Windows sees the drive and is able to read the drive perfectly fine. When I try connecting a 2tb samsung M3 drive, which is also USB 3, I first get an error from fusion that it couldn't be connected to the correct controller, which may cause unusual behaviour, followed by XP complaining about an unrecognized device. Maybe this issue isn't just limited to that one windows VM... Re: Extremely strange Linux issue try typinglsusbin a terminal to see if it sees the device at all. Did you install and load the guest additions? I use virtualbox, so the needed components will be called something different. As a plan b, try to mount your hdd on your host and set it up as a shared folder. Hope this helps.
