When players die do to a bug, administrators and developers are going to be responsible and what they can do for bugged players isn't that much because usually they can't make sure what items the player was holding before their death, and the player can demand whatever they like. Re: Can't connect to STW according to the messages in the STW group, it was a critical bug and they had to shut down the server themselves and wait for sam to come back and fix it. but they still didn't tell us what bug could be that critical.
