For all any of us knows, when you first launch the console it would say "press this option to turn on screen reader", and then you can set up the console and use all the screens without sighted help. Re: Watch Dogs: Legion might be accessible I’m low vision and decided to take a chance on the game. Could not make my way out of the prologue mission, unfortunately. But that’s all right. One thing I found to be kind of strange was that the menu narration voices sounded English or Irish to me. Both male and female voice sounded very poor quality and with constant popping in the background. I got the digital standard version for my standard PS4. It was also funny how when increasing the rate of speech, it also increases the pitch making the voice sound like a chipmunk. Hopefully I can get one of my nephews to play the prologue mission and maybe I’ll have some measure of success monce there are graphical Objective location indicators and maps. Don’t think that stuff is in the prologue mission but maybe I didn’t see it... I doubt I’ll have any luck with the game though. But I knew that was most likely going to be the case going in. Also, TLU2 had been developed from 3 years ago, and only got accessible cause someone said they would love to play it and a dev was at said conference, so it took 3 years for accessibility in that game. Ubisoft develops a lot of games yearly, or every 2 years, so the next game in the series will always improve things. Also, 1 year ago when the devision 2 came out, only certain menus like the title screens and settings screens were narrated, and now with watchdogs, and I am guessing probably assassins creed valhalla, pretty much everything will be narrated? I know for example, in immortals phoenix rising that the map is fully narrated. So we will have to see in valhalla. This kind of stuff all takes time, companies work on tight schedules to meet deadlines, you've heard it all before. Look, I honestly do share the frustration as I'm sure many of us do, but continuously complaining about these things and coming off as overly self-entitled (SPAY) helps absolutely no one. I'm all for promoting healthy discussion on these things, but seriously could some of you step back and actually think about what you're posting before you do it?I'm personally not picking up the game, but I seriously do commend the efforts that have been taken here and in games like Valhalla, which is something I'm looking forward to immensely because I love that whole Viking era. I definitely understand the frustration for anyone who went out and brought the game, but that was a risk without first hearing from anyone exactly how much could and couldn’t be played. Regarding adding menu narration, my little brother has the same eye condition as myself but has managed to retain some useable sight, unlike myself he has enough site to see and play some main stream games if very close to the screen, however he does struggle to read text on screen , so something like spoken menus is hugely helpful to him and others like him. Again, don’t get me wrong I would have loved this game to be fully playable and to have been able to play it myself, but lets not take it out on the company, they are definitely moving in the right direction and even though its not playable by the blind , with the exception of naughty dog and the Last of us part 2 it is more than other developers are doing. The fact they are thinking about accessibility for the blind and low vision is definitely a move in the right direction, hopefully other developers follow suit and we begin to see more blind accessibility features being added to main stream games. As much as I understand the reasoning, it doesn't make sense to make the top layer of a game accessible and leave out the rest. To most people who aren't in the business, including myself when I'm not in a good mood, it's stupid. That would be like going to a burger joint and having the kitchen staff give you the bun and tell you that because the other ingredients aren't ready yet, you can have this in the meantime and next time you come back we might have the patty ready. But I do get these things take time, which is why I never buy into the excitement when someone says a game has narrated menus. That's great for people with print disabilities, which might be a better angle to look at it from. But while I can understand that, I won't pretend the more impatient side of me doesn't get a little annoyed when the accesibility stops there. But in a day and age where updates happen, there may be more, or may not. But this is at least a lesson hopefully learned that just because something has bits that are accessible doesn't mean the whole thing is, and optomism at least right now should only be cautious unless we're told otherwise. TLU 2 was a great example of a fully completeable game, but they had that as a goal from the beginning. And ubisoft simply may not be there yet, if they want to take a more measured approach. Do I personally wish it would go faster? Yes, because if a game like 13 Sentinels which is from a team who likely doesn't know much about accessibility turned ut the way it did, people aware should be able to do more. But that just isn't the way things are. We just have to be wiling to stay in it for thelong hall until accessiblity stops becoming a novelty and is the norm, though that'll probably take longer than many of us like. As much as I understand the reasoning, it doesn't make sense to make the top layer of a game accessible and leave out the rest. To most people who aren't in the business, including myself when I'm not in a good mood, it's stupid. But I do get these things take time, which is why I never buy into the excitement when someone says a game has narrated menus. That's great for people with print disabilities, which might be a better angle to look at it from. But while I can understand that, I won't pretend the more impatient side of me doesn't get a little annoyed when the accesibility stops there. But in a day and age where updates happen, there may be more, or may not. But this is at least a lesson hopefully learned that just because something has bits that are accessible doesn't mean the whole thing is, and optomism at least right now should only be cautious unless we're told otherwise. We don't need a TLU2 style beacon going off every like 3 seconds, or make it be pressing in the left stick or something, basically something that tells us we are going the right way. For hacks, the narator doesn't read out those, so no idea what does what when we hack stuff. But yeah, fighting people is pretty easy. Just wish I could get past the prologue... Your character stops moving when they hit a wall, so yeah that is good. I would like the games to be available in all languages, I think the plot, the text will be translated into my native language, but there is no such confidence about the availability. It is very strange. I will be grateful if you write to them about it. I just know that in the gear of tactics there is the availability of a speaker, but there is no way to use the availability of the menu in Russian. For refernce: Take 2 have had a history of being ultra aggressive with regards to things they don't like (leakers, modders and so forth) and effectively nuked two people off the internet, one by lawsuit for a RDR1 mod, the other a BL3 leaker who got deplatformed of of Youtube and had, frankly, very shady things done to them by Take 2. Read up on that whole debacle. Companies take this very, very seriously and protect their investments like they are their adored kids. Re: Watch Dogs: Legion might be accessible HI, Like others have said I’m dubious as to whether this will be fully accessible, but then again I was also fairly dubious that the last of us part 2 would be fully accessible, which it was (although not having a PS4 I haven’t had a chance to try that one yet). Liam makes a good point about the fact it could be something related to signing of an NDA which has prevented testers/people involved with the project speaking about it, as the fact there are quite a few accessibility features for visually impaired users in there you would have to think that they’ve had some blind testers working with them, yet we haven’t heard anything from anyone on the forum that I’ve seen other than this post and you’d think if people were testing or knew about the features they would have posted something here if they could. Also I don’t know how active Brandon and Ian are on the forum, but they also haven’t posted here to say they haven’t been testing the game or that it isn’t fully accessible. So although it probably won’t be, I’m going to hold out a small glimmer of hope just in case, as it would be excellent to see more main stream games add this kind of accessibility, especially after seeing what naughty dog did with the last of us, also all the accessibility features Liam manage to add to Grand theft auto, which I still haven’t gotten round to trying yet , need to find some time for that as have been looking forward to that for a while.
