Re: The Appointment Of Mods

lol I would be happy to make staff pitches verbally if I had to.The hybrid idea is neat. So it wouldn't be a vote, per se, but sort of "if you have a serious problem, speak now or forever hold your peace" sort of deal. I like that.

Re: The Appointment Of Mods

I would love to see a hybrid system.example.the admins discuss amongst themselves and go. Who do we think would do a good job. They nominate Franky. Then they post a topic on the boards.Hey everyone. We would like to bring Franky on board. How do you feel? Now Franky might have one or two people that don't like him, but the concensus goes. Heck yeah. Franky's got a level head and knows how to defuse arguments, then he might be a good choice. But just selecting and then putting someone in an admin position only further hurts the perception the community has of it's mods.

Re: The Appointment Of Mods

I must respectfully disagree with posts 2 and 4, and here's why. when looking for admins, people more often than not, try to get in their friends through the backdoor method. either that, or someone that they know. at any rate, it's almost never a total outsider, unless, as I've said, they have connections. then, if we don't like the choice of admins, and we try to raise concerns, they then try to please us. if we vote, and we don't like the outcome, the only person to blame is ourselves. PS. I've seen the backdoor method too much myself.

Re: The Appointment Of Mods

I lobbied so hard for a voting system, when I was moderator on another forum.I thought that a democratic vote would work on a forum just like it works in a country.I am against it now, and I'll explain why. While we would like to think that voting would be done in the best interest of the community, it can often take on a very cliquish vibe when many of the members of a community know one another, or feel that they do.Another result is that if a mod needed to be appointed and there was some tense and stressful situation like the one we just had, it's possible that members could begin pressuring others to vote a certain way.If the community wants to vote democratically, I have no problem with that. But I did want to raise these points, because I've seen it from both sides, and lobbied hard for the other side at one time.

The Appointment Of Mods

Hi guysMy apologies for another topic or if this has been previously discussed.I was just wondering what the current process of appointing mods was and who is accountable for doing so? Furthermore, who are the current mods and how/when/why were they appointed? Also just throwing an idea out there, should the forum members elect mods via a public vote rather than it being a more internal process? On a public free forum it does seam a little odd (and un-democratic) to me that mods aren't chosen by the members. This would give the members of the forum a lot more say on how they believe it should be run, as well as make the mods a lot more accountable for there actions. It wouldn't be a tough thing to do, open a simple poll for a set time and done.Really interested to see your responses.
