Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 Unfortunately, a couple of the more accessible file permissions repair tools require booting in safe mode... and as good as I am with computers, I am nowhere near good enough to be confident in even messing with that stuff. Thanks... here's hoping I find something. Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 The problem with chkdsk is that as long as the permisions flags are formatted properly, it won't detect screwed up permisions.Unfortunately the only permisions problems I've ever had that I can recall were registry ones.Good luck! I hope you can fix the problem without having to reinstall Windows which is always a pain in the butt. Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 Well, chkdsk hasn't seemed to fix the problem, even though it says that there are no file system problems anymore. Now to find a permissions tool... if this doesn't fix it, then I don't think I ahve any option other than to do a clean install. Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 The repair at startup is automatic, when it finishes it will either continue to launch Windows, or restart the system which will do a normal boot.If that doesn't solve the problem, check Microsoft's web site for a file permissions repair tool. I know they have a tool for fixing registry permissions and believe they have a similar tool for the file system.hth URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=259693#p259693 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 I'm pretty sure it's an automatic process, though your screen reader won't speak while it's running. Pick a time when you'll be gone for an hour or two, and have it fix the problems while you're away. Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 Ok. so it turns out that when I run chkdsk with the /f command to fix the file system problems, it can't be done right then because my computer is running off that drive. It says I can schedule things to be checked and fixed the next time my computer restarts. My question is, does the process require me to click anything without a screenreader? or is it automated and can I just let it restart and wait for it to finish then boot as normal? Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 Well, I know this problem isn't caused by bad permissions, because I've double checked. I just ran chkdsk and there seems to be a problem with the file system, so hopefully that fixes it. If that doesn't work, I can't think of what else I can do. Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 Bad permissions isn't a symptom of drive failure, so no worries there. Making a copy of your AppData folder and possible exporting your HKCR\Software registry key should get most of your settings. Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 Going to try that next after running both c-cleaner and defraggler with no success. This SSD is actually only a few months old, and I cloned an image of my previous drive to this computer when I repaired it the last time... wondering if there's just a way to back up my programs and settings without anything else to make my reinstall easier, or if it's better just to start completely fresh. A friend of mine said that one possibility was that my antivirus was doing something funky... but even after uninstalling AVG the problem is still happening, unless AVG left behind something nasty whichh I don't want? sigh. this is so frustrating... Re: File writing problems on Windows 7
Re: File writing problems on Windows 7 Well, since it sounds like you've tried just about everything to fix the problem, I was going to suggest that it might be a sign that the drive is starting to fail, but you've also said the problem is showing up on more than one drive. I can only suggest that you try running chkdsk, if you haven't already. That can find corrupted Windows system files, though I'm not sure if it will fix permissions.Just in case, though, if you aren't already (and you really should), you may want to at least back up all of your files, including your custom configuration files for your apps. File writing problems on Windows 7
File writing problems on Windows 7 I've posted this issue before but noone seems to have an answer. Right now, file writing and permissions seems to be an issuue on my computer. I can't update a lot of programs, even the portable ones, no matter which hdd I install them on. Whenever I try and delete certain files like application executables, I get an error that says that I need administrator privaledges and that file acces is denyed. Those problems are tied together... yet I don't know what to do about it. I've tried cleaning programs, running virus scans, everything... even making sure that I have permissions allowed to everyone and not just the administrator. Does anyone have a clue what is going on? the easy solution would be to wipe my installation of windows and start again... but I really, really don't want to do that if I don't have to as I have to download and reinstall all my apps and configure things to the way I had them. Anyone have any tips, at all?
