Re: Might switch to Android LG (even if they do not have the greatest track record on updates), also have special Talkback features exclusive to their devices. For example, the "triple-click-home" feature toggle remains )even though it's a virtual home button), along with the Two-Finger Hold on the "Power Off" screen, which also is a Talkback on/off toggle.Other phones recommended, are from Motorola, Nokia, and any phones part of the Android One Program. An honorable mention, are phones from BLU Products, as I use to own one. Re: Might switch to Android
Re: Might switch to Android There is no lazyness from Samsung, rather Talkback is getting on the boat of implementing multy finger gestures, finally. Not the first or the last thing Samsung convinced Google to implement. Dark screen, better accessibility shortcut, all of those are Samsung inspired. Instead of thanking them for many accessibility revolutions in Android, we call them lazy. Oh yeah, they were also the first to implement face detection in their camera app, back when Google's gallery was completely unusable for Talkback users. Thanks Samsung, it was great using the screen reader, hopefully Talkback learned a few lessons and will adapt many useful new features in Android 11. Re: Might switch to Android never mind about VA honestly, I heard samsung going to remove that and replace it with talkback on the android 11. is this just sheer laziness I don't know, well va is just outdated tb rip off soo, I don't think you should take VA as consideration that much, just go wild on phone with stock android with like 3 or 4 years of supported android update... btw, have you all tried bixby vision though? Re: Might switch to Android
Re: Might switch to Android I would say just pick one, you can't go wrong. Both are very decent options, and if you are certain you want Android, both should be very useful. As someone already said, if you prefer updates, stock Android, go for Pixel. If you prefer the modified version by Samsung which incidentally also includes their own screen reader, go for that. Also, you could always go to a store, try out a device, maybe Samsung, and see how you like it. Listening to Android podcasts is also a good option, you can know what to expect. If you want a similar feel to iOS, Voice assistant on Samsung devices will give you that. If you don't care and are fine with Talkback's angular gestures, which are things like swipe up and then right in one motion to open the local context menu, Talkback is universally built in to almost any device that isn't Samsung. However, if you do go with Samsung, you can always install Talkback as well and switch between the two available screen readers easily. There is also the 3rd party alternative, Commentary screen reader, though you will figure that out later after you get a feel of the device and the default screen reader and whether it is fine and suits your needs. Re: Might switch to Android
Re: Might switch to Android So, from what I gather, there's a definite split between Samsung and Pixel. I don't know which one to get, I do wish there was a definitive answer to this question, as I really do want a phone. And as for Iphone lovers, I'm tired of apple. I've used apple for the majority of my life with phones and things, and I don't care for it much anymore. I just want to know, which one android phone is the best for totally blind accessibility? I don't care if I have to learn to type differently or different gestures. I just want something that:1. Isn't apple.2. Has good voice feedback.3. Has stereo speakers.4. Has decent memory.5. Doesn't cost $1200 or more.Thanks. Re: Might switch to Android
Re: Might switch to Android You cannot make VA run on other phones. You cannot. I tried. It uses Samsung APIs which I can't get my hands on.Edit: Once TalkBack's multi touch is out of beta, I see no advantages to VA. In fact, with it even how it is, I really don't. The screen now actually gets hidden with talkback, not just dimmed, and so many things. The one thing VA still has going for it is sexier hapticks, but that's minor IMO. Re: Might switch to Android
Re: Might switch to Android @3, I thought they did that from the s9 onwards, or at least the plus. Also, if you go for the Samsung route, I would recommend one of the s devices, I have an a50 from 2019 and I can say that it isn't as bright and well as it was when new, the cheapness is starting to come out.I don't say that the a devices are bad, hell I loved my a5(2016), but the newer ones are made of plastic which I can live with I guess, the touch seems to go bad after a while, at least on mine and damn the Exinos variants are slow after a few months and over 200 apps.I wish I could get at least the a70 back then, the Snap dragon in it is something else comparred to my Exinos. Also you can go for Motorola or Xiaomi, other companies I really like these days, one is stock android and fast and the other has a cool software, is cheap and with great specs, see the poco series.Huawei is a good enough obtion if you are sighted, if not, I have no idea how you are gonna get accessibility on one easily.
