Re: TV and the blind

To clarify wit the LG television, just wait for about 30 seconds or so when you first power it on.It will start talking aotmagically. (At least, modern ones do.) You can thank an LG rep I talked to for that info.

Re: TV and the blind

Just go for any of the Android TV, they do come very cheap and get the things done that you've mentioned.Or as others point out, go for an expensive TV, they may or may not come with Android, but still have most of important features and amazing picture quality.

Re: TV and the blind

Interesting, guys. I just need a new, recent smart tv that I want to replace my old regular tv, that has Android OS integrated and has the ability to change synths and eazy to use. My family has a smart tv, but since I'm so addicted to technology I need a smart tv to experience what I was hearing on the previous tv and that I can also conect it to my computer and act like a monitor! I mean how can a person see what I'm writing and proposing what I be dooing?

Re: TV and the blind

Hi,We bought ourselves a Samsung TV, and it's amazing. If anything, the screen reader talks a little too much (I miss my control key for shutting it up).Other than that, the only thing you have to be careful of are the occasional app not being accessible. The only one that springs to mind is the Spotify app.Not sure about changing synths. We're stuck with whatever Samsung's synth is, and it OK, except that when typing, certain letters are silent (think it's E). You get used to it though, and honestly I don't notice the problems. With ours, we completely ignore the smart remote, and use the old fashioned one. There is a dedicated accessibility button. When you press that, the menu speaks straight away, and there's options for turning stuff on and off, but not usually to configure. The settings app has all the changing stuff in it. We've got the screen reader set to the fastest, and its still slow enough that my wife - who hardly uses speech - can still understand it fine. It's got dedicated buttons for Netflix, Amazon prime TV, and some others that I can't remember, HDMI ARC - or whatever the output you need for  aSonos soundbar is called, and a USB slot where you can bang a memory stick, either for playing stuff off it, or for recording terrestrial TV channels, so you can pause them, then skp through the adverts later haha.If you're particularly interested in the model we've got (I personally hate digging into new stuff, and would rather just go for a model I know someone else recommends), I can ask Claire for the link for you as it was she who found it.It's 42", pretty damn thin, has WIFI 2.4 GHZ support (which I think is pretty standard), and all the stuff I wrote about above.According to my Dad, it's got damn good picture. According to everyone, with the Sonos Beam and sub, it's got damn good audio too!

Re: TV and the blind

If you are talking about typing with the remote that comes with the TV, then I would like to assure you, that it sucks. What doesn't suck is voice controle and voice typing and having a keyboard connected to your TV and using it whenever you want to type. It can be a bluetooth keyboard.Trust me, for the most of the time, voice input will suffice your typing needs.

Re: TV and the blind

any Roku powered OS tv will work. also Samsung, LG, amazon fire OS, and Android, should all have sccreen readers. from their you will want to look at what features the sets have and choose what you think you are going to be using it for. The price is another thing you may want to look at. i have a Sharp Roku powered tv and it has three HTMI inputs and the screen size is 42 inches.
