I was frustrated with the inaccessibility of fs2020 because of what Microsoft had said, blind veterans testing ETC, but we suspected this was going to be the case for a while before release. Accessibility, after-all, can mean many things. There is an accessibility menu, with options for low vision, hearing, and so saying it was going to be accessible was very ambiguous.As some of you know, there is already a flight simulation community using fsx and P3d with various addons to fly. It's complex, but fun. Some of these addons, fs tramp for example, have been moved to the new sim as well, but without access to the UI of the sim itself this doesn't really help us. We were hoping that the plane cockpits themselves would be made accessible, but it seems the UI is the first challenge.We had contacted Microsoft and Asobo studios over this for months before, posts on forums, emails ETC. Some had contacts in Microsoft who couldn't find any info on screenreader support. I contacted some high-profile streamers with contacts who promised to get back to me, they didn't. That's the negative side. The positives are that Microsoft have committed to this sim for the next 10 years as a project, so there's time. Covid may have impacted things somewhat, we are unsure, but it would have at least been nice for some communication with us from Microsoft. The sim itself is still maturing, from what I hear the airliners are not really ready, and so it's probably not a bad thing that we wait for these teething problems to be sorted first. Re: microsoft flight simulator 2020 I must say that not seeing accessibility features right after release is a bit disappointing.However, as far as the virus and time constraints because of said virus can have an impact on what will and will not be included in releases.I say this because of personal experience.Judging by the momentum that fs and other sims have gained in the community over these last few years, I would be very surprised if something isn't going to come out in the near future.Depending on the road map that they have for the game and what they have set for the next release, it could take a few releases before it bears fruit.Most companies have to coad as well as QA test to make sure that bugs are being worked out before release and this can take quite some time and I do mean quite some time.I would say that as it stands currently, I'm very optimistic as to something coming out in the future.Having said that, I would not spend money on purchasing the game at this time.However, I do enjoy others playing the game so if anyone can recommend any channels or twich streams of people who regularly play fs and who will be playing fs2020, I'd love to know.I don't mind watching sighted streamers play the game. If a game you want to be accessible isn't, don't review bomb it. Just don't play it. Or if you really want things to happen, advocate for a11y in a different way.Regarding Covid, I honestly don't buy that. Say what you will, but MS is still a $1000 + company. If they want a11y in one of their products, they have the resources to do it. If they say they wanted fs to be accessible, and if there was true meaning behind these words, they would have done it. After all, they were able to finish the entire game regardless of Corona. How is adding a11y different, and why should that one thing in particular be impacted by the Virus, out of everything they completed during the covid times? As things like tlou2 prove. A11y for big projects like these is only possible if you keep it in mind from the beginning. If they had done this, those features should be visible, even if they couldn't finish all of it. If they haven't done anything in this area by the time fs is released, I doubt much more can happen, simply because as we all know, retrofitting for a11y usually isn't an option. Additionally the assistant/copilot AI has some quirks that make it haard to follow real world procedures going by everything I've found however, such as automatically doing things once the APU is started up.Could they add narration support in? Possibly, but the game is in fact accessible. They didn't, far as I can find, come out and promise oh we're going to make it Narrator compatible. I highly doubt that Flight Sim will be fully accessible, so investing in the Xbox version seems like a really bad idea. I prefer the more paid addons the ones that have systems simulation and are very advanced. I made a couple of silly audio recordings, one where I tried to fly normally, another where I took off from the airport, then crashed the plane hard into the ground on the landing gear, not enough to end the sim, just hard landings. The other one I did was a stupid recording of me talking like a redneck while I drain the oil out of the engine of a Cessna 172, err... I forget, it's either the 172, or the 182, I have both. Either way, problems... They're about ridiculous, But I'll include a link to them if anyone has time to kill. The first part of the oil drain thing can be skipped, because it is just me trying to figure out why the oil won't drain, turned out, the simulator was on pause from me alt tabbing out to start the recorder.Here are the flights as an archive for download.
