If you're also experiencing error code 52, you should download and apply the newest Swamp patch (3.8E I believe) to your game. Did that happen to you? When I changed the key configurations again so that the application said the same thing at the beginning, so it could be for another reason. Has something happened to you? I changed it to Q and set the "say mission" command to mouse1, since I don't need that one very often, and my track pad's left mouse button is unreliable. This makes it unsuitable for gaming. You can still use the trackpad for turning, just not for firing and walking reliably.
