Re: Closest Thing to World of Warcraft for Totally Blind Players

Well, I would have played Return of the King, and also spend money on this, if the developers didn't blocked me from playing the game. Sadly, they block virtual machines because of cheaters and I just can't figure out Wine. As long as the developers don't care a shit about this, I see no reason to care about the game at all. However, it's great to hear that some people enjoy playing the game...

Re: Closest Thing to World of Warcraft for Totally Blind Players

Personally, I'd say Return Of the King if you don't mind the not 100% perfect translation. It's the closest you'll get when it comes to UI for sure as it's an actual first person realtime game versus a mud or browser experience.

Re: Closest Thing to World of Warcraft for Totally Blind Players

The pets must be a more major thing since my brother used to play, back when he played it was all about the random areas, quests, craft skills and individual dungeons, both raids and solo, of course it might be  he just never mentioned the pets.  I agree though that Alter could do with pets, indeed I'm a little sorry when playing as a druid that the various animals I summon can't be more like companions, able to gain levels and experience, need feeding and taking care of in return for taking care of my character, rather than being generally replaceable cannon fodder.A couple of muds do have pets, but I've not seen one with both pets and extensive areas. Erion  familiars you can both buy and summon, especially for classes like archer that gain experience and fight along side you, and can also be trained and levelled, and classic six dragons (and  apparently days of dragons as well), has a full beast master class which relies  animal companions. Oddly enough, Flexible survival has a lot of this in terms of companions, both things you can make and summon such as friendly mutants, and indeed your own children if you get pregnant who fight along side you, which is pretty cool, though Flexible survival's combat and exploration system is very different from something like Alter or world of warcraft since it's more like a browser game with random encounters and turn based combat, plus of course the theme and setting is miles different.

Hmm, I didn't know [[wow]] had randomly generated areas. Also, it seems that pet collecting is a big deal in [[wow]]. I'd like to see that in Alter Aeon.

Re: Closest Thing to World of Warcraft for Totally Blind Players

There is nothing real time or similar in size, but I have to say Alteraeon is similar in style, if not in scope. Like [[wow]] classes are balanced and themed in style, which is not true for many other muds, also like [[wow]] combat is dynamic with enemies doing different things, and  combat isn't like [[wow]] in that it's not real time third person 3d it does at least have a variety of enemies and enemy attacks that you need to cope with, and stratogies involving player minions. Alteraeon also features a large array of crafting skills that contribute to the game like [[wow]] does, as well as seasonal  and raid bosses, and many frequent area updates. The only major thing [[wow]] has which Alteraeon does not have any of at all is randomly generated areas.Of course, there are a lot of very large, frequently updated muds out there, but games like Aardwolf tend to be a bit too specific on one focus or style of combat and so don't have the diversity, while manifestly games like  Clok or flexible survival have their interests focused elsewhere, as well as not having the diversity in builds or classes, where they have classes at all. The game that might also come close to [[wow]] and does! have randomly generated areas is Materiamagica, but I've not given that one enough of a try to say for certain whether there is enough class diversity, organisation and variation in game activities to count, plus of course Alteraeon has a dynamic soundpack where as mm doesn't.

Closest Thing to World of Warcraft for Totally Blind Players

Out of all the games that are available online, or Muds, or anything accessible, in your opinion, what is the closest thing to World of Warcraft for a totally blind player?I keep hoping [[wow]] will be accessible someday, because so many in my family play it.But til then, just curious what you all think on this topic.
