Re: using a loop back mixer with teamtalk

Set your teamtalk to another soundcard. You're looping back your entire soundcard, and if Teamtalk is on the same card then of course everyone is going to hear themselves. If you need to record something then use Teamtalk's native record function.

Wow, I have the Xenyx1622FX, and I hear a buh-chick, buh-chick, buh-chick come through the phone connector when I plug in my Audiotechnica Broadcast stereo headset! I also heard this humming sound at around 200 Hz.I'm having lots of problems getting my signals to go the way I want them to, so I am thinking of swapping it out for a different mixer.

Re: which mixer should i buy for general usage/ Also a soundcard question.

Hi,so, 6 to 8 devices and all of them in stereo makes up to 16 channels already, so you won't end up getting a very cheap mixer which suits your needs.Depending on what you want (subgroups, master, USB interface included or not), I guess you'll end up $300 or higher.I found out that having at least two subgroups which end up being stereo is nice to have two separate mixes, one for you to listen to e.g. your screen reader, TeamTalk and some music, and the master output just sending out what you want to record with your PC, like your mic and your music. That would of course require you to feed all those signals in independently, which is possible with some mixers, like my Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK, which is a multitrack mixer and allows for USB return and therefore offers 6 audio devices to Windows/Mac/Linux which you can handle separately. Thats nice, but won't be necessary for you if all you want to do is just connect that many different devices and mix them up together in a single stereo mix and play that one back to your PC.

Re: which mixer should i buy for general usage/ Also a soundcard question.

Sorry if I'm reviving an old topic, but I was searching for topics about mixers, as I'm currently in the midst of building my pro-audio studio at home. I'm currently looking at getting some studio monitors, which I got to feel at Guitar Centre just last Friday.I have a Behringer Xenyx-1622FX mixer that I got at a pawn shop back in March of this year. It has four phono connectors, so that I can plug in a sound card, which is, incidentally a Behringer UCA222. Are the Yamaha mixers shaped like soundboards, or is it like a small square box? I've seen really tiny mixers that accept four channels, and they are anlogue. The interfaces are small, metallic boxes that are pretty lightweight. The mixer I have right now is a soundboard with twelve channels, a submix, and a main mix fader. When I helped run the soundboard for my high school's musical theatre programme, I used a board from the 1980's that had 32 channels on it. Talk about big! It was right next to the lighting console, located in a small booth in the back of the house. We had lots of external amps and receivers backstage because we had so many passive speakers and wireless microphones and headsets. The mixer I have has a built-in USB interface, but unlike the Scarlet ones, they will only mix down to a single stereo track.I am trying to go into business as a musician and creative artist, and because of COVID, there are some promising funding trends in the music and art industry doing well on-line, which is most likely going to continue, as the world doesn't want to lose musicians and artists to a pandemic. SourceBut once it's safe to go out again, I'd like to do some gigs and live shows.

If you want to record all your inputs simultaneously and mix them on your PC, you'll need a multi-track mixer, which will become much more expensive. Watch out for e.g. one of the Zoom LifeTrak devices.

Re: Does anyone have the Go Xlr microphone mixer?

I was under the impression that the Mini still had the motorized faders, but it turns out not.The main differences are that you don't have all the extra effects like the reverbs, pitch shifting and auto-tune. You also don't have the sampler. Both of those things take up a substantial area of the unit because they have a number of buttons and knobs associated with them, so the mini is physically a lot smaller as a result. However, you still get the basic microphone processing effects - compressor, gate, EQ and all the other features and ports. So, if you know you won't need the extra effects, the Mini is still a great choice and costs considerably less than its big counterpart

Yep, I've been using one for about 2 months now and have been using it pretty much daily, as well as while doing PG13 streams.Someone already asked about this some time ago, I wrote a more detailed explanation here (it's post #2 in case the link doesn't bring you to it directly. But, the TLDR is that the software itself isn't accessible due to the graphical toolkit they're using, but all of the configuration is saved in very easy to read and modify text files so you can configure everything easily even without it. We also have contact with the developers so it's also likely the software will be fixed

Re: Looking for a mixer

You don't separate volumes. You can mod each volume, but everything will be going through to one master track, unless you get creative with REaper. You cannot drive your system output over the wire and record at the same time though, and the recording will be output to one master track in a typical use-case. This means that for recording live, you will definitely need a y-splitter to route your system audio through one of the stereo in's.The volumes are changed via the knobs on the bottom of the board. The mic volume can be adjusted via the smaller gain knobs below the xlr insersions, and the pre-amp knob below that.

Not necessarily, Reaper's for monitoring if you want to do multiple sends. The knobs on the mixer work for that purpose, though you will want to get someone to help you figure out what they are. If you buy one in person at a Guitar Center or other audio gear store, you can probably talk to someone there and ask them what each knob is. Most people get ost in the terminology if they aren't familiar with what stuff means.

What you would do in Reaper is have projects recording that monitor the different outputs (the game and the microphone, for example). But if you plug your computer into one of the stereo channels, and then have a second soundcard play your screen reader, you can get game-audio and microphone audio, and you don't need to change a thing about it.

Besides, if an asio mixer actually costs that much because asio then we've got problems, lol. Software drivers for Asio exist, download the trial of FL Studio and make sure that you set it to install its Asio driver, and you could probably get asio benefits through use of your mixer. Before someone says Asio4all yes, I know, that does exists and is obviously a lighter package, but FL Studio's asio driver does audio handling better, e.g. more of the real deal as it were and it doesn't handle it like a free package would. FL Studio's demo never expires, and even though the d a w itself is not accessible, the asio driver can be used in other d a w's.

Re: Looking for a mixer

@Jack put up the Smoke signal and I came. The q802 has been the mixer I use for all audio recording and streaming on BSG.It has two XLR inputs with optional 48V phantom, and two sets of stereo inputs with channel strips. Each channel strip has a 3 band EQ, gain, and balance. The XLR strips have pre amp and compression as well.It has a real time monitor, analog out and also USB connection. The USB can only be used for one way traffic though, either in or out. There's a bunch of stuff happening on the right side of the board too with RCA connections but I've never used that. I also spilled an entire cup of espresso inside of the mixer during a drunken moment watching UFC, but it's been working for over a year post espresso. There's more stuff the mixer can do, but it isn't anything I have needed to use so I never explored it more, that and the espresso bit above. The stereo ins can be used for your Alexa, phone, whatever, you just need a break out cable(s) for the 1/8 stereo jacks. It is important to realize when they say something like 8 channel input, that actually means 4 stereo inputs. so don't expect all the inputs, divide it by two first.I don't get the issue people have with others hearing everything on your PC, if that is the case then don't send everything on your PC to the mixer, that is simple to do, and built into windows 10. Better yet use VAC and reaper projects to monitor different sources in real time and send them out to different outputs. I was going to buy an ASIO mixer for streams, but then realized I could spend no additional money and just use reaper, that's how I do a voices only stream.I get everything I need out of my Q802, but I also get creative with reaper to make it do what I need it to. That being said, ASIO really is probably the way to go, but you don't have to spend $500 on a mixer unless you are already a paid professional...at least personally I wouldn't pay that for a mixer.

Re: Looking for a mixer

I'm fairly sure the Xenix 502 can't do this. I should know because I was using one for just about 8 years and is what I upgraded from because it wasn't flexible enough for my use case. I was able to get my microphone and system audio mixed and sent to the main input, but for a streaming situation this ment that everyone I was streaming for was hearing themselves. Granted, the 502 is purely analog and had only 1 master input and output needing a seperate interface to get it to a computer, while the Q802 has a built-in uSB interface, but I'm not sure how good that is. If it only exposes a single input and output over USB and relies on the Analog inputs for you to do your mixing, it won't do what you want, but if you get at least 2 inputs and more outputs then it might work.Regarding the GoXLR, this is also why I mentioned the mini which only costs $150 here. It doesn't have the fancy effects but you still get the mic processing and all the USB channels and I think for many people it's more than enough and priced comparably to similar devices. For making the configuration take effect which you asked about a few posts up, you just have to restart the software. Whenever it starts up it reloads the configuration.

Whoa. Sounds great, but that thing is about $500. You could get a Zenix q802 with an Audio Technica or Shure mic and be fine, though if you wanted effects you would need a software fx rack, I'd personally look to Waves if I were you. Considering that Waves Central is now very accessible, I can actually recommend a lot of their plugins. Their hardware modeling is 100% authentic, so it isn't going to sound subpar just because it's software. Quite the opposite in fact.

Re: Looking for a mixer

I bought a GoXLR 2 weeks ago after Talon got one a few months back, because he seemd to like and recommend it. I wanted to write a review about it with an emphasis on accessibility, and I'll still do this to give people detailed information about it and expand on what I'm about to say. But in short, for the person that it was aimed for, it's an excellent device. What I mean by that is the GoXLR is designed for people streaming games on Twitch or YouTube from a computer. So instead of having a ton of physical inputs, either as RCA or 6.3 MM jacks, you get just a single line-in apart from your microphone which can be either XLR or 3.5 MM.However, on-top of these, you get 5 channels over USB which are all exposed as separate audio devices in Windows that you can direct sound to, as well as 2 input devices. These are also available as ASIO if used in a DAW like Reaper. You can root the audio from these channels in any way you wish and assign the 4 faders to any of the channels or your microphone gain to quickly adjust their volume. For your Microphone, the GoXLR has a built-in EQ, compressor, Deesser and noise gate which can help you sound better without buying additional hardware or making you have to run your audeio through software effects. There are 2 models, the regular GoXLR as well as the recently released goXLRMini, the main difference being in addition to everything described, the regular model also has an additional effects processor that can do pitch shifting, reverb, distortion and auto-tune and a sampler which lets you play and record samples quickly using 4 large pads.Software wise, the device itself is all physical buttons and faders. You need the software and drivers, which are Windows only, to use it. This is where you run into the one major annoyance. The GoXLR app was written using the juice UI toolkit, which is famous for being completely inaccessible and whose developers have made a concious effort in not caring about improving the situation. That being said, TC-helicon gaming were extremely helpful here. When Talon bought his GoXLR and discovered the problems and reached out to them on Twitter, they hooked him up with the main software developer. Hopefully, we will see accessibility improvements in the software in the future as from what I know they are investigating things like Tolk to work around the UI problem. In the meantime though, said developer helped us out with figuring out a way to use it.All of the configuration for the GoXLR is stored as plain text in XML files, which can just be edited in any text editor like notepad. This way you can enter in pretty much everything you need (Adjust the compressor, Gate and EQ, set volumes, change audio routing, put the 4 faders in different channels, etc). So even though the software itself isn't accessible, you can still adjust your settings and the workaround of manually editing XML files isn't as bad as some of the software used by other audio interfaces where there's sometimes literarly nothing you can do or use autohotkey scripts that click on mouse coordinates which could break if a window is moved in the wrong place. For your particular use case, you can definitely hook up an echo to the GoXLR via the line-in. For Google, it might be more of a problem because none of the Google home speakers have an audio output on them. So I don't think there's any mixer that would be able to support a Google home, unless you get something like an Android phone with a headphone jack and use that as a fake google home speaker.

Not sure how the last two would work out, but if anyone has any information, please let me know. I really like the look of the Go XLR, but I'm looking for accessibility information on it. To be specific, does any one have one? How is the software? It is buttons as it sounds, or a touch sensative device? Are there any other good options? Thanks for the help.

external PC equalizer or cheap mixer, any recomendations

Hey everyone.A person I know and whom I'm currently helping has set  up a new computer and while doing that got himself a pare of new pc speakers. Problem is that they are a little bassy, or rather, they are mainly base, nothing else. What I'm searching for is something like an external equalizer which you can plug into the Pc and the speakers and set up the low, mid and high frequencys via hardware faders or dials.I checked around a bit, the market seams to be very small coming to those equalizers, most people stick to small and cheap mixers as it seams.I know that there is a software equalizer in windows or as a third party program, but he doesn't want a software EQ and explaining to him how the windows eq would work would take ages. So, any tips on a good equalizer or a cheap mixer? As I said, the only thing it should do is be able to adjust the frequencys of low mid and high sounds.Greetings Moritz.

Re: mixer problem

Hi.The most likely reason I can think of for everything to play in mono is that Windows likes to set new devices to one channel by default. To fix this, do the following:1. Press windows key + r. This will open the run dialog.2. type in mmsys.cpl. This will open your sound settings in control panel.3. Go to the recording tab in the sound dialog.4. Select your mixer in the list of devices.5. Tab  to and press the properties button.6. Go to the advanced tab in the properties dialog.7. There is a combo box in this dialog. You can set the number of channels, bit depth, and sampling rate from here. Change the number of channels from 1 to 2 and press enter to save your changes. If you've tried that and it didn't fix the problem, there may be an issue with the way the mixer is connected to the computer. If the computer is going into the mixer via USB, the above solution should allow you to hear and record in stereo. If you have the computer plugged into one of the channels on the mixer, you will need a y cable. One end should have a 3.5mm male connector, which goes into your computer's line out or headphone jack. The other end should have two quarter inch or RCA male connectors that plug into a stereo channel on your mixer.

Re: python mixer, and if?

Exactly. You have to load the sound into a sound variable. Not nesesarily "sound", could be anything you like. But it's how it works. Then you do the required actions on that variable. Of course you can load a sound and put a .play() after loading the sound and it plays the sound but it's just that. You won't be able to change the volume at all, or do other stuff. You either can load then instantly play, or you can load and instantly change volume. No third level action on the sound can be done without declaring a variable

Hmm, I think pygame.mixer.music.load returns a sound object.Assign it to the variable sound, for example, then call sound.stop().That should stop it.

Hello. So I recently have been learning python, I have got the most basic things, functions, if, and way's to show data. And how to save data to a file. So, I started to make a little text adventure game. it all went well, I even got it to get a message of the day from my website. However I wanted to add sound. So I installed pygame and had a little fiddle. I saw that I could load sound tracks and stop them.So i added a track, but my question is, how would i stop the play back of a sound. am I missing something here?i did.    mixer.music.load("Hiding Your Reality.mp3")    pygame.mixer.music.stop()

I may be years behind the times, but this is a game streaming platform I just discovered. It's accessible, both on the website, and on iPhone.Does anyone use this platform?I was looking for blind gamers streaming games, to see what I could learn about how they actually play on Xbox and the like.I think I found one, but I also found that even if I have no idea what's going on in the game, some of these sighted games are hilarious.I watched a guy play "Harvest Moon: Back to Nature" and he was speaking Spanish. I knew some Spanish twenty years ago, but not now. I watched it for half an hour though, because he was laughing, and singing, and putting his emotions into the game happenings, then laughing about it. I had so much fun!Anyway, here's a topic for anything you know or want to know about Mixer.

Hi,@slj you have to go to the mixer website, sign in with your microsoft account.Next, click "user menu".Then, click broadcast. On that screen there are loads of settings, split up between a broadcast and customize tab. I believe, in the broadcast tab, there is a checkbox that says keep recordings of my previous streams, and once that's enabled, they will be available under the past streams section from the time you next stream.

Re: Mixer vs. Twitch: What's the difference?

Wow. Thanks a lot @pitermach.So, as I understand this. If I wanna stream something only for blind people for example, where accessibility is quite important, because those people I have in mind are not good at web navigation and have never seen a console before, then it will be best to use a direct link to a stream on Mixer? It's important that people can chat to ask questions etc.It turns out that I might be the only blind Xbox gamer here in my country. So I'm having a big demonstration in mind. It would be a shame to do such demonstration, where the users give up because of bad accessibility on the platform.

Re: Mixer vs. Twitch: What's the difference?

The free Twitch account keeps videos for only 3 days or so. You can get a premium plan if you want and keep them for longer, but most people end up just uploading their archives to YouTube, which Twitch can do automatically. As far as comparing them, I can't do much else apart from agreeing with Orin. Mixer has some pretty cool features, like better accessibility and an ultra low latency mode which is nice for user interaction, but Twitch is where the audience's at. And also the terrible accessibility and user experience in general. Both the website and iOS app have major accessibility issues. The website has tons of unlabeled buttons and lags the browser a lot, even if the tab is minimized. Their login page also uses Aria incorrectly which results in screen readers not seeing the log in dialog at all, which is a bit of a major problem. The iOS app is even worse. It works just about enough that you can start a stream, but the watching experience is horrible. The chat is completely inaccessible, every message just shows up as a blank element and you might get a 10% chance VoiceOver will manage to OCR a chat once in a while. The video player is also completely invisible to VoiceOver, so once the player controls to go back, pause and adjust options disappear to get them back you have to turn VO off, tap roughly in the top middle of the screen, turn VO back on and hope you can press whatever button you want before it disappears again.

For those who have an account with Microsoft's Mixer platform and stream from an Xbox One, you can toggle the ability for a viewer to share your controller (basically what Sony has done but I believe working with the same idea as CoPilot).  Haven't tried this out myself but I'm certainly going to look into it to see how things like seeing who is controlling the other end work and whether you can choose who controls it for example.Just thought I'd let those who might be interested know and I'll post any actual information I can find later.
