Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

Hi i know this has been said already, but with regards to the public records, you guys should add the link to the post/topic in question so we can look at it, and it will even set president for future reference. Maybe you could have a reference topic so we can check materials of offenders, so we can set standards in future cases.Just some food for thought.

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

My only and one suggestion would be to keep it up to date. They keep posting to it like they warned someone, but they never update the first post.

@2, they post subsequent posts; updating the first post isn't really necessary IMO.

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

I'd agree, but the headings are like current punishments, current warnings and such. If there wasn't the word current in it, and for example if I got a warning, I'd freely say if it's not in the current ones then my warning doesn't exist. Even if it has been posted in the 200th post. After a while nobody will look for them cause the topic will look messy.

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

If it's been posted, and there's a date stamp, then I daresay it exists. It's not nearly that hard to look up.I agree that there's a continuity issue between the first post and subsequent posts, however.

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

@Jade, 2 things:1. I'm just saying it might be easier to provide a link so we could visit the specific topic. Many times i would like to see what the person posted about, but i don't know what topic/post its located @.2. I am not 100% sure how to search.

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

I mean, until it gets to like a thousand posts, it's fine. And anyway, mods can eddit other's posts, so they can just eddit Aaron's and add they're thing and link to the post it's on and boom!

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

Hi,I think, because the Topic is still rather small, it isn't really a Problem. But once it gets bigger (like many pages) the punishments Need to be in the first post.@6: This is also why I suggested this, along with the transparency Thing. The reason I think it would be more transparent with links is that everyone knows which post the user was being punished for and what the contents of the post are.

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

The only mod who has provided links and almost always updated the first post was carter. And i'm not meaning to throw the other mods under the bus, or say that they're failing, or not doing what they should. Just pointing out that fact. And yeah, that's not really a problem until we get like at least 100 posts, but it would probably be good to get the mods and or admins in to that habbit.

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

Erin wrote:"Just a quick update before posts begin proper here, when a staff member creates a post detailing a punishment, they should definitely link to the topic in question where the punishment was originally given, to allow forumights to find more details and view the punishments in context."So you guys should start back doing that.

Re: Suggestion about the disciplinary records.

There is an alternative argument to be made here. The search feature does exist, and it's possible to view someone's post history or topic history on your own. In other words, it is possible for you to do the legwork. Now, I'm not saying that that should be your responsibility. I actually don't care too much either way. But my argument goes like this. The proof is already there. The posts, punishments and whatnot speak for themselves. Linking is fine and all, but not doing so means the only people who are going to actually look into it are people who are honestly interested. The info is still there, you just have to work for it a little bit. Given that we have seen people objecting to punishments and actions of the staff team seemingly without trying to read for context or otherwise apprise themselves of the situation, giving a direct link to a post seems counterproductive, in that light at least; it encourages people to read the supposedly offensive post and go "Oh whoa holy crap the mods are at it again", without reading everything else that might surround the action and might help explain our decisions.I can see good reasons for linking to an offending post. I'm just saying that I can also see one really good reason not to. The last six to eight months has seen a sharp rise in two things simultaneously, staff transparency and staff criticism; thankfully, the latter seems to be on the downswing lately, and I'm grateful for that. That is no accident. Providing links is even more transparency which, if recent trends are to be trusted, may simply feed the flames by providing a direct access point to exactly what you folks want without encouraging further reading. Mentioning a person's actions and giving a time/day it happened, on the other hand, makes you work for it, and increases the chance that you can't just read what you want to read, and think what you want to think as a consequence.Again, I'm not saying I won't ever link, and I'm not saying that to want this is wrong. it's absolutely not wrong, and I understand why some of you want it. I'm merely providing an argument as to why it's maybe not as universally awesome as it looks.
