freeware releasesPro Single: licenses the creation of one commercial game.Pro Unlimited: allows creation of an unlimited amount of commercial games. It was abandoned just a few weeks ago.

A brief history of bgt, needed for homework

Hy!I have to write a paper about the history of programming languages and how did advances in hardware capabilities influence new language/programming paradigm creation.I wrote about punch cards, fortran, cobol, basic and many others including rust, go and swift. As usual, I want to make such papers as less boring as possible, so, since I know that almost anyone would have the same things like me, I want to write something that no sighted person in my class would know about, so I chose bgt.Now to real question...Does anyone know bgt's history, mainly the year of the first release, the maximum hardware configuration and windows version it was designed to run on? if so, can you please post here, I need it for tomorrow.Thank you in advance for what you'll post.
