Re: Japanese Games in the Database

I don't have any problems opening Morokuma's original site. I think it has to do with your location, since I've heard of others having the problem. As for controlling midi volume Assault, you have two options:The first is to press f6 within some of the games. I think the only ones this doesn't work on is Tia Story 1 and 2. This modifies everything though, both music and sounds. Basically you get the same affect with the windows volume control.Your second option is to install CoolSoft Virtual Midi Synth, then while it's active, basically if you have a game open, press control alt M to open the mixer and then you can use the up and down arrows to adjust the midi volume.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=178414#p178414

Well, it's up to the moderators. But I think the rpg category has so many entries just in the Japanese category that it should be classified as its own category. Shadow Line and all the menu-driven games by morokuma are all rpgs. We already have a few abstract strategy games similar to audio reverci, so that could technically be filed under board games. I don't actually know about the rpgs yet, since I haven't really played them yet. Re: Japanese Games in the Database

Yeah, I'd like to have them split up into their distinctive genre, but I wanted to make it easier for whoever ends up  putting them in the database so they wouldn't have to create a bunch of new genre categories, like japanese RPG etc. I was thinking it'd be easier this way because then people can just look at the genre, Japanese games, and decide whether or not they want to go through all the trouble of setting up to play. Granted, this way it might drive people off because they'd see Japanese games and go, oh, I don't know any japanese, guess I can't play. But I'm not sure how else to do it, other than maybe putting them in existing categories and putting the note about needing setup at the top of the description instead of at the bottom. As for the Text RPGs, yeah, I suppose I should clarify them a little more. It's just that I don't really consider them what we would call text RPGs, and I've seen too many people get
thrown off by that. They say that they're not really interested in text games. Which is fine, but these seriously barely qualify. They have complete music and sounds, sounds for every technique, highly advanced mechanics that you as of yet only see in mainstream RPGs, etc. It's just hard for me to call them text RPGs and really clarify that they're so much more than the little text RPGs we have in english, like roguelikes or Interactive Fiction RPGs. Some people just see the word text and that's enough to throw them off of the game entirely.I've edited the database entries, hopefully that helps with clarification some.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=178375#p178375

Nicely done, though I think you could clarify on the text rpgs a little.. since at the moment, if I was to read any of the descriptions, they would sound like realtime action rpgs to me. And it might help to put the specific genre in each game... rather than simply Japanese Games. Just a thought. Re: Japanese Games in the Database

Well, I finally decided to stop being lazy and get this done. So here is a good chunk of the japanese games descriptions. I haven't done one yet for Brave of Cloudia since it isn't a complete game yet. There are also some missing, like the 30 or so other games Yukio has created, as well as some other little ones from Morokuma and MM. I haven't done Jango's or Yokojiko's games either, and there are a few little card and word games missing from various places. There's also apparently a roguelike game that I both couldn' get to work, and may not have been able to play anyway since it doesn't have any kind of clipboard output, so maybe someone who actually knows japanese could do a description of that one, as well as a detailed description of Fighting Cores. I didn't do MM's minigame collection either since it isn't hosted on his site anymore.Anyway, here's what I have so far. I know these may not be able to be added to the database just now because of the recent security updates Dark mensioned in another thread, but at least these are out here if someone gets a chance to add them. Feel free to contribute anything I missed.Title: AudioReversi:URL: http://translate.google.com/translate?s … abo.com%2FDownload: http://www.mm-galabo.com/dlc/dlc.php?ur … rsi1.0.exeLicense: FreewareGenre: Japanese GamesDeveloper: Galaxy LaboratoryPlatform: WindowsRelease: 2013Features: Text, Sound, VisualsDescription: Also known as Othello, this is a game that blind and sighted players alike can play. Connor, the 4-level thing you're thinking of is the story mode. This game is not complete, and may not ever be completed. So right now the story mode is very short. Mission center is just a series of unrelated missions you can play through, mostly to unlock new equipment.Aaron, as I said, you can find the Unded game on Yokojiko's site, which can be found in the links section of MM's page.As for Geki Ransen, it should be set to output to clipboard by default, but you may have to mess with settings, I can't remember. ClipCopy would help with this if it's outputting to NVDA.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168605#p168605

Ah, you want third person games then. Well, Shadow Line is a third person game, but you've already said you tried that one. The only side-scrollers in japanese are the bk series, and there's one called Cave of Marvels where the battles are side scrolling. Other than that you have turn-based games, tactical games like ArkWar and Brave of Cloudia, and fighting games like Fighting Cores and Jeki Ransen.Connor, yes there's a story mode. I don't remember the menu structure though. Equip is somewhere on the screen where you select what mode you want to play. There's only like 4 pieces of equipment in the game right now, one for each slot your core can equip.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168390#p168390

In the games of second principal you look at your character from outside. Your character is moving like a figure in chess board or like a child in the street made of marble flags. These are games like Night of Parasite and Bokurano Daybuken 1.I am looking for the action audiogames of the second principal.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168354#p168354

Geki Ransen is on galaxy laboratory, MM's site.Hatyametya is on Yokojiko's website, which you can find in MM's links section. Be warned that it is one of the most difficult games to understand as an english player. It's also somewhat annoying because the attack animations in both it and unded lecaiaerd sistert are incredibly long and there's no way to skip them. You can assume that any game I play has a clipboard  output option, since I do not speak japanese. However, I can write descriptions for every game if you want and send them to someone. Just let me know what I need to do on my end to get this process started and I will get on it as soon as possible. I'm already working on descriptions for the games.Connor, Solitude Battleship is basically just a coordinate based ship-battling simulation. It has a fair amount of dialogue, even for just attacking, but if you don't translate it would be very confusing and probably unplayable.Hanif, you can find most of the games you listed at morokuma's website, along with alternative magic and brave of cloudia. Re: Japanese Games in the Database

Well, I've found someone willing to add the games to the database. However, it will probably be a while before they're up.Glamarama, you're probably looking for games like ArkWar and Solitude Battleship. You can find ArkWar at Comb's homepage. However, be warned that google will not translate it. Google claims the site will try to harm your computer. And it might. I know that MM moved his site because apparently there was a password leak on his old site and someone uploaded a virus of some kind. I think comb's site is on the same server. So I wouldn't recommend downloading ArkWar until new hosting can be found for it. I will also not post the link to Comb's page because I do not want to be responsible for anyone clicking on it and getting infected with something. If you want to try anyway, you can find it under the links section of MM's homepage.Solitude Battleship, Time Gate Forces and a bunch of ArkWar maps, as well as severa
 l other games, can be found at JangoJett's website:http://www13.plala.or.jp/joyplay/Hope that helps.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168159#p168159

Re: Japanese Games in the Database

Hi,Actually now that I think about it, yep, this would actually be really cool. Also, be on the lookout for a news posting. I'm still figuring out what exactly to write about, but Skullgirls and Shadow Line are definitely on the cards. Yes, Skullgirls uses Steam, but it's not about that. It's about the fact that we got a mainstream dev to notice us and listen to us, and rather kindly, I might add. And as for the japanese games, well, I'm going to say this much: I've not been able to beat any of them yet, but even from what I'm playing, they are extremely well designed. I do not say this just because they are different games. I say this, as an audiogamer since 2004, a forum member since 2005, and a totally blind mainstream gamer who grew up in the 90's, that these are quite possibly the best audiogames I've ever seen. Not to sound overdramatic, but if we're going for this sort of style, I shall continue by saying the following
:I say this, to you all now, that, these past few years have seen a changing revolution of audiogaming. We're now looking to the Japanese developers for, it seems, inspiration, and gaining new community ties. I must say that bokurano daiboukenn 3 was quite possibly the most anticipated release in 2013, and all in one night. A trailer gets released to nyanchan's twitter, and a day later the hole game gets released. I don't know how I managed to sleep that night because that trailer was stuck in my head. Then, a few weeks later, shadow rine trial comes along. I enjoyed that a lot. BK3 and shadow rine got popular forum discussions, and I still think that they will be remembered for a long time.Of course, we've seen some weston newcomers this year. In jan/feb 2014, A Dark Room on iOS became fully playable, something I didn't see coming. Then, Skullgirls came along with clipboard support. So, I say this to you all now. It's going to be small
steps, but the future looks quite bright for audiogaming, and if we are lucky we may be seeing another iPhone game coming soon, Audio Defense. I'm also wondering if the japanese devs have anything up their sleeves for this year. As to Steam, well, it will be what it will be, but i'm going to embrace any release that comes from it that could be playable, more so if clipboard support somehow becomes popular. Thus, we live in hope, and I say this one final thought: May gaming reign, may we battle fictional monsters, dragons, etc, may we socialize, and may the light of gaming continuously burn bright... forever! I declare this, 2014, to be the year... of the game!URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=167736#p167736

Japanese Games in the Database

I would really like to see this happen. Several of the japanese gaming sites list our games, and I think this might possibly help tie the two gaming communities together a little closer. It would also advertise the japanese games to those who don't read the forum. These games are fully accessible, fully playable by english players including translating the storylines, and there are many utilities to make your experience much more convenient. If there is noone with database privaleges that can post their own descriptions of the japanese audiogames, I would be happy to write some up for posting, like I did with corruption of champions. Each game would have a link to my guide in the articles room to show people how to get set up with what they wanted. And since there are already games of other languages posted in the database, I think these would fit perfectly. If someone with database privs could let me know if they'd be willing to post, I will get to work on t
he descriptions. This would add around 20 games to the database, 20 very large and very fun games. So I hope someone is willing to take this into consideration.Thanks.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=167661#p167661
