Re: Future of The Killer?

What does the Activation key purchase do? I bought it and received 500 coins. Is there anything else? Here are a few more suggestions. The soda from the guard tower vending machine should do something. Maybe a can could boost your speed for a minute or so? There should also be a sound when using the soda. Currently, you hear nothing and nothing happens when using the item.Health drinks should restore your health. Maybe they could work a little faster than antibiotics, but they should definitely do something besides nothing.Beer should significantly inhibit your ability to walk around and fight. The only things it appears to do right now are make you fall down, chat random messages, and garble your messages when they're sent. Driving vehicles should be extremely difficult and possibly fatal. You should only be able to have a maximum of 100 or 150 air at a time. I have over 5,000 air and it's ridiculous! You should consider adding a stamina value that reduces your speed, accuracy, and damage if you're using melee weapons like the knife, fists, and sword. Your character will be required to rest a little while to regain strength after engaging in these physically demanding activities.I really love this game! It's incredibly fun and addicting! Keep up the awesome work!

Re: Future of The Killer?

I have not been there, I just know that it is not right to do that. I myself don’t know how to code so I would not be cloning any games. And even if I did know how to code I still will not clone anything. Because what a developer makes is their’s. If I want to make my own game, I have to be willing to put in the work and the time to make it my own idea. Look at all of these developers who make offline games. Honestly, offline games offer more of a selection than those that are online multiplayer games. If people want more of a variety of online games, they themselves need to come up with new ideas and not just use ones other people have used and call it their own

It’s not up to us to make cloned games. Devs put a lot of time and effort into their games. Think about this. I want everyone to put themselves in the shoes of an audio game developer. Let’s just say you made a big project. All of a sudden these clones start showing up on the forum and pretty much anywhere else. How would that make you feel? This is probably part of the reason developers discontinue their products. This is why not many people want to do stuff for the community

to clarify, since I have not gotten answers from ivon either through the e-mail, the question on here, nor in game, about the accounts, I am assuming unless it is updated soon that accounts in terms of payed accounts can not be aqquired at this time, there is no option on his website and no way in game to do so, his admin have also been ignoring me so this is my assumption. This being said you can still make a character and log in and do 99% of the game, you just cant use the auction feature or some few others from what I gather, and if you want extra stuff you gotta donate. otherwise the game is completely playable, I hope this clears things up.Please, Please ivon would you allow people to either purchase the ability or make it available to all? Thanks!

how about when you are going to destroy a shelter; for instance, you cant hit a shelter with a sword; knife; and fists or small guns; you have to only hit with large and destructiv weaponshoww about when a shelter is destroyd; some shelters wood will impact you and take a way some of your health; like; if you destroy a shelter; the wood wll most likely to hit you; and when someone is in a veeicle; how about hitting the window and killing the driver; then the veeicle will get out of control; ha hahow about when you like; stabbd by a sword or stabd  by a melee weapon or shoot; you will be stunnd for a fue seconds because, in our reel lives; we dont have a chance to attack someone really just like most online fps; and that wood make the game cool!then how about body parts? e.g.; when you hit in sertn body parts; sertn things will happen; depending on what place you'v bin hit; if it's the chest; no wornings; no health loss; just die; if it's in the hed; like; 90 percent of your hp will be taken a way; and you will get in seereus shock and trubble: in the foot you'v bin hit; you are unable to move until you die; or get some anty byotic atentionif you are hit in the arms or hand or finer; you will have trubble interacting with objects; items; etcthis is just my thoughts

@redfox, in that case, the administrator providing you with an raw data/source code should have cleared it with Ivan first, and you should have double checked to make sure that had occurred before you accepted the offering.  You were wrong for not checking.  Again, dishonesty damages this entire community.  That being said, developers who are intractable and unwilling to collaborate on massive projects such as this also damage the community.  I actually want to try this game out, but if there is some confusion as to whether it is paid or free, whether creation of new accounts/characters is even possible, etc., I will wait until those issues get sorted out.

@chris, just wanted to point something out, the problem with multiple maps, at least if the travelpoint to said map is on main, is that people can hang around the place where you spawn, stun you, and murderize you and there's nothin you can do about it.Unless you could make a travelpoint's destx, desty, and destz randomize, and not place you in walls or anything, then I could see a map chain for main, but otherwise no!

Re: Future of The Killer?

This is exactly what I am talking about.  Posts 53, 54, and 55 sum up this community in a nutshell.  It's one of the main reasons in my opinion why nothing ever gets done to the potential that it could be.  Instead of focusing on working together and creating, people start bickering.  Redfox, you should have asked permission of Ivan to modify his code, absolutely.  Doing such things behind his back is dishonest.  For that, you were absolutely, unequivocally wrong.  On the flip side, Ivan, you should have at least taken the time to look at the modified code, and if it was an improvement on what you had before, you should have considered implementing it, and possibly considered bringing the people responsible for making the improvements on board, since that lessens your load and allows for collaboration.  Being willing to admit that someone else made an improvement to your code doesn't mean you have to agree with theft or dishonest practices.  By your own account, this game has not been updated in a while because, according to you, there were no new ideas of implementations and additions that could be made, right?  Yet I've seen several awesome ideas in this thread.  Therefore, it stands to reason that if this had been a team effort, if you had been willing to look at what was done, if you had been willing to listen to others, perhaps those ideas could have been implemented before now, and updates would have occurred.  Your unwillingness to work with others and to take advice and/or constructive criticism is where you go wrong.  I suspect that code gets leaked/acquired in this community primarily out of a sense of frustration that once again something has been half-ass built and a desire to improve upon that half-ass creation.  Is it right?  Absolutely not.  Neither side is totally in the right here, but it sums up what happens in this community perfectly.  I'm going to say this:  If this community truly wants an awesome online gaming experience, that experience cannot be coded and maintained by a single developer.  It's unrealistic.  As long as developers in this community insist on flying solo, especially for large, complex projects such as this, we will never have the type of games that are possible.  I respectfully say to those who acquire code dishonestly, stop.  Stop damaging this community and yourselves with acts of theft and disloyalty.  There's nothing respectful or dignified in your actions, and you make it harder for everyone here.  I respectfully say to developers, Stop worrying about who gets the glory.  At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who makes what, or who does what.  You're not going to be drawn and quartered if you don't create your masterpiece all by your lonesome.  Nobody gives a damn.  All we care about is having an awesome game to play.  You're missing the forest for the trees.

Re: Future of The Killer?

I really like the idea of a bigger and more detailed map. Having multiple floors in the buildings would rock! I also agree with the statement that roofs on the buildings aren't high enough. When I fall from the roof of a building, I expect to get a little hurt or die, not fall to the ground and be unscathed..I also think it would be really cool to add multiple city maps or maybe one big map that was for an enemy's compound or just a large building with multiple floors. Maybe add a building map that was on the verge of collapsing. If you hang around in one spot too long, the floor might give way and you fall down, or maybe environmental damage from bombs and other things could make the situation even worse if and when you decide to add environmental damage.

I fully agree with you.jimmy69 wrote:I have a question. If Ivan did sell the source, and just let me say I am not entirely aware of the circumstances, and that code got leaked, why not embrace the development community and all work together on this and make it grate again? No matter how Redfox got the code, why descourage him from making contributions to the game when he could code something new and grate for the game? If a main stream game got leaked, the sighted community would almost immediately have clones  yes, but also many people who just want to make the experience better. So what if Ivan started the code, he said he was abandoning it on the MOTD when it first happened anyway. If people, not just Redfox, want to make well-made contributions to  the game as a whole, why not let them? If one of these people make a truly grate addition, why not let it in?

Ok, I'm just saying, we were given it so we built on it and thought it was generally better then your poorly thrown together main. We fixed some of the problems, made the roofs higher and more realistic, added second floors to a couple buildings, and had more plans. We even added a huge building on the east side that was going to be a huge arena with walls and stuff for cover, and some sniping towers etc. There was even a huge underground system, but you know, excuses excuses, you don't wanta here it cause we don't have a position and wanted to help the game.

Re: Future of The Killer?

Okay, here are a few more ideas before I go to sleep. If players are on the ground and someone else is using a vehicle, it should be possible to run over said players and either injure or kill them. Vehicles should also be able to crash into one another while driving which would damage both and add more realism. It would also be cool if multiple people could control a vehicle at the same time. I'm not sure how hard this would be to do considering you'd have to sync everything server side, but it would be really cool if you wanted to team up and drive around or race in teams of two or three. If someone is driving around in a vehicle, it would be cool to have the opportunity to break in and attempt to steal it. If you kill the driver, you gain sole control of it.

Okay, I've got a question. Why are most attack sounds global? I can hear explosions, shots, and warp boxes being used from the opposite side of the map or even in the store. The siren on the police car can be heard for quite a long time even when it's driving away. I'd expect the sound to gradually fade away with distance, but it doesn't seem to do this very well.i'm glad you're updating the game. It's probably the best FPS and open world game we have.

Re: Future of The Killer?

At Chris, back when you could still build in shelters, my friend and I developed a version of main which basically trippled in size. This took one day and that day Ivan killed the game, and when it came back, I had him look at it. Now, the original version of main is 18k chars in the rawmap, our map was 64k after one day's work, Ivan took about 10 seconds and thought "O this is shit" and just dismissed it. Now if he had let us finish, the map would now be massive, however he didn't and now here we are.

Re: Future of The Killer?

I've said all I'm going to say about this whole source code mess. What you decide to do is up to you, but please don't let this be a reason to discontinue a project with so much potential. Here are a few more ideas you may want toconsider. The aircraft appears to always fly at z coordinate 10. This doesn't make sense. If it can fly, you should be able to go up or down using page up/down.Carrier missiles are awesome! Please add the ability to have them continuously track a player until the item has been delivered, similar to how guided missiles currently operate. Entering coordinates manually can still be an option, but being able to target a specific person would be really helpful when sending items to an ally for example. How do we start auctions? It says the feature is only available for paid users, but there's no way to obtain a paid account anymore. We can buy items, but that's about it. Is this just something that hasn't been changed on the server yet?Speaking of items, is there another way to get the police car item? The only way is to kill a player with the health darts, but this only works once and you get two of them. Once they're destroyed, you're out of luck. I think you should be able to purchase them in the store at a higher cost considering how powerful they are.Team members should be able to follow each other automatically. I think it would be interesting if you could enable an option to have everyone automatically follow the team leader whereever he/she goes. If this was implemented, I also think people on the same team shouldn't be able to hit each other. This would be useful when trying to team up to take out the enemy and avoid friendly fire. This is currently impossible because any player within the damage zone of a weapon is hurt, no matter if it's a friend or foe.I was in the river area and was thinking how cool it would be to find lost treasure or forgotten items buried at the bottom. It might be really interesting to implement a mission where you must sneak through an underwater passageway to infiltrate a base or something cool like that.Keep up the awesome work! I hope this gives you more ideas for expanding the game and its world. You've got something great here, please don't abandon it like so many other great projects have been. I'm thinking about buying some of the donation items to show my support and keep the server running.

I'm not suggesting that I agree with someone stealing someone's code.  I categorically disagree with theft.  What I am suggesting is that something negative such as this could be turned into a positive if people were willing, and that in a community this size, more is served when people work together than when they engage in this back-and-forth bickering that seems to run rampant here.  Quite frankly, I hate the way this community is.  I hate that so many games are started and either never finished, or somewhat completed, only to be abandoned less than 6 months after release.  It seems to me that more teamwork might lessen the repetition of half-developed games, poorly-developed games,  what seems to be developer burnout, and abandoned games that we constantly seem to see.

I have not posted in any of these topics because I try to stay away from drama as best I can.  That being said, I'd like to make one observation here.  I believe strongly that this community should come together and work as a team on projects such as this.  I've posted to that effect in a few threads.  I believe that if devs were to work together, we could come up with something absolutely awesome.  A game such as this is exactly the sort of thing that could be made into something great with teamwork, and given that it's an online game, it would also lessen the load, instead of leaving it all to one developer.  I like the ideas in the original post.  I'm not going to comment on who has who's source code, as I have no direct knowledge regarding that issue.  What I will say is that it seems to me that if someone has the original developer's code, and they make modifications and improvements to that code that make it better, as long as they provide a copy of those modifications to the original developer and they do not try to make any type of monetary profit on the modified code, I see no harm.  In fact, I can see benefits for both the original developer  as well as the community at large.  So all of the people who have this source code, why not get together with the original developer and expand this game into something great?  Ivan, as the original developer, instead of looking at the bad side of someone else having your code, perhaps you could look at it as a chance to work with others and come up with something great.  After all, you by your own admission have stated that no real updates have been made to the game in a while, so if other members of the community are making modifications and improvements, this benefits you as well, as it keeps a game alive that otherwise might have died, just as so many others have.  Therefore, perhaps you should be open to working with the ones who have modified the code, and perhaps together you might create something that will go far beyond what you could have achieved alone.  Given how small this community is, it seems to me that if we want games that last, games that aren't either abandoned in mid development or very shortly after release as so many have been in the past, mayhap we need to change our mentality and be more open to teamwork and collaboration.  At the end of the day, no one really cares who develops a game, who did what, or who gets what credit.  The important thing is that there's a fun, engaging, and vibrant game for the community, right?  I firmly believe that more could get accomplished if people work together instead of expending useless energy engaging in all of the bickering and back and forth that seems to be so prevalent in this community.  If people would work together and spend half of the time coding that they spend engaging in these useless, petty drama fests, I can only imagine the projects that might actually get completed.

Re: Future of The Killer?

That's not the way this works. Just because you get someone's code does not give you the right to invite a bunch of people over and throw the original developer a bone when you finally release it. That's not showing respect to developers. I agree with your idea that we need more teams working on projects though, we just need to do this in a way that's done right. It doesn't matter how the code got released, the respectful thing to do is delete it off your system, even if you just wanted to look at it, it still is not your code, the project is not open source, therefore, to possess that code is to possess stolen intellectual property. The only way that people could work on TK and do it right would be for them to get permission from Ivan to do so, without that permission, it's just trashy. There are no good warm and fuzzy feelings coming from doing this, it's a bad thing and it's rather cut and dry.

Re: Future of The Killer?

@31 fair enough. You're the primary developer of this, so you should have the say over what can and cannot be done. The way I see it is those who have the code are going to have it, and there's not too much you can do now. The best thing to do would be to move on and make sure this mistake doesn't occur in the future. Now, here are a few more thoughts and ideas. Some of the roofs on the buildings are way too low. I was on the roof area of the Super Dome and it was only 11 or 12 feet off the ground? Is this intentional? Speaking of the roof, you should modify the map so that it covers the entire building. Currently, you can jump over the railing and fall down into a room which isn't realistic. I have also noticed that falling from 100 feet doesn't seem to do very much damage or kill you outright. If you fall from that height in real life, you're dead! This should be fixed. Please add a command that tells you where your shelter is. The only thing I can do is type /shelters which tells me how many shelters are on the map. A command to quickly check the exact location would be extremely useful.I hope development continues. There are a lot of great ideas posted by Austen and I. I particularly like random little side activities such as racing or hunting for treasure. The open world has so much potential.

Of course its easy for you guys to say that, but an online game like this doesn't go well. I cant' just say "ok, here's my project I've been working on for 2 years and I hope you have fun with it. Any contributions to the code just send them over. Who cares how you got it." no no no. Its not that easy and will never be. Anyway, please send more ideas, and the reason why the game really hasn't received any updates is because there is really no ideas to put into the game.

Don't repeat the same mistake again and move on.Instead of getting mad at each other, why don't all of you who have the code and can make meaningful changes band together and make this game really awesome? Re: Future of The Killer?

I have a question.

Hi guys.1 I am a little surprised at responses, I am one of the people who played the other day and helped introduce this game, and was also thinking how great a world this game has. That said, the game itself is pvp. pvp means that people who are good at killing will accell and all else will not, or at the very least will suffer because of it. I like the idea of this world being completely 3d, with a vast environment which as of yet does not have an equal. This said the code basehas nothing to do with wanting the game to continue development, I can honestly see things from the original 3d platformer game here, as well as the basic code from a lot o mason's stuff, since it uses the masonasons engine. ALl this aside, I think others should respect the development being done and stop trying to discuss other versions, simply because unless the game is made freesource theres no point in talking about it as it is property worked and maintained by individuals who have put time and effort into it, and who currently hold the ownership to.For development of this game,I aggree with chris, I feel the pbp mode is great however I think long term a game like this needs content to stay alive, otherwise this may be the last truely 3d game we have for another 10 years, just based on the history of audiogames.I think pvp is a great option but story mode and missions with group effort and or side maps with search and rescue or search and destroy bwould be neat, as well as the idea of finding food to keep your team or shelters stocked, invading forces that may or may not pop up, as well as smaller yet fun other things to include into the game, such as civilian vehicles used to race, effects to the environment based on actions such as the previously mentioned destruction of windows, walls etc. I don't think this would be very hard given the fact that from what I can tell this game uses a building code similar to other games with building tiles walls etc, and I don't feel it would be overly complicated to code in temporary changes to these lines, such as adding in a 3x3 grid of fire, broken glass, removing a wall for a burnt tile on z 0 and removing the rest of the wall on the z axis, etc...I also think if development were to continue it could draw in more people to play, I just feel that pvp should be looked at in the end as a great part of the game, however I just think the game as a whole would be more interesting to more people if pvp was not the only thing to focus on.AN idea is recreational activities, like racing, adding in miny games for things like in game pool, air hockey, etc. as well as sky diving, river diving for x recourse or lost item, digging for treasure, building larger structures that may or may not become permenant fixtures, taking supplies to different businesses, etc...THe environment has the potential to become a 3d world rather then a 3d fps, that is more what I like about this game then anything else, dispite the fact that I enjoy the jumping, shooting, hacking and slashing just like anyone else, so I hope others may share they're thoughts in this manner so that development may continue and we may see large community on the game!THose are my thoughts, I hope this game can continue being a fun place to hang out for others.

Re: Future of The Killer?

Guys, seriously? This whole thing is unnecessary. Can we put aside this childish crap and do something constructive? The mainstream isn't really making games for us, yet we're all here turning on each other when we have very little games as it is. I don't know why or how the source code was leaked, and I honestly don't care. If it was accidental, I'm sorry, but it's over and done with, so why constantly bitch about it instead of getting developers to come together and collaborate on making it even better? If no one wants to do that, why not just ignore it and continue making it better from the original source and developer? I want a great game to play, and this one has potential.Missions/quests would rock! I don't know what your overall direction for the game is, but I've got a lot of ideas that would be great to implement. As I said, stealth quests would be great! I've always loved the idea of sneaking around trying to accomplish a specific objective. Maybe you have to sneak into a building and steal something, or destroy your enemy and/or loot from them. I think it would be interesting to take over shelters instead of destroying them, or possibly find a way to capture enemies from a different team and hold them hostage. I'm not sure how feasible all of these are, but I really want a different type of game where you run around, explore, and have interesting puzzles/challenges along the way. The PK is okay, but I wish it wasn't the *only* thing to do.I also think better documentation is in order. I don't know what most of these items do, and it'd be nice to have a central location that tells you. There are descriptions in the store, but they're very vague. Also, is it a bug that bombs, mines, and other items you place are invisible? I've tried placing these items around the map, but I can't locate them and just have to assume they'll trigger when players run into them.Oh, and can I just say again how awesome the world is? I absolutely love! the true 3-d environment. There's a lot of potential there if you can code the ability for players to affect the environment with their weapons and other items. If we've got bombs, why don't they do serious damage to buildings and other nearby structures? You could make hazardous zones that were unstable, put smoke, debris, and shrapnel into the air that would require the gas mask, etc.Like I said, I don't know how many of these are feasible, but I'd like more to do than just kill other players. As with a lot of projects, this has potential, and it makes me really sad to see all this childish whining going on.

Re: Future of The Killer?

So if I decided to somehow go into your computer and steal all your data, or decide that I want to reak into your house because I saw you enter in your door code into the security system its ok? Why? Because well it wasn't that hard, its your fault. Oh no wait it was your security system's fault because I was able to see you enter the code. Sorry. Re: Future of The Killer?

@14 You're still flaunting it, even if you aren't out to wave a red banner and be like oo, I got the TK source. The fact is, you have something you're not meant to have, whatever your intentions are regarding it, that fact remains. Then, you're advertising that you have something you're not meant to have. It would be like a little kid taking a cookie from the cookie jar after mom said no, then just sort of nonchalantly walking by with cookie crumbs on his lips.@11 what kind of paradoxical, contrarian, illogical statement was that even?

In my opinion if a dev was silly enough to store a source code where anyone could get it, it's not the fault of the ones who have it.

Re: Future of The Killer?

moderation:Redfox, just a caution although I will NOT hesitate to take punitive measures if this sort of thing persists. While I can't stop you from making local modifications to source code you shouldn't rightfully have in the first place, I can stop you from posting about it here. As Ivan said, it is or was (waters are rather murky here) his game. Because there was no formal announcement otherwise, in my eyes the rights are his by right unless I'm given plausible proof to the contrary. What you're doing is showing blatant respect to developers on this forum, which will in no way be tolerated. Please consider what you're wanting to do.I have a keen eye on this topic, hopefully the mod hat won't need to be worn again. Please think before you post guys.
