For one, near by explorer has turn by turn navigation, and doesn't need an internet connection, which is why I got it on my BrailleSense Polaris, because it doesn't have cellular ability, so using it with a phone as a hotspot defeats the purpose of having a ghps app on there, and is laggy, because maps doesn't use your GPS chip when you're on wi-fi. So, Nearby explorer is better than blindsquare. Re: There's a new free app for IOS from Microsoft. I think that it needs a lot of work to replace other apps. It comes nowhere near Near By Explorer or even Blind Square. Could it? Maybe but I don't think that is the point of this app. I think this is a lighter GPS app for those that either know the area well or want to use it alongside other GPS apps.
