Sorry to hear about your mother, I hope she's doing alright and eventually makes a full recovery.I personally prefer strategy games, turn-based more than realtime but I like both (tactical battle and sound rts are two examples). I also like managing things like in warsim, which has combat but is also focused on other aspects of running a kingdom. I guess my dream come true scenario would be something like the civilisations games.

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

I personally am a Mainly PC focused gamer, so I apologize in advance if what I’m about to write is either useless, plainly stupid or impossible to affectively implement on mobile devices. Speaking for myself, I’d like to see a 3, or 2 D based game, where you’d control the character, and physically move and interact with the game environment. In my time of playing audio games, both on PC, and briefly on android, I haven’t seen many games set in a modern, or post-apocalyptic setting. I’d like to see a game about survival, building and crafting, think of games like stranded deep, or subnautica as examples. It would also be interesting if there would perhaps be a tower defence, survival based game. For example the player would have a number of minutes to prepare defences, weaponry ETC, before a horde of enemies would come, gradually getting tougher as time goes on. Again, I’m just going to say that I’ve not had much experience with mobile games, nor am I in any way, shape or format familiar with coding, so I don’t know how realistic these ideas would be to implement.

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

Wow. Thanks VERY much for the feedback guys, this is great. I just wanted to address the platform woes people have. Essentially, for the moment - All games will be Android only. This is down to budgetary restraints. The Google Play Store developer license is a one off payment of $25, an Apple Developer license for iPhones is $100 a year rolling and Steam is $100 one off payment. I am looking into itch.io though as well as other services for Windows, Mac and Linux releases. Perhaps these will come later, but I cannot guarantee - it all depends on how well my first few Android game releases go. Think of this as a "testing period" hahaha. Anyway, great to see this feedback, I'll add it to my notes and when I have enough I'll throw a run down of what I have collated here.

Sadly, silver sword even on ios was too hit and miss accessibility wise, and that before the developer threw a right strop and denied he'd be making accessible games ever again, but agreed. what I said about disliking one button, no choice combat also applies to exploration, although I will say path of adventure does a pretty good job.

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

Most of the playable dungeon crawlers I've played on android have been pretty 1 dimensional, and by that i mean that you just need to press a single button to advance, whatever direction that may be, because it really doesnt matter in the end. However, in the dungeons of random adventure roguelike 2, you do get to move around using the 4 main cardinal directions, and even up and down some levels. That definitely makes things more interesting than simply having to press a button to advance, and I would definitely gravitate towards such a game, or one played in the first person view. I really wish we had something like silver sword on android. If there's one game I miss from ios, that would be it.

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

I think part of the reason for the unanimity of opinions here, is partly due to what I said earlier about accessible games leaning towards certain genres. A dungeon crawler would be good, though I'd personally be rather more interested in one with more tactical combat choices, and less emphasis on simply minimaxing equipment, likewise something which actually used the text to describe the environment, combat and monsters in an atmospheric way, not just a variant of "you encounter a goblin, you hit the goblin for 5 damage, the goblin hits you for 3 damage, you use fireball, the goblin takes 10 damage, you win." Thus far, in purely dungeon crawl terms, with both graphical mainstream rpgs from gauntlet to zelda inaccessible, and rogulelikes being severely difficult to impossible to play, the choices have either been dungeons in browser mmorpgs (which tend to be one click combat affairs), or interactive fiction games which are very heavy on the "stuff dwarf with spongecake" type of logic puzzles, but far less on the tactical combat and exploration. I'd also obviously prefer myself if Pc was also considered as a platform, since I don't personally have access to android at the moment.

I like it to be interactive. I'd rather play a not turn based game on android, and i'm a big fan of fps games. Well we never had an action fps game that the player would fight as the other mainstream games handle fighting. Of course a stelfy fps game like sniper ghost warrior is possible to implement on android with audio queues that help us find the target and blow their heads off. Please don't bring up a blind legend because it's not what I'm talking about

dungeon crawll will be awesome honestly. secondly I really would like to see a farming game, but let's just focus with something that everyone want to see more. For dungeon crawller, I love the idea of grim quest or town of stone where you raid/explore a dungeon, then return and manage your loot, where you can sell them, use as a crafting material or donate them to the city to expand so you can get more serfices. a farming mechanic could be inserted here too, where you can have a plot of land to grow plants and use these plants as a crafting material too. but that might be too much to ask lol.For battle side of things, yeah I agree tactical battle will be cool, but sometimes I just would like to slay stuff without thinking way too much, this usually happend when I am outside.and yes, lastly, make it adictive as much as you can ahaha, love them adicting games

Classic turn-based RPG like Final Fantasy, Dragon warrior, Pokemon, Robotrek, or even Legend of Legaia.I haven't noticed many games with the Robotrek or Legaia fight style which can make fighting more interesting.

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

Trinity, a dungeon crawler with text output would be pretty easy to create. I have created various text adventures in the past (for hobby purposes). I'm honestly surprised that a lot of these games haven't had accessible versions... Perhaps a dungeon crawler with some strategy combat will be the next game. I'll wait for a bit more feedback (and I'm still working on getting my other game as accessible as possible at the moment). The other game wasn't built to be accessible, but it's getting a lot better than it was (drg will attest I'm sure). But the next game will be built with accessibility in mind!

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

One thing we really dont have many of on android that is accessible are first person dungeon crawlers. What immediately comes to mind is oubliette, but even that isnt accessible. The kind of game I'm thinking of has you exploring dungeons in such a way that you could turn to face in all 4 directions and travel down some levels working your way towards a goal, like a boss. Combat would be turn-based, and outside of dungeons, you would use a menu system to do things in town like accept quests, buy gear and potions or talk to people and craft items. An example game with such gameplay would be shining in the darkness on sega genesis/megadrive. I really feel like such a game could be made playable if only we had a way to know if there were stairs, chests, open exits, and if the text was readable with a screen reader. Thanks again for taking our feedback. Really, it is appreciated.

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really didn't mean any offence when I lumped you all in one big gamer category. It was more of a "what functionality haven't you already used in a game that you would like to use" kinda question. However, there is some great feedback to work with in here already! Which is awesome. And I will say, that ironically, from you guys saying "Hey! We aren't some kinda borg thing", then going on to state what you would like to see. There actually is a loose kinda "theme" between most of the suggestions anyway, so you proved yourselves wrong hahaha. So that's good as well, because it gives me something to start with.I don't have much more to add right now but I am collating these messages into bullet points which I can refer to, that way I can work out the quote un-quote ideal way of creating something fun. Many thanks Dark, Gakin, drg (as always haha), singing butterfly, mayana and trinity!Keep the ideas coming and I will work on a general idea.

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

As Mayana said, Blind/VI gamers are not the borg, and there is probably someone who will be interested in pretty much any genre, especially as the number of accessible games is shockingly small as compared to the number of inaccessible ones. However, i will say in the past, what we have had a preponderance of are either text versions of traditional card/board/puzzle games, or arcade audiogames that usually default to a "here and react principle, EG space invaders games that involve hearing an enemy ship on the right or left of the stereo field, centering and blasting it asap. things have started to even out slightly more with more games produced, however odds are accept for the above mentioned, there probably aren't any over saturated genres of audiogames out there, so even if you decided to create a game in a genre that I personally was less a fan of, such as sports management or racing, it would not be a bad thing for the community in general.Okay, that is the  universal and community minded bit over and done with, now I am speaking purely as a self motivated individual . personally, the things I love most in games are exploration, be that physical of space or tactical of a large world and set of environments, story and atmosphere, be that audio, music or well written text, and game play that is focused on making on the spot decisions based on game mechanics rather than either instant reactions, or heavy use of pre-scenario strategy (I prefer battles that are won with good tactics, not just wearing the right equipment or building the right units). I also like games that offer a large amount of possibility in gameplay for self improvement over time, be that long and complex stories, or progressive achievements, indeed I'm personally more a fan of detailed single player games than multiplayer, for all I have sometimes played multiplayer games for their single player content.Genre wise, rpg would be my first choice, and I'd give   my eye teeth to play something like final fantasy, xenogears, dark souls or the like, but I've also played a lot of other games in genres that I've greatly enjoyed, from economic and military strategy to good old arcade classics, so long as the mechanics are good. Btw, with my level of vision, I actually played a lot of old 16 bit era titles, but 3d graphics aren't good for me, and of course not being able to read text, choices were limited, still I do miss games like the mega man and metroid series.

i'd love to have access to a good ccg to play on mobile. recently slay the spire became playable on windows due to a mod and a few other programs running at the same time, and there's nothing like it on mobile.if cards of yore gets funded on kickstarter it'll be the first, but it isn't looking like it will.other games i'd really find interesting:a 1 vs 1 fighting turn based game with interactable objects, there were two old text wrestling games for ms dos i loved to play, i think one of them was called piledriver.i also love rpgs like muds, with dungeons, or peraps a roguelike.also a match three game like candy crush.

I'm all in with Trinity although I only have an iPhone at the moment. I also like sports games like The Show and before long Madden as well because of the souped up audio and sliders and stuff. I suppose that'd require licensing or something, but... Top down RPGs with slaying and claiming are awesome. hth

Just like with any group of humans, there is going to be a lot of variation here. Us VI folks aren't a hive mind, for better or worse. But fortunately, this also means that whatever you decide to make in the end, someone is going to want to play it.I am a fan of story-driven games. If the story is good enough, I'll manage almost any kind of gameplay. Especially if it's the kind of story that makes you think even long after you've closed the game.I also like puzzles that require logical thinking to solve. Though unfortunately, me liking them does not mean I am all that good at them. But ... a good shooter wouldn't be half bad, either!

Re: Blind and partially sighted peeps, whatcha wanna see in a game?

I love story rich RPGs with a deep combat system that makes you plan your attacks strategically. Since I have been a console gamer from way back in the 90s, I have always wanted to play those types of games and fully enjoy the stories they tell, but couldnt because I couldn't see. I did manage to play a lot of the main pokemon games because they had enough audio cues, and I had my brother on hand to read the story text, but it would make me incredibly happy to be able to play a top-down rpg independent of sighted assistance. Even if the cardinal directions lead to different rooms rather than take steps within a room, that's the kinda stuff I enjoy. I also enjoy dungeon crawling sections in my rpgs, with lots of monsters to slay and loot to claim. One more thing I can think of off the top of my head is a roguelike type space game like star jumper, with less emphasis on economy, and more emphasis on exploration, combat, and upgrading of your ship. In fact, it's free now on the playstore if you wish to check it out. I love the 8-bit aesthetics, the game's random encounters for each system within the sectors of the galaxy, all of the achievements and unlockables, it's just a shame it isnt being updated anymore, because it is almost fully accessible, but it's hard to accurately pick what system to travel to because the switches aren't labeled.Anyway, those are the kinds of games I enjoy, specifically on mobile. On consoles I enjoy those types of games, turn-based strategy games, as long as they have enough audio cues and aren't complicated to play. And I enjoy more action oriented games like fighters and beat em ups, but I prefer physical buttons for games like ghost.Hope that helps.
