Re: What is the most accessible Windows web browser?

and the irony is, I heard a roomer that the early versions of oppra (dating to around the time windows95 was released) was accessible with some screen readers. I can neither confirm nor deny these roomers as my experience was with a newer version.

I did try opra, and it's accebility was horible with jaws. Not sure about NVDA though, but It might not be accessible with that, either.

Re: What is the most accessible Windows web browser?

I don't know about what others are saying, but from my own experiences, using Windows 7 and JAWS. I find Internet Explorer the most accessible with Firefox running a close second.Since I cxant get Chrome to install, I can't rate it compared to the other two and have never tried Opera.

All the products he's referring to are over fifteen years out of date. Not sure why they're even being discussed here since, exclusing Netscape, even in a history of assistive products they're just footnotes.

Re: What is the most accessible Windows web browser?

Just FYI, AdblockPlus has pretty much been superceeded by Ublock Origin; it's faster, much more efficient and intuitive, and is updated regularly. Plus it comes with a lot more filter lists by default that you can enable instead of having to search for them.

Re: What is the most accessible Windows web browser?

Agreed with Wanderer on all points. And you can make Firefox even more accessible/usable with the edition of a few add-ons, such as F123 Access to change the layout of specific problematic webpages, Adblock Plus to get rid of ads and general annoyingness, and Noscript if you're concerned about security issues such as those caused by java and Flash. While the latter two add-ons I just mentioned aren't designed for blind folks, they'll make your life much easier when browsing websites. And don't forget about reader view if you read a lot of articles on cluttered news sites and stuff.

Re: What is the most accessible Windows web browser?

I wouldn't say any of those special browsers are knockoffs, although IBM homepage reader uses Ie, and ks web access was inspired by it.

Re: What is the most accessible Windows web browser?

Browsers made for the blind are pretty much always knockoffs, Chrome and NVDA do not get along as stated in a previous post, and if you're still using something older than XP you've got bigger problems. Internet Explorer is no longer being developed, and is frankly the worst browser in terms of security and compatibility across different platforms, would not recommend using it at all.

Re: What is the most accessible Windows web browser?

depends on the version of windows you have and your screen reader. for really old versions of windows (pre xp/2k) it's Internet explorer. for xp and later it's Firefox for jaws, and chrome for NVDA. and that's not counting the browsers made for the blind: pw webspeak32, IBM homepage reader, ks web acces, web ie, and simply web 2000.

Re: What is the most accessible Windows web browser?

probably firefox. I guess it is also a factor on what screen reader you are using. I can tell ya from personal experience, Chrome and NVDA get along about as well as RAID on a bees nest. It sucks, I like chrome because its fast and stuff, but you get stuck a lot in the tool bar, on the page, you just get stuck and you can't move, tabbing around does nothing, trying to insert plus space to get out of focus mode, etc. I wish chrome would recognize NVDA and do some work on it.
