Re: Azerbaijan and Armenia war So as far as I understand, modern India was founded as a secular republic with the goal of securing the rights of religious minorities (not only muslims but also buddhists, jains, sikhs etc.) It does seem like Modi has been eroding these secular foundations though. It seems to me to be a similar situation to Turkey that was founded as a very secular state by Ataturk, but where Erdogan has been pushing a religious agenda and rolling back those secular reforms.Also, the armenian genocide seems pretty well supported to me. It seems to have been a organised attempt at eradicating them, not just accidental deaths. It wasn't even the first time armenians were targetted, there were major massacres before as well. He was deeply involved in some really ugly "riots" in 2002, which experts now believe were probably motivated from within and used as a publicity stunt to foment hatred of Muslims.2. Modi's government ran on an anti-Pakistan and anti-Muslim platform where it benefited them.3. Modi's government has taken a good deal of funding from things like health care, education and social justice.4. Modi has tried very hard to improve sanitation and infrastructure throughout most of India. Good for him. That's a point in his favour.5. Modi knows better than to be straight-up anti-Muslim or pro-Hindu, but I think the facts speak for themselves. India has a Hindu majority, and most laws and regulations seem to favour them, and the way they live. This means that you can only call India "secular" by getting creative. They're not overtly religious, but I do think religion informs their platform to a considerable extent.So okay. I don't hate Modi like I hate Trump. He's clearly done some good things, or has tried to. But I don't think it's fair to focus on the positive either. And here's why.Pointing out the positive is good. It's nice to hear what a leader is doing well. But focusing on it means that you're not focusing on what a leader could improve.
