Re: Please help me choose a country!

14-hour flights are difficult regardless of whether one has a guide dog or not--I can speak from experience. We talk about a "green Christmas" as opposed to a "white Christmas" as the northern hemisphere knows it.Our landscape varies, but the majority of it is desert which is extremely empty. We have a fair amount of bush as well (which would be known as forest by people elsewhere) where there are animals. There are also other areas, but remember that 90% of people live near the coast.

Re: Please help me choose a country!

From what I've observed it seems Australian culture has the outgoing, extravert thing that the Us does, but perhaps without so much of the insularity I observed when i was over there, a friend of mine loved it and didn't want to come back. then again I've never been to Australia myself, just known people who did go and occasionally run into Australians visiting the Uk. Sadly flying with two guide dogs on a fourteen hour plane flight would be a bit difficult, plus the prices to fly are insane! so I might have to put off visiting australia, although it is a place I'd like to visit owing to the huge mix of cultures. Also you have a lot of plants and animals and a type of landscape very different to what we have here in Britain. Oh btw, I was quite amused when some Australian colleagues of my mum sent us an Australian christmas card with Santa clause in shorts and a T shirt, since obviously up here we have christmas in the winter with snow a
 nd raindeer and such.

Dark, it seems attitudes towards whether Australian workers have a good work-life balance varies as I have just asked a couple of people and say that "Life's great".Jonixter, I would venture that Australians are more friendly and welcoming than people in the US, but I can't say for sure. Our population is very multicultural.

I know you're slightly against the US, but I think Texas is a good choice for you. The blind community is the second biggest in the entire country, and even though Austin is very vert expensive, the toun that I live in, beaumont has a sucky oublic transpportation system, but nice peioke, good food, and a bitchy school district. The college is very god.

Re: Please help me choose a country!

the problem though again jonicster is different bits of countries and even cities can be radically different as to life and culture. London I am not keen on as a city, but it's got some rather nice parts and probably the best bus service in the Uk if your visually impared, plus the underground system, getting around is easy though prices can be expensive. Nottingham where my parents live is a total hole and a place I don't like, however up here in Durham it's absolutely different, far quieter and a lot more decent. The Us is the same in terms of different areas being like different places, so while there are some cultural trends you also have to balance those against where you want to live.In terms of people who just are interested in work, you'll get that most everywhere since that's how modern culture is, obsessed with money and materialism. Short of going and surviving in a cabin in the woods or something, you'll not find
a way to get away from that. the main thing though is what I said before. You say "I dwant a house" well how are you going to get this house? Also bare in mind houses take a lot of rent and cleaning (I actually like living in a flat). Similarly with people, your best off finding friends via mutual interest than just going "well I need a country with friendlly people" that is not easy wherever you are, but has nothing to do with what country your in.

Re: Please help me choose a country!

If you want to live in a house, you will need at least 100,000 euros to buy one, and I guess 1000 euros per month will be the rent, if you'd like to rent a house. I live in a poor country, Albania, and if I want to buy a house near the centre, for my family, it will cost nearly 65,000 euros to fit my needs.Nowadays, don't expect a capital city to be clear as cristal; it's a lot of activity going on all hours, and people are from different countries of the World, thus the culture is not the same. For example, London is populated by around 13,000,000 people, so how can you expect that place to be like a meadow? It's impossible

Re: Please help me choose a country!

I was in the US and in Germany.I want to move, as in Ukraine, evil people, violated the rights of persons with disabilities. I'm in school for children with sight problems. even the blind can mock me in this school, due to the fact that I do not offend others, etc.I explored the country for a long time. Here are my results:USA:In the US, everything is good, the people are kind. But in the United States for people to work the most important thing in life.Germany:It is believed that Germany was the best country in Europe in relation to people with disabilities. In Germany, most people live in apartments. I want to live in the house. The German language is more difficult than English.United Kingdom:UK - this is not one country.England:In England the situation is similar in the United States. People want to work.In London, a lot of garbage. London is not a clean city.Ireland:About Ireland I kn
ow a little.Australia:Australia is similar to the United States. In Australia, people think more about relaxing and socializing than on the work.Denmark, Norway and Sweden:I did not examine these three countries, as there are people living closed and is very difficult to find friends.

Re: Please help me choose a country!

Sweden, Norway, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium these I would recommend.Britain is a great choice as well, if you can get into.Time is money, Americans say.Even the verb Spend is highly related to time and money, as in spend time doing something, and spend money on something. It's really sad that people are forgetting life in making money, but this is not an isolated case with Americans; Japonese people are doing the same, just that the Japonese culture is a little diffrent. It sounds as there is a gene inside our organism which is responsible for the attitude towards moneymaking.

Re: Please help me choose a country!

I just had that opinion about the work-life balance from what I have heard. I have not had any way to experience it firsthand because I do not have a job. However, I just conducted some research and I found that the opposite is true. Australia actually ranks as one of the worst countries in the world for a good work-life balance. We are far below the US, UK, Russia and many other countries. That being said, Australia is still a great country.

Re: Please help me choose a country!

Hi.Come over to germany. The situation how blind and disabled persons are handeled has been steadily improoved over the last few years, there is a city in germany that is also called city of the blind people.Yeah, that sounds poetic, but it's a normal city where others live to, the situation is the best for blind people there. If you want to go to university, it has special materials in braille or already formatted so you can easily read it on a braille display or with your screen reader. Also, people over their are friendly and you can find friends real quick. When are you migrating to another cuntry, I will be staying at the city for the next 5 years or so.

Re: Please help me choose a country!

As a person who lives in Australia, allow me to clarify that most businesses operate on a mostly 9 to 5 (or 17 in 24-hour time) work schedule. We do see work as an integral part of life, however many businesses are starting to realise the benefits in a good work-life balance. I would say that the attitude to people with disability in Australia is steadily improving, and if you are prepared to work hard, there can be rewards. We do have good support for people with disability, though I am not able to compare that to how the situation is in other countries and what you require. From what I have heard, the United States is not that much better with regard to work, and the employment of people with disability. On your other requirement, most people are extremely friendly and helpful to each other. Perhaps you should write to both the Ukrainian Embassy in the countries that may want to live in, and the major blindness agencies in the country. For example, in Australia, you would write
to:http://australia.mfa.gov.ua/ua and http://www.visionaustralia.org/about-us/contact-us Then you may wish to make a table listing the pros and cons of each country, and from that, you can decide where you want to live. Or maybe you want to become a disability rights activist to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities living in Ukraine.
