Re: A bug in IOS 10

Oh, I know hiding the SSID won't stop a determined hacker, I also know that to do the kind of hacking you are describing requires additional software, probably a WiFi packet sniffer or something similar. I'm just looking to stop the casual hacker from finding my network.I do use WPA2 and a strong, randomly generated pass phrase, made up of upper and lower case letters and numbers.I don't use punctuation because some of them can cause problems, depending on the brand of router you are using. So instead of figuring out what works and what doesn't, I just don't use them.I figure that with 62 characters to choose from for each position in the pass phrase, it's plenty strong enough. As proof, according to How Secure is my Password, my pass phrase would take about 38 billion years to find with a brute force attack. That's about three times longer than the universe is old!---Now I feel dumb! It turns out the "Other" in the list of networks calls up a screen where you can enter the network SSID and pass phrase. I thought is was a heading for other options listed below it. Oh well, now I know.I also learned that while installing the update to iOS 10 may be scheduled for between 2 and 4 AM, downloading it can occur any time the phone is idle and connected to WiFi. So I removed the midnight to 6 AM block, since it wouldn't prevent downloading the update. My phone is primarily a phone, I don't use it to play media, I have a Victor Reader Stream for that, and I don't play games on it either, so most of the time it sits idle, and after a week, it still hasn't redownloaded the iOS 10 update.I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way, but if I have to delete the downloaded update file every once in a while, that's far more tolerable than being reminded to install the update every day!

Re: A bug in IOS 10

I do not know why apple removed that feature, but not transmitting your SSID will not really make your network all that much more secure if at all. If I was wanting to connect to your network, I would most likely sit near by and watch to see what networks your devices attempt to connect to along with what networks that is being talked to. It may keep it below the noise of other devices in the room, but I would not depend on that. Plus, your rooter is most likely transmitting stuff all the time to other computer related devices on that network, so sitting outside and weighting to get a radio signal to take apart may not be that much of a challenge. Just something to think about. Oh yes, do not even think about mac addresses. I am pretty sure those can be fooled too. Best bet is WPA 2. Surely apple did not take that away.

Re: A bug in IOS 10

Boy am I really annoyed with Apple now.One of the changes I made to my cable modem / wireless router settings was to turn off proadcasting the network ID.In the past this little trick to better secure my wireless network has never caused a problem because every wireless device had the option to enter the network name if it didn't appear in the list of available networks, which mine wouldn't since that list is filled using broadcasted network IDs.But, Apple, in their infinite wisdom, decided that iOS devices will only be allowed to connect to networks that broadcast their network IDs, even if the device already knows the network name and pass phrase! If it can't find the network ID in a list of networks broadcasting their network ID, it won't even try to connect.I'd like to know who's brilliant idea that was, they deserve to be fired for such stupidity!

The sad thing about the clean installs, you need ITunes for that. I took pretty much all of my music off of my phone in hopes that a known fix comes out before I have to wipe and start from new.

And unfortunately, Apple won't let any kind of file manager that would give you that kind of access into the app store, so your only choice if you really want to look at the iPhone's file system is to hack the phone. When I am ready, I will do an upgrade install of iOS 10, but if I see the memory eating problem, I will consider doing a clean install, can anyone tell me how to do it, preferably without iTunes, if that's possible.

Re: A bug in IOS 10

I checked there and I see nothing that should be taking up that amount of space. This is quite odd. I double check and whatever it is, it is stored in my backups. Add to the madness, some bug like this appears to be around for a while if my google  searches prove anything and I am not too sure how to reproduce this problem. It really would be handy to be able to dig in the filesystem of the IPhone to find out where the problem is…

@NibarHave you tried turning off the new raise to awaken option?I'm not sure where the option is in the settings app, but it's the option that allows the iPhone to awaken when it is picked up.

nibar, Yes, you can turn off Raise To Wake, in Settings under Display and Brightness.  Just toggle it off. While the topic of iOS bugs are being discussed, I came across a voiceover bug that actually has my voiceover  voice locked on Siri Female, Enhanced, no matter what I choose, it uses this voice.    I can select Samantha, Siri Male, Alex, Fred, Tom, it doesn't matter.  It will tell me I have the voice selected, however, it will remain on Siri Female Enhanced.

Re: A bug in IOS 10

Hello,For those of you having these issues, did you do an upgrade from iOS 9 to 10? I am not experiencing any of these issues. I did a complete restore to iOS 10 and installed and configured all my programs from scratch. I'd suggest that everyone do clean installs of major versions of the OS. You may have to configure all your settings again, but I think it's worth it as weird issues like these do not crop up.

Re: A bug in IOS 10

I have some ideas on where it might be going, I really can not prove it seeing that I do not have away that I know of to dig into the file system of IOS. Does anyone know if IExplore is accessible on windows and or mac and rather or not I can get access to the needed file system on the IPhone. I really do not fell like Jail braking the IPhone. Anyway, I will see what it does this week when I am away from my PC. Anyway, it seems like it is caching the apps that it updates and or doing some kind of versioning. Either way, it looks like my best way of solving this problem is by doing a complete restore of the device on a internet connection that has an habbit of dropping out at odd times. Over all, I do not see why it is saying that I have 5.6 gigs of documents and data when  around two weeks ago, I thought that number was alot lower, more like around 2 or 3 gigs. Anyone know on how to file a bug report with apple? As a tip to others who are running IOS 10, you might wish to upd
ate your apps via ITunes. Least ways, when I update the apps on my IPad running IOS 10, I do it via ITunes and have not seen this problem. I first started noticing this problem when i updated the apple IWork sweet via the App store on the IPhone itself. Now days, it seems like a little more of my storeage seems to go away when i sync with ITunes. So, take or leave I guess, but I really would like to report it to apple. I would report via the accessibility address, but this seems more like one that affect more than the ones who need the accessibility options.

Re: A bug in IOS 10

Sounds like a memory leak to me. Although they can happen at any time, bugs like this seem to be more common in major version, x.0, releases. So I usually wait until the new major version has been updated a couple of times, before upgrading myself. Give them time to work the new bugs they've created.

A bug in IOS 10

I found a bug in IOS 10 that I think people need to be aware of. Over the last few weeks, sense upgrading to IOS 10, I have noticed my storeage seems to be disappearing into the void on my IPhone. I went into my storage settings and see nothing that seems to be increasing what so ever. At this point, I don't see where it is going. I found something over here that is talking about it, but I do not know how much of it is correct.
