Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system I decided to get an Olympus LS-14, which is currently been shipped.About the core-sound-system: My father suggested another solution; Building a binaural sound system ourselves. The only thing you need to build it up is a cheap pair of headsets and two small, high quality mics which are priced at about 35 cents. You now open the headsets and replace the speakers and all that stuff in there with those mics, after drilling a small hole into the headsets where the mics fit in. This purpose is actually for in-ear-recordings, however you can also clip the headsets somewhere, after optionally placing a clip near the headset. This is a rather cheap solution and you should be experienced with all that electrical stuff, but it is worth the outcome, at least you can try this method before buying a professional but expensive sound system. And, this is most important, I do not have to wait till Christmas! Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system Check out the reviews that I posted on post 16.Not much, but for example the LS100 has 2 XLR inputs and multitrack recording. The LS 14 is smaller, no xlr inputs and allows one to overdub. All units have a mini eighth inch stereo mic input jack, so will work with the binaural mics.Go to the Olympus website and you can read everything about them.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=177634#p177634 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system
Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system Yeah, mine are actually specifically in-ear mics. They fit in your ears kind of weirdly. There's a little ... well, it looks like a rubber clip but that isn't what it is, just above the ear-bud looking part. You lay the microphone at the entrance to your ear canal, and then the rubber clip part tucks into the folds just above your ear canal to hold it in place. They come with windscreens that make them a lot bigger, this is actually the only way I know of to get them to stay in your ears. As for impairing hearing, just a little bit, and mostly because of the windscreens. I can still navigate just fine with them in, and hear everything that's going on around me. They're made specifically not to hamper hearing, so that you can still hear whatever you're recording. They are a little touchy though with loud recordings. For example, I had the olympus set to quick mode, which means it tries to auto-gain for you, when I was recording my baptism ceremony. Most of it picked up well, but tue music was loud enough that it distorted a bit. So for some recordings it's probably best to set the gain yourself, but that might apply to the built in microphones or any other microphones you're using. Not sure if it was these specific microphones or not, since I'm not any kind of a sound engineer.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=177469#p177469 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system
Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system I use the Olympus LS-14, and a set of Sound Professionals Low Noise, Standard Sensativity in-ear microphones to do most of my recording. You can just plug them into the microphone jack on the olympus and have instant binaural recording capability. It's an expensive setup but works well if you can afford it. The only problem I've noticed with my microphones is that for some reason, everything I record it centered slightly off to the left. I haven't been able to figure out how to fix that yet, and I've heard it as a common complaint for in-ear microphones. Some people prefer clip-on collar mics or mics that mount on a pair of glasses for this reason, but I don't think the recordings sound as authentically binaural without actually using your ears.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=177182#p177182 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system
Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system Stereo recording is when you have a left and right mic facing forward or in whatever direction. Panning those stereo mics will only give you a wider stereo image. Binaural means that the mics are acting like your ears would. Ears don't listen forward, they listen pointing diagonally forward out the sides of your head. This recording technique is superior to stereo because when you listen back to it wearing headphones, you hear almost exactly what your ears did when they originally heard what you recorded. Also keep in mind that your head deflects and reflects sound which will effect how your recording sounds. That's why its hard to binaurally record without a head real or fake. Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system
Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system If I get it right, the mic has to be positioned near your ears and sould act like ears. If you have a mixer with a few mic channels and two mics minimum, you can have a mic to the left of yours, aligned to the left, and a second mic to the right of yours, aligned to the right. You now have to adjust the ballance of the left mic to the far left, and the other one to the far right. If I could carry my set of mics around, this may be something binaural related. However I'm not quite sure of that.I gotta watch this video you mentioned, cuz right now I cannot see any difference between having two mics clipped to the left/right of you at a t-shirt which would eventually record stereo and this binaural thingy.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=176902#p176902 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system
Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system You know, I've been looking for a similar system, but there's none to be found in Canada and I don't want to pay huge duties to import it from the US. There's a big difference between stereo and binaural recording. The Olympus DM and LS series will record in stereo and some models also have voice guidance features allowing us VI folks to use them without sighted assistance. However, you'd have to either hold the recorder in your hand (and not move even a finger while recording), or hook up external mics in order to get a decent quality recording. True binaural will either make use of an artificial head with mics where the ears would be, or use your head with specialized mics in your ears. An artificial head goes for thousands, but I believe ZSounds in the US has a few decent ear mounted binaural mic sets you could hook into a pocket recorder. Google "binaural haircut youtube" and watch that video while wearing headphones and you'll see exact ly binaural is different from your typical stereo recording. Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system
Re: Searching for a portable binaural recording system Well, a temporary solution would be getting an external mic to some kinda plug into the device which you will carry in your pocket, and the cable of the microphone should be hidden under your t-shirt to not cause get stuck somewhere and screw the mic.@Simba,I think you are referring to the PDaudio stuff of Patric Perdoe, don't you? These mics might be already out-fashioned, due to newer technology, but it would be great if we know which kind of mics he used.I mean, you cannot clip an external mic into somewhere without risk screwing the cables, this must be some kind of a bluetooth thingy or another kind of wireless connection from the mic itself to the actual recorder.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=176793#p176793 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
