Re: a game idea that i hope some body could pik up

@CAE_Jones:Good points you make there, thanks for the post. Those are probably some good ideas about spacing, yes. Vertical is the biggest problem as you pointed out. So maybe an audio brawler has to drop that dimension all together? Pitch might also work but for me is not a very attractive solution. I find it not very helpful at times and extremely immersion breaking. Not sure however how intuitive that sound signposting would be. You would also need to work out a pretty solid sound design that is informative but not overwhelming. And about winning matches with button mashing... Is that even desirable? What is the point in bashing your controller to your head till you hear the announcement "You win!"? Sure, you can beat the shit out of every casual gamer if you learn to mash. But that is also again no real game. Games follow rules, this is just chaos. The commercial brawlers all facilitate this playstyle for sure, they want to reach as many potential buyers as possible. But they also enable the skillful approach. You can reach quite the mastery in positioning, comboing, reacting and dodging in them. In most cases you can outplay a button masher with some practice. And that's the point I want to make: Making a game where you can button-mash your way through might satisfy a few people. But fighting games are pretty much always about practicing and mastery of combat. They in some way reflect the real life experience you might have with martial arts. Everyone can punch and whoever punches first will probably also win a typical bar brawl. But it is not about that. It's all about skill and control. So making an audio brawler where that is possible is the challenge. I repeat that I believe it to be possible. But it is hard and we will need to have new game mechanics for it. What we have at the moment is definitely not enough. You kindled the discussion about possible solutions and I appreciate that.

Re: a game idea that i hope some body could pik up

So what; the attacks to be also in stereo, so you can hear the fist or weapon move to its maximum reach? ... That sounds kinda cool, I guess. I could do something like that with ECTAS, even, by just having the unvoiced part of attacks play in the hitbox rather than the character's position. Projectiles already do that, after all.Vertical is still tricky. You'd practically have to dedicate sounds to certain heights / positions, because spacial audio for melee-scale vertical is woefully unreliable for something like this. Pitch, maybe, but who (else) wants to do that?Oh, yeah. ECTAS is fighting game-style combat. Though apparently I was supposed to do dial-a-combo buffers because dial-a-combo won. Has a Vs mode, but the camera is kinda annoying if you want to try PvP to practice, because it doesn't prevent players from getting too far apart to track.I'm not really sure the intricacies of fighting game mechanics matter quite as much as we like to think. Why? Because blind players can kick most of the ass at mainstream fighters, in spite of lacking the information under discussion. Clearly, pixel-perfect judgment of range and distance is irrelevant unless you're to the point that you're trying to break records or something. I say this, having put way too much thought into intricate fighting systems and content over the years, only to realize that the fine details usually just get button-mashed or QTE'd or blatant tutorial highlighted away. Frame-perfect timing can be relevant ... but then games start adding frames of delay intentionally, online has to compensate, and things get weird, so even then...Basically, I don't see what the problem is. I never had perfect vision, but I could see MK2 and 3 well enough, and the PS1 capcom fighters (MK4 and Tekken, though, I got better at after losing that vision, because I was distracted by how impossible to make sense of they were). I feel like good sound design can handle most of the information I can no longer get visually. Am I missing something?Hmm, maybe I am missing something. Which is to say, a worthy opponent when I could see what I was doing somewhat. Maybe I just know way too little about how high-skill sighted players play fighters.

Re: a game idea that i hope some body could pik up

@21, 22 and 23:You all don't get my point. My problem is not if but how it should get made. Even with the accessibility features from MK it only takes care of one problem: the spacing. And not even with that properly. Because different attacks have different reach. How would you account for that? You don't have a sliver of the control over the game any sighted player has. And that's where my problem lies. You can for sure whip together a simple button mashing hell with some super simple spacing mechanics. But that would not be a proper brawler and for sure no game with any semblance of long term playability, skill ceiling or possible fighting tactics. That is what makes a proper brawler. Not flashy characters, loud screaming and a contest who can push the buttons the fastest. An assortment of working code is not necessarily a game! Making a brawler for the visually impaired would be super possible but would need a dedicated out-of-the-box thinker or two.And no, MK is no proper fighting game vor blind people. You can run it but you can't play it. It's like rolling the dice in a game of monopoly but not knowing where your figure is going. Might even be fun depending on the people you're playing with but it is a crutch at most.

Re: a game idea that i hope some body could pik up

probably we don't need a full new mekanics sistem, we need something simple. look at mortal kombat. i have it on nintento switch and i manage to totally aniylate my friends, my main idea is, we don't need crazy accessibility stuf for a fighter. it's 2d, right? that brings us to the first step1. being 2d, it's a pretty easy whay of making it accessible, stereo field.2. simply having the point of view fixed to your caracter would help you out. in m k, the point was on the field, when your sounds panned to the right or left you were miles awhay, when you were in the centre, you could bash your opponent. now, what i wanted to say is, sometimes we think... gosh, how should we do it so that it can be played?some times indeed it has to be complicated, but other times, like in a 2d fighter, it's as simple as it could be. pure playing with the stereo field. now i know there's much much more behind all of that, but if you do take a close look to the thing, we've been able to play games that didn't even have a stereo field, take a look at the mk series. before mk 6 or 7 we could still play those.lets not talk about quick time events, what you should do? just add an audio queue toat might say the button you have to press... there you go on how you could pull it off.some times we think on very intricate accessibility, when the slightest thing would make a game playable.again referring to mk. it had allmost any menu accessible. the main menu is basically voiced, when you select a field or caracter it tells you what you've selected, so...sorry for the overdose of mortal kmobat, but that's what i'm in to at the moment.hope that somebody finds my words somewhat usefull...

Re: a game idea that i hope some body could pik up

There has to be a reason why we lack any good brawler audio games. There are discrete genres that really don't work well in an audio medium. The combat system of brawlers as we know is way to intricate and fast paced to translate it into audio. Or is it?At least with the commonly used game mechanics I don't see any way to have a reasonably complex real time fighting system that has to be in place in order to make brawlers engaging over a longer time. How would you design an interesting block/dodge system if you only have audible queues to act upon? How would you design any kind of meaningful combo system? How would you manage the tight spacing mechanics that facilitate strategic play in visual brawlers? This questions could probably go on for a while, I have played my fair share of Tekken in my days but am in no way a brawler expert. So there are probably more intricacies that make a brawler fun. This are real and honest questions though. I believe that somebody could actually pull that off with some creative thinking. But they would have to re-invent a whole new genre and a whole set of completely new game mechanics. This kind of endeavor is nothing for a whim and would need a dedicated and talented person that knows their way around code and game design.I just want to make this crystal clear: Games don't just need to be coded. They also actually need to be fun. Making a game work is easy, making it fun is a whole new story.

at 2.the story for bakugan on psp is decently playable, as long as you have a little bit of sight. enough to see moving stuf, since the story works in the following whay.fight, move to the next opponent avoiding the red cameras and stuf, fight and so on.at the post that sayd about legal sounds and stuf...i was thinking in the recent days, instead of  looking for more stuf and more sounds, we could ask for help to the various devs in the comunity. i'm pretty sure that if the devs them selves would appear in the games with different versions, like skinns... to say egg hunter liam? surviver sam? devil aaron? rambdom devs and caracters that would probably make some kind of story in the game it slef, like super smash bros... this could be super smash audio?ok lett my fantasy stop before i rampage too much and i start dreaming aboud a full 3d accessible beat them up style game with multiple enemies to fight, bullets to dodge, a full online sistem for pvp combat that supports team fights... ok stop! dennybuster, stop!

Re: a game idea that i hope some body could pik up

@JayJay, using ZA source would just force somebody to recode things from scratch.Map system? Yeh, no, not really. Looking at the code, it's literally spawn_platform, spawn_platform, spawn_platform... there is no proper parsing / syntax or anything, and the entire map is one giant dictionary of "2, 5": dirt.Enemy System? If you consider it being good, then you are in for a rude awakening. The enemies in that game only differ in their running speed, health, and damage. They have no strategy behind them, they are always on the ground, and they have no more intelligence than "if player is to the left, I move left. If player is to the right, I move right. If player is in range of my attacks, I attack them". We already have Shooter (Python version) which illustrates that behavior, I don't want another game like that.Level System? Even more of a no. From memory, the level ends when you open doors. This means that every stage will have to have a door in it. Also, the entire level selection is one giant "if choice == this, then that" branch, which is more pain to adapt than to rewrite. So, combined with the general messiness of the code, ZA should not be touched in order to make something like this.

Yeah. but I just nevr got to doing it because of a lack of knowledge, sounds, motivation, time, or a combo of the above. Still though, I'd love to see someone pull this off even with the zombie arena source code. The hardest thing would be to make the attacks, and ifferent characters. But other than that you have  the map system, teh enemy system, which you can modify to create more interesting enemy types, the level system, and you even have the training mode IE, the  free mode thingy. Would love too see this done. and IMO its an achievble goal, the only problem being good legal sound design
