Re: Spotify and playlist management

Guess the spotify app uses something like ajax to bring that all up.  Glad you found a way around it.  I've pretty much given up on blindspot, the dev hasn't updated  in months.

Re: Spotify and playlist management

Ok, so I've actually found a solution which is a bit of a pain in the ass, but it's better than going through the agony of adding a hundred or more songs via my phone.I should point out that I never would have known about this if not for the NVDA email list. Funnily enough, I had not checked my email in several weeks, and while wading through the insane amount of messages that had accumulated there, I happened to stumble across someone who had more or less the same question. Call it fate or what have you, but I followed the discussion with interest. It turns out that using object nav also allows you to add songs to playlists. When you search for a song, you can scroll down to where the results are, then left click on the song's title. An unlabelled button appears above the track name once you've done this. It's a play button. i don't know if it's strictly necessary to click on this button once you've found it, but I've had
good results doing that. Besides, I prefer to check the quality, and make sure that it's the version of said song that I want before adding it anyway, so it can't hurt. Now, once the song begins playing, and you're sure it's the one you want, go to the title of the song once more, and right click it. You then have to do control end to get down to the bottom of the page. Scroll up a bit until you see a clickable object that says add to playlist. This also needs to be left clicked on. Then you can scroll down a few more lines until you see the name of the playlist you'd like to add the track to. Again, left click on this. Voila, you've now got your tracks added. Is that excessively complex? Hell yes, it is. I wish it were easier. But it's the best we've got for now, assuming you're lazy and impatient like me, and don't particularly relish the thought of taking twice as long to enter the same info into your smartphone. It would be
sweet if an NVDA add-on were created to make the Spotify client less cumbersome. As an aside, I tried these same steps with the latest version of JAWS 18; no go. I seem to remember there being a specialized, though paid, set of scripts that one could purchase in order to make Spotify more accessible with JAWS, although I don't know much about them and don't know how well they work. So keep in mind that, as far as I know, working with NVDA is the best way of interacting with Spotify's PC client at this point. In fact, I'm highly considering doing an audio demo of this for my podcast in the near future, for those who prefer to hear things being demonstrated as opposed to textual information.

Re: Spotify and playlist management

Well, you can access them... you just can't change them. With NVDA if you use object nav, you can manually click on the playlist you want to open. It does work. But yeah, not being able to add new tracks or change preferences is annoying. I'm a premium member, I want my higher quality audio, dang it!

Re: Spotify and playlist management

Yeah, you're right. I noticed that there are a lot less unlabelled buttons now that NVDA has been updated. As for clicking on the playlists, I haven't found a way to do this with NVDA. JAWS actually handles this decently. Out of desperation, I did a test with it earlier, to see if it would read stuff that NVDA didn't catch. it allows you to at least press enter on the name of your playlist, and it opens as expected. Both screen readers work well when it comes to playing, pausing, skipping, and otherwise interacting with tracks. Searching is also pretty easy to do with both JAWS and NVDA. But there's still no way to add a track to an existing playlist. I also can't access the preferences with either screen reader, which I find unacceptable.

Re: Spotify and playlist management

I have the same question... spotify is actually relatively accessible with NVDA now as of the most recent update, but I haven't tried making a playlist from the ground up... I also have a hard time with clicking and activating objects, specifically checkboes and playlist titles, which NVDA reads as a clickable icon. Does anyone have any clues about that?

Spotify and playlist management

Spotify and playlist management

Hi all,While I'm going to be asking questions about a specific program in this topic, I'm also looking for general tips about working with playlists in Spotify, thus the topic title.I'm using a program called Blindspot, which is, for those who don't know, an open source program that makes certain functions of Spotify a lot more user friendly to work with in Windows. It works great for playing and searching for tracks, but I'm running into a problem. I can't add any songs to playlists. When I do, the program seems to recognize that the tracks are there, but, when I then go into the Spotify app on my IPhone, the playlist that I wanted to start building is empty, just as it was when I created it on the phone. I can't tell if the tracks have been populated in the main Windows Spotify client or not; it's accessibility is barely passable in my opinion, to say nothing of the fact that I can't find any way to add tracks to a
playlist in there either. the only thing I found is that you can add a track to your list of songs, but I don't want to do that.I can add tracks to a playlist just fine on my phone, and, while that's a workable solution, especially if I just want to quickly add a track or two here and there, it's tedious at best to type all the artist names and tracks that I want to add when I'm getting a playlist off the ground, as I wanted to do today. it takes forever, since I can type much faster on a physical keyboard. No, I don't have a bluetooth keyboard either, or this would be a non issue.Anyway, my questions are these. Does anyone have any experience with Blindspot, and could shed some light on what the problem is with the playlist adding feature? if it's a bug, since I see it hasn't been updated since 2014, is there an alternative way that I can add songs to a playlist using Windows? or is it that I need to change a setting somewhere that a
llows playlists to be synced across devices? I looked in the app on my phone and didn't see anything. I also tried bringing up preferences in the main Spotify application on Windows, but I couldn't even get them to display. I'm using the latest version of NVDA. Any help with this would be much appreciated.
