Flamity Flame

Hello all,This is a small game, called flamity flame. In this game, your goal is to kill a guy named james, all the while being careful not to get shot at yourself. Though the game origionated from a poem on this blog post I can assure you that it is not as horrible as the poem makes it out to be. of course, there's no audio indecation of where james is on the 20 square wide side scrolling grid, but that is no matter; you can track his coordinates, and yours, plus I've included a helpful audio demo that might teach you how to beat the game and hear the... ur... surprise you'll get for winning. Hint: it will play as soon as you win!  So yeah. If any of you actually play and/or try this, great. If you do that, I'll continue developing this. Otherwise, I'll just call this complete and be done with it since it's just a fun little game.Thumbs this post up, or reply or whatever if you like t

Guys,Sorry for the double post.I uploaded a demo that comes with the game. do you use jaws?If so, turn it off before pressing enter on the executable.And what happens when you press left and right?What opperating system are you using?Thanks,Steve.Just had to know so I can see what's going wrong. It works with nvda still running, but jaws has an affect on it. and it works on windows Vista and windows 8... so yeah.Another note. when you finish the game, the best idea is to return to the main menu and hit exit, and then restart the program. the reason is there's a bug because I didn't reset some variables on accident, but am still working it out.

Updated: the program now uses a window rather than just a screen, so you can alt-tab to and away from and back to it, the window will be titled "flamity flame" just like the folder, though. And the keystrokes now only work while focused on the window itself, so you can use your desktop, start menu etc etc while the game is open in the background.

I have one suggestion. While playing, any time you hit a cut scene E.G. you win or you die, you should have to press a specific key, say Esc or Enter, to bypass that scene and return to the menu. Several times, I've been banging on the space bar like there's no tomorrow, only to have the game unexpectedly terminate. I assume I either won or died, no way to know which, then immediately selected Exit from the menu.

Thankyou muhammad for the compliments.I never thought about the cutscene skipping thing... yeah I noticed that as well. I made it to where it will take you to the main menu at the end of the game, and that you could pick an option before the cutscene was over since not everyone wants to hear a 31 second winning scene. However, I have an idea of how working it so that only control and/or enter will skip the scene, though, and will notify all of you when this occurs.

Oh. and one more thing, folks? If you have suggestions, you may put them on the thread. I was already thinking about adding items in the board that you must run over to before the time runs out in order to grab. Some of these will slow james's gun down 100 milliseconds, some will throw you up 10 health, very useful. Just remember, though, it only takes one hit on level 2 to take that away... lol... so that will only be useful if you have 25 health on level 5, and you get that, then you won't die if you get shot once. lols.Also it would be funny, so that james can prevent further killing and hurt to himself, that a bomb be placed that you have to run into the safe zone to avoid in order not to die. Lol, that would add yet another thing to watch out for! What do you think of my ideas?

Since Flamity Flame's just about finished, so I'm updating so frequently, I have this idea:instead of posting every 30 minutes when I add a feature, I will add a link to post one, that allows you to view a list of changes before you download. This way, I won't keep posting, and posting, and posting, and you need only redownload if you like the new feature. But since I'm on this post, I'll go ahead and tell you, I've added 3 types of pop-up items:1. it will increase your health by 102. It will increase your damage a little.3. the unlucky item will teleport james directly to your location. If you're on level 5 and this happens and James shoots, sorry about ya. Guess you should pick up items in earlier levels lol.This means, though, no more 35 second wins *points at myself*, if i want items.  Oh and by the way, the amount of time that an item stays on the board gets sm
 aller the higher up your level is... so yeah. Then again, though, so does the amount of time between spawns.I'll release next update later today when I add in bombs. These bombs will explode starting at 5 seconds after they spawn, going down to 2.5 by level 5. In this time, no matter where you are, you must run to the safe zone. So, Please stay in tune! Change of plans. The reason I posted my post earlier, was because I thought i'd have to do a bunch of updates. However, I've finished the game already--completely! Here are the things in the new update, which is already downloadable at post 1 or 7, whichever you choose. 1. jumping. This is not very useful... though it can be. If you jump past james, he can't shoot. If there's an item and you don't want to get it because you recognize the possible risks, but it's in your way, you can jump over it. Just press up arrow, and walk as you normally would.2. items. I already told you what they did in post 21.3. bombs. When you've come close to killing James, he might place a bomb that will kill you if you don't hurry to the safe zone. This is random, so you might not get one in a few of your levels, and it will only happen once per lev
 el (it's a last ditch effort of James to stop you from killing him).Basically, you hear the voice tell you to look out, then 3 beeps, and then, if you're not in the safe zone, you die. Of course it detonates anyway, but being in the safe zone will make it have no affect.The higher level you are when a bomb occurs, the less time you'll have to get to the safe zone. By level 5, you have less than 3 seconds to get there, no matter if you're all the way at coordinate 20! muhahahahaha!Well... there went your 50 second wins. This game just got a bit harder. I've noticed a few bugs, as follows:1. When James drops a bomb, if you kill him before it goes off, it's still there when the next level starts, and if you don't get to the safe zone, you'll most likely die, haven't tested this though. Any bomb should probably be cleared when you kill James.2. The game time doesn't reset when you start a new game. So if you play two or more games, the time will show the time for all the games during this execution of the program.

@Mike Tan:No... hahahahahahaha. it's cj89!@jaybirdI'll address each bug in order as you put them.1. that actually is not a bug. When you level now, it spawns you back in the safe zone. I forgot to mention that. Nonetheless, it's a miscode. I'm actually going to go ahead and make shooting impossible while a bomb is active so that people won't be put in the safe zone every time--that's what would happen. the bomb would come, you.d finish the kill, and be in the sz on next level when it exploded. But next patch will disable shooting when a bomb is active.2. yes I agree. that was an ignorant mistake on my part. I forgot to reset the time variables when entering main menu... I will also fix that.Once again, thank you all so much for support and reporting and playing this game!
